Take a look at KVD casting a crank bait. The guy reels it in fast and as soon as it's in he casts it out again wasting no time. I can't believe how fast he is going. What's he actually doing though, covering as much water as possible by going so fast? Is that the main reason he's reeling and casting so fast? He's like a robot, cast after cast. Cool footage.
Gotta love that watch.............
Gotta love him getting mad that the scale took so long to weigh that fish...interested in what gear ratio he is using.
Just learned so much from watching kvd's hands.
Wow. Fast. Yes I wonder the ratio as well.
Remember reading a while back that KVD is adamant about using a 5:x gear ratio reel for his squarebills as well as when fishing deep diving crankbaits.
I dont think he is reeling that fast... Maybe a slow gear ratio. I fish square bills that fast alot if thats what the fish want.
That's a TourMG so it's either a 7:1 or 6.3:1. I'm betting 6.3. He has always stated he fishes fast. He switches up to 5:1 in the spring so even if he is winding fast, he's still slowing himself down.
Time is money to a tournament angler.
So imagine KVD trying to sell a reel on the Flea Market Forum.
"Yeah, not been used much. Only took it out on one outing and didn't like the feel of it."
So it only has 20,000 casts on it? lol
I always hear people learning to cast left handed because its faster and you dont have to switch hands. LOL KVD and I often switch hands before the lure even touches down .Cant get any faster than that .

Don't be silly. No one on here would buy it because its a quantum with a flipping switch.

And it would sell for 10x the MRSP just for the simple fact that his hands had touched it.
Sounds like someone did some super tuning to that reel!
Very instructive.
I noticed a lot of his faster reeling was just getting the bait back to the boat after it leaves the strike zone so he can cast it again.
At 7:00 minutes when he rips it out off something is his drag set really loose and he uses his thumb for drag?
I think it is kind of funny that everyone is making a huge deal out of a video of a guy who is reeling in a crank bait at a quicker pace. I mean if it was some joe shmoe made the same exact video it would be nothing but to watch a pro reel a bait in just doesn't give me goosebumps, sorry.....

He had a professional over run ( small back lash ). He even takes the fish off fast, it's like he is on speed. I think I fish fast but if I had to move like that when I go out, I wouldnt enjoy the sport as much. Big KVD fan though..... I mean I am not getting goosebumps but I would rather watch him not catch much than some no name. LOL

No goosebumbs here, either. But, I (reluctantly?) acknowledge that KVD is a better fisherman than I am. I'd say there's a pretty good chance that I might learn something by virtually spending 20 minutes in the boat with him.

there is no doubt he has accomplished more as a fisherman than I have it is just funny how these threads are. I guess they should go hand in hand with can i get a sponsor thread as this is how....

At 7:00 he is reeling in no backlash. He jerks it hard and you can hear the drag going off but it looks like he stops it with his thumb. You can some what hear his thumb on the line.

Summer sexy shad. I thought it was a 1.0 but he said on the episode it was a 1.5
There's a lot more to the video than a guy reeling faster than everyone else.
The drag is set really loose for one reason and nobody spotted it. Take a look at the rod he is using, it is an EXP PT rod, they are all extra fast actions. So what you see is how he is compensating for the stiffness of the rod but it makes me wonder why he was using that rod for a square bill, oh well, no use trying to figure out what they do because I use what works for me.
That's pretty much what cranking looks like on my boat. Didn't think it was unusual at all, but I grew up cranking.

He was ripping his crank out of grass. I have my drag pretty loose too on cranks, drags are more consistent at lower pressures but won't let the fish peel off like a tuna.
Rumor has it KVD can afford to pay a lot of guys to pre fish for him...so I have been told by some local's.....he pays the most so I guess you can be confident burning baits when your intel is on point.
It looked like he uses his thumb instead of his reel to give his bait little pauses or jumps but was hard to tell...He was obviously just looking for numbers in the part I watched, but I thought he was using his thumb to bump his line as he was winding to give the crank some flash or deflection....I have never done that fishing that fast, but then again I wonder what gear ratio that was, that is rattle trap speed for me or trying to fire up some fish, but he was chucking and winding....Rookie that guy, He just get's lucky.
It's major league fishing. It's all about numbers.
I have read that his philosophy is to at first fish very fast to find ACTIVE fish, then he may slow down if necessary. He usually uses spinnerbaits for his search mode, I think. This looks to me like he is in his search mode.
What is Challenge Cup Sudden Death? I am not at all familiar with money fishing of any sort. I got the impression this was about keeper numbers vice getting a biggun...

You know about him so are probably correct. I wouldn't know him if I ran into him at a ramp. But, he didn't seem to be searching to me. He must have known a LOT about what to expect in that bay right at that time....I can't imagine someone with money on the line spending that much time in one fairly small place...and without changing up lure or delivery... unless he was darned certain there was money there
Thanks for sharing. Very cool.
