How many lures do you own? 2024

fishing user avatarT-rig reply :

Just wanted to know how many lures you guys out there own!

My wife thinks i got to many but i guess i'll know after you guys let me know.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Cranks ----> close to a 1000, you don 't think I 'm going to count them in front of my wife do you ?

Spinnerbaits -----> close to 200

Jigs & worms -----> 40-50 pounds.

Swimbaits -----> my stock is modest, it doesn 't reach 50.

fishing user avatarboondocks reply :

Way to many. About five big tackle boxes full and I'd be willing to bet I don't use 90% of the lures I have.

fishing user avatarT-rig reply :

I never actually counted mine neither but i probably will one night when my wife is asleep.

I have gone so far that i hide new lures from my wife anywhere i can!

fishing user avatarTournyFish001 reply :

not going to count!!! heaps upon heaps of tackle at my house!

fishing user avatarSupermat reply :

Swimbaits: 400-500

Topwaters/Ripbaits: 75+

Buzz/chatter/Spinnerbaits: 75+

Cranks: 200+

Soft plastics: 200 lbs+

Spoons/blades: 30+

All in all... WAY too much tackle but you just never know when you're going to need it!

fishing user avatarMunkin reply :

Step 1 is admitting you have a problem ;) so I am not going to say or count. What I can tell you is at last count I had 42 of my favorite bandit crankbait (hey, they may stop making them so I stocked up) and 27 LC pointers in my favorite color.

My situation is similar to FlyPhisher. Years ago, after my wife passed away, the bait monkey moved in. LOL  ;)

fishing user avatarMattStrykul reply :

enough that I use all of it exept a few.

12 spinnerbaits

4 buzzbaits

1 slim dog

3 jigs

whole bunch of plastics

12-15 cranks ;D

fishing user avatarSwampMan reply :

Crankbaits - less than 10

Spinnerbaits - 1 or 2

Topwater Baits - 2 Zara Spooks!

SwimBaits - 2

Soft Plastics - Endless ammount!

fishing user avatarlazeebum reply :

I have enough baits that no one in my family thinks to buy me any as gifts, so I just keep buying and losing them, but I gonna run out tackle any time soon.

fishing user avatardink reply :

All of 'em.  I don't believe in renting lures. ;D ;D

fishing user avatarLard_Bass reply :

Got a second tackle bag this Christmas and filled it up.  One tackle bag has about 25 bags of soft plastics.  My other tackle bag has probably 50 cranks and an assortment of hooks.  I am limiting the bait monkey to 2 bags (one for soft and the other for hard).

Wife doesn't understand why I catch and release.  If I go through all the trouble of buying equipment and catching the fish, why not eat it.  I eat saltwater fish but not much of fan of freshwater.  Since she doesn't understand my hobby, I don't bother telling her how many lures I have!

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

Well, first off, I have been getting rid of a bunch (most) of the old lures, for the last few years, so I don't really have much left from my old "bait monkey" days.

I have a handful of collectors swimbaits laying around. And few crank baits and jigs that I use for Stripers. In a nutshell, I probably have less lures than any of you guys, and whittling them down to less and less, all the time.

But now, how many lures do I have, "that I use" ?

Right now, I have about 30 Huddleston Trout, mostly #12's in regular trout pattern. And about 30 Basstrix Bluegills, in regular Bluegill pattern. That's all I need. I'll get me some more when these start to run low :-)

fishing user avatarbass109 reply :

not in the 1000s  ;)

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

I've got a lot of baits that I bought for those situations I think I might need them for one day.

I've got far fewer that I actually use on the water.

Every few years I toss out those baits I thought I should keep around just in case.

unfortunately, I usually wind up turning around and re-purchasing more baits for the just in case situations.

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

About 10.

I used to have a boat load, common sense finally caught up with me, now I stock up much like FC.

I buy bulk of what gets used.  That would be soft plastics, but as for lures, my partner has a good collection of cranks, other than that, I have my topwaters and a few swimbaits so I'm sticking with the number 10.

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

Tooooooooo Many but not quite enough !

I have 7 3700's in one rack in the boat, 5 in another compartment.  I also have a spinnerbait box in another.  I have several boxes full of lures I don't use at all, and another box full of lures still in the wrap.  All told, this is about 5 times what I need. ;)

fishing user avatarRattlinrogue reply :

This is the path I am headed to.  More then 10 lures but not near what I have.  I just have too much other stuff that needs used up.  Once its gone its not getting replaced.

fishing user avatarTravisLovett reply :

I started to count, but around 200 or so I lost count so I just gave up.  That was kind of an eye opener.  See I just plan on when there is a nuclear fall out, I'm gonna have enough lures so i can fish for my survival.  Thats my excuse anyways.

No problem in being chicken, heck, I hate to admit it but I 'm chicken meself.  ;)

fishing user avatarBassBeat101 reply :

Not really a ton of tackle for me -

10 crankbaits

10 spinnerbaits

Maybe 3 or 4 topwaters (I usually use soft plastic frogs)

About 20 jigs

50 bags of plastics

Of course, I'm also very poor.  I shouldn't even really have half of the stuff I have here!  An 8 X 8 room full of lures sounds lovely.  Sigh, someday...

Daryl

fishing user avatarKenDammit28 reply :

I own 4 crankbaits(two baby 1-, a bomber Fat A, one I found in an old tackle box), two jerkbaits(X-Rap and a Husky Jerk), Three topwater chuggers(Two Pop-n-Images and a Rebel Pop-R), Two Jitterbugs(black one and chrome one), a hula popper, and some three rapala lures I found in the same old tackle box. Thats one 370 box

I have about 6 different colors of Horny toad/Yum Buzz frogs(yellow, white, green pumpkin, black, black/red, watermelon/red), thats a 370 box

I have a box filled with different color stikbaits...maybe 8 different colors..it also has three different tubes and green pumpkin baby brush hogs in it...

the last box has 9 jigs(most are black or black/blue) with assorted color trailers and 6 chatterbaits.

in the side pockets of my bag I have one box that contains 48 zoom lizards, the other side has 35 flukes and a 360 sized box that contains finesse worms and grubs.

I have a spinnerbait box with about 20 blades, most are same color, different blade combos.

In the front zipper pocket I have 4 colors of trickworms(green pumpkin, black, white, junebug), and some more finesse worms and a couple different colors of tiki sticks.

thats all I'll ever need. I don't buy more until i'm out of something and have never ran out while on the water. The biggest replacements I make are with frogs because I fish them A LOT.

So in total its 15 different lures..about 200 pieces or so if counted all separately.

EDIT: I forgot three more lures..two Zara Spook Puppies, Two Heddon Torpedos, and a pack of wildeye live crappie swimbaits.

I THINK thats all....

YESSS!!

Actually I am a 13 yr. old fisherman that recently undertook the transition from panfish and trout up to bass.  A couple of years ago, I inherited a lot of tackle from my grandad when he died.  Thought I was living in heaven.  As time went on, I learned how crappie some of the stuff was.  I have been getting rid of a whole bunch of that stuff.  All I have left of his are a couple cranks.

Now, I have pretty much learned what I need and have been updating little by little.

At this point I have:

A large tackle box with 3 boxes and large compartment

11 jigs

3 spinners

3 buzzers

close to twenty inline spinners

7 bags of plastics

5 topwaters

6 cranks

12 spools of line

Plus some other stuff that I don't want to count

4 nice rods of my own. Plus 2 rods which are my dads main ones, and 5 that are for the rest of the family whenever they come with us.

Since I recently started better bass fishing, I have a whole bunch of other stuff for trout and panfish. Close to 500 hooks, about 30 bobbers, 13 jars of that stupid powerbait stuff and enough other useless stuff. My dad grew up with mainly trout and panfish, so I (and he) are basicly learning this from sratch.

I am in the market for a good supply of good lures, and scrounge ebay daily. If any of yall have any good ones to sell, I am ready. Preferably softbaits and spinners/buzzers.

fishing user avatarhi_steel_basser reply :

I won't say I have alot of lures, but I was recently attempting to organize it all and found a LC Sammy that I DIDN"T EVEN KNOW I HAD.  ;) ;D It was an 85 MSMJ Herring color. I don't feel the need to eliminate tackle, I feel the need to buy more storage boxes.

fishing user avatarbait__Monkey reply :

fishing user avatarMunkin reply :

Since I quit my sport compact car hobby and focus completly on fishing I have a few baits? ;)

You may have a baitmonkey problem if you answer yes to any of the following questions:

1. You have more lures than you can physically carry.

2. You buy lures that you already have 3 or more of just in case they decide to quit making them.

3. You have any lures that had to be airmailed from Japan.

4. You have Japanese translation software so you can try to order more lures from Japan (Raul this one is probably you?)

I will add to this list as things come to me.

Allen

fishing user avatarhi_steel_basser reply :

3 out of 4 aint good (bad). I wold never buy the software. The bait moonkey don't want me spending unnessesary money in other directions.  ;)

fishing user avatarbassboy1 reply :

Just got back from Wallyworld.  Their clearance stuff is just about gone.  I had intended to get a good bit of the 3x baits, but they only had two different kinds.  So I got one bag of green pumpkinseed lizards.  I also got 5 other bags of other clearance baits.  And I got 2 manns baby minus cranks.  A minus 1 and a minus 4.  I meant to get a minus 8, but forgot.  On impulse, I got a Minn Kota temperature sensor.

I need some more green pumpkinseed worms, but they didn't have any, clearance or not.  I cannot afford much more, because I will be almost emptying my account with the fishfinder I am probably gonna buy from basspro05.

I need a job!  Danged old bait monkey.
