Other tackle store besides TW 2024

fishing user avatarKsam1234 reply :

Wondering what other tackle shops people shop at online? I was looking st Tackle warehouse and they don’t have some of the colors im looking for in a bait. I would rather not buy 2 lures from this place and 2 from here and 1 from another etc etc. just wanna buy it all from one.. any other decent providers out there ?

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

FFO, Outlet Bait & Tackle, EBay and Amazon.

fishing user avatarGlaucus reply :

I recently used FishUSA for my first ever online fishing supplies order (I like to buy everything in person). Their selection was huge, prices good, and shipping fast and well packaged. I, too, had to look outside of TW because they didn't have everything I needed.

fishing user avatarDINK WHISPERER reply :

Seems to be a huge problem with TW lately. I have been drawing away from them myself because nothing I want is ever in stock.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

Local tackle store.  They can order whatever you need if they don't have it in stock.

This was my first thought since we have two pretty good Marine/tackle shops in my small town. I was told they couldn't do it unless it was a big supply in bulk. But that seems to only applies to baits only though.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

You'd be surprised at what you can get off eBay too. Lot's of tackle shops on there that offer great prices and decent shipping rates, even if you're only buying one lure.

Tackle Warehouse is always my go-to, but if they have a lot of stuff back-ordered, or I "NEED" a certain item, I'll look elsewhere. Places I've used before....

Outdoor Pro Shop

Tackle Supply Depot

Carolina Fishing Tackle

The Hookup Tackle

Last Chance Tackle

The Tackle Trap

Fish USA

Turner's Outdoorsman

and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few

I've got a few local shops near me that I'll give business to for live bait and small last minute items (maybe I ran out of some worms). I almost always do online for bigger orders though.

Also pretty much all Reel orders I do through Ebay now, the discounts are just too good to pass up when they happen.

For all of your Zoom products and colors, plus special runs and Zoom baits headed to South Africa and Japan, contact Fred at http://virginiaguidebaitco.com/

Check out their catalog.

Their prices are in line with the tackle shops but they have all of the colors and styles you would ever want.

Thank you everyone I found what I was looking for. Tackle warehouse has 99.9% of everything but I was looking for a color of the pompadour they didn’t have in the regular size that’s all. Hope the pompadour is a good as everyone says .. thing looks crazy

The factory outlet of Pure Fishing. Sometimes has good deals on Abu, Fenwick, Pflueger and some other brands.

I'd love to support local tackle shops more, but they seem to always be so overpriced and have very little in-stock of what I actually need. I get it's super costly to have a ton of overhead in having every bait in every color, but how can I shop there if they don't even have the basic's that I use at a reasonable price? I don't mind paying 50c or $1 more for a lure or some plastics, but the one shop by my house is selling most plastics at a $2-3 mark up and they only have one or two colors. Forget actual hard baits. Like you, I just go there if I am taking a cousin out and need some worms or shiners for her.

I try but most of the good ones have closed that are near to me.  The best I have around is DSG and that is not saying much.  My hope is that someone will open a new shop.

fishing user avatarStephen B reply :

Always support your local shops when you can because if they go out of business, you may not have access to quality gear except through online.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I buy a lot of my baits off Ebay. You can often find them cheaper than normal price with free shipping if you look around a little bit. Last week for example, I've been wanting to try a 75 Plopper but didn't want to put together a whole TW order. Got on the Bay and found them for a dollar cheaper a bait with free shipping, got in the day I was going fishing and got to put it to good use the day I got it.

fishing user avatarSpankey reply :

I wish I had two half a**ed shops near me. Local I have a Wally World and DICKS, frustrating to go to because they have a whole lot of nothing. I think across the country all WW and DICKS are not created equal. Some guys have good ones.

It appears that BPS and Cabela's are into thier own house brands more than ever. Name brands they have priced through the roof. I'm not into that so I've put on a boycott.

TW has been my on-line go to. For the most part I call my stuff in. There are a couple of guys there that are decent to talk to and helpful. Certain times of year with the holiday sales prices can't be beat. **F has worked out well but don't seem to use them.

When I do a bit of a road trip to fish the lower Susquehanna I stop into SB&T on my way home. They are the best mom and pop shop I've ever been in. I think they are set up on-line also but have not tried that route. They have a nice selection of Robo Worm in the shop.

fishing user avatarWVU-SCPA reply :

+1 on local tackle shop.  Yes they are more expensive, but if your face becomes familiar there are some perks you can't buy online.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Susquehanna Fishing Tackle.  You're welcome ;)

Fisherman's Central has a pretty big selection

I've pretty much stopped buying from both stores as well. They usually don't have all of what I need, if they do have it it's marked up, and it's a decent drive to get to the nearest one.

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

I've used susquehanna, outdoor pro shop, manventureoutpost, FFO, outlet b&T.  I also have a good local independent tackle shop in town that stays pretty well-stocked, and sells a few things by small regional tackle makers. I'll order from cablelas or BPS if they have a good sale on something I want, but I prefer other places.

This is always the preferred route and I always try to support them but if the price difference is too great (especially if free shipping is offered) my wallet forces me to order online. Also of note, most local tackle shops can't order everything as in they have a certain amount of vendors they deal with so the availability of tackle, rods, reels etc. is limited to the brands their vendors deal in. Another factor is that most local tackle shops (mine included) have to meet a minimum dollar amount before they can place an order so they can't just order your specific lure or reel unless they already have a large enough order being placed to meet the minimum requirements. Most local tackle stores are at the mercy of their vendors as well...for example if a local store buys let's say 5 of a certain lure at "x" amount of dollars and a big box store (or large online retailer) buys 500 of the same lure the vendor price for 5 compared to 500 is significantly higher in most cases which makes it very hard for the local guy to adequately compete. this is very unfortunate and I have first-hand familiarity with this type of situation as I used to work for a small family run office supply business which had been around for many years but then a new Staples opened up only a few miles away. This initially devastated our sales as everyone had heard of Staples through mass advertising and as more newer (non-native Vermonters) moved in Staples was the name brand and they would automatically go there for their office supply needs. Eventually people would stop back by and realize that on some items we were very competitive price-wise but there were many that we simply could not compete on.

fishing user avatarcgolf reply :

I have a few besides TW

DSG between all their sales and reward card I have used them quite a bit even though their selection is a bit lacking.

Acadamy I got a great deal on ploppers and traps and would order from them again

BPS and Cabelas Took advantage of their no minimum free shipping to get some of their house baits I like and items TW was out of stock.

Asfor the local shop, I used to frequent one quite a bit till it was sold. After the sale, prices were bumped up a lot, seemed like most baits went up by 2 bucks, and we are talking existing stock. They were always a bit higher than the online stores, but I was willing to pay a little more for the convenience. That last price hike put them in the territory of only go in as a last resort. It’s a bummer, but guessing I am not the only one that stopped going there.

In case any are wondering I am the old cranky;) cgolf11, I needed a new account because of an email issue.

fishing user avatarsnake95 reply :

Won't solve your search for a site with large selection, but worth adding to the list since they have had some great deals on hardbaits and their prices are often good.  Their service has been good the couple of times I've ordered from them.

I try to buy local as much as possible, we have a great place in town and their prices are on par with big box stores (Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse) Only downside is they're sold out of very popular stuff at times. Otherwise, I use Ebay, TW and Amazon a lot.

I have used them and I do like them (great savings) BUT their selection is not what I'd call stellar.  If you are willing to compromise or just luck into the specific items/colors you want, it's a great shop.

Things have changed at FFO, it seems.  For a number of years, they had great selection of recent year models as the Fenwicks and Abu's brought out new stuff.  I've got at least a half dozen rods from them, but it has been nearly a year since I've seen anything there that got me excited.

For example, Sierra was closing out Fantasista Regista for $150, but FFO is still asking north of $300.

Have bought lots of lures from Ebay and Amazon, especially lures that are hard to find in the local tackle shops by my house. Most of the time I get the lures at a lower price than shopping in the local tackle shops with free shipping. Have bought other fishing gear from other countries and so far I am happy with my purchases.

On some of my previous post on this thread I had retracted some statements I wrote about tackle direct and their customer services because we were trying to fix an issue I was having with a curado k that I had purchased, so I went threw the exchange process on my own dime for the shipping and they sent me another reel or the same reel. The box had no seal and the reel wasn’t even in bubble wrap the worst part about it is that the problem I was having with the thumb bar not engaging properly was still having that problem. The reel was greased up good and oiled I presume they did a quick serving to it and resent it? But I’m pretty disappointed with them and I will only go threw TW from here on out Or eBay ...  I’m keeping the reel have one of my guys check it out and fix it I don’t want to hassle with them. I don’t recommend them! this is just my opinion and experience with them. You like them that’s cool, but I will never order from them again!

I'm a bit confused. First you retract the above statement about Tackle Warehouse.... Then in the lower statement you say your only gonna use Tackle Warehouse exclusively. What gives?  Am I missing something?  Tackle Warehouse is tops in my book. The ONLY issue I've ever had was waiting too long to order and they ran out of the baits I was gonna order. But, ultimately, that was on me..

In that previous retracted statement I was agreeing with @Burke and basically talking about talkle directs bad customer services.............. I feel like they treat you like your just trying to rip them off or something instead of helping you they are on the fence about helping you with return exchanges.

What I’m saying is only tw or Alf on eBay I wanted to try tackle direct and my personal experience was not good don’t recommend.

fishing user avatarje1946 reply :

TW says they will match price, but when matching price they don't give you the military discount.  Earlier this yr I found a helix10 for $50 less than TW had the same model. TW said they would match, I asked for Military discount and was denied I stated then why should I buy it from you.  Person said he was sorry that was the policy.  So I bought it from the other place.  Just didn't seem very fair to me.  Lately been buying most of my products from Tackle Supply Depot.
