Hi
Im about to buy 2 o 3 max spinner bait targeting smallmouth, largemouth and white bass, but i never used a spinner so i don't know, considering tha i will only buy 3 max wich colors are the best to choose, i normally go fishing after 5 pm and sometimes i stay fishing till midnight.
By the way i fish in Amistad reservoir or Amistad Lake in Del Rio, Texas.
Thanks
I'm no expert, nor do I even have any confidence in spinnerbaits as I dont use them a whole lot. That being said if I were to go buy three spinner baits, I'd buy one green pumpkin, one white/chartreuse, one black/blue or another green pumpkin with a different variation of color...maybe some orange in it. As far as blades go, one will produce more vibration than the other. I only own two spinner baits and they're both gold, one has two willow blades, the other has a willow blade and a smaller colorado blade.
I'll be watching this thread though for more responses because this is one lure I really want to better incorporate this year.
I don't use spinnerbaits as often as I should, but when I do I usually throw it when white/chartreuse color combo works the best. I always have some sort of a white trailer and a trailer hook as well.
Not much to go off of, but I hope it helps.
Spinnerbaits to me are a stained/dirty water only technique. With that being said I pretty much only throw white and chartreuse, blade combo depending on water clarity. The dirtier the water the more likely I will throw double Colorado blades opposed to willow leaf blades, as they produce more "thump". Best times to use a spinnerbait is overcast conditions with some wind. Target cover like laydowns, dock pilings, weed edges, rip rap banks, points. Adding a trailer hook with help with short strikes. As far as equipment goes I use a 7' Medium heavy/moderate fast action casting rod, a 6.4:1 gear ratio reel and 15lb fluorocarbon. 90% of the time I'm out I have a spinnerbait rod with me, they just flat out catch fish.

For White Bass I choose Strike King Rocket Shads . If you do go that route wrap a little wire around the double hook because I've had two or three come off during the fight .

Or what I do is remove the double hook and put a Gamakatsu size 1 open eye siwash hook on and clamp it shut with pliers. I feel it works better than the stock double hook.

I'll try that . I dont like the double hooks but they are good lures .
Stanley Vibra-Wedge
Designed to deliver maximum thump and vibration, the Stanley Vibra-Wedge Spinnerbait produces more water displacement than any other spinnerbait on the market. Featuring two of Stanley’s most innovative designs - Vibrashaft wire and Wedge blades - the Wedge blades are specially designed and taper in thickness, allowing them to emit the thump of a Colorado-blade, as well as, the flash of a standard willow blade.
For all around setup I prefer double gold willow leaf & skirts of white, chartreuse, or any combination there of!

I agree, those Rocket Shads are nice little finesse spinnerbaits!
Thanks to all, the informations was really helpful
I always have a spinnerbait tied on. I typically use either a white/chartreuse or a black/blue with 1 willow and 1 Colorado blade. The majority of my good fish this year have been on spinnerbaits.
Some good advice above.
Good rule of thumb would be:
Low Light Conditions/Stained Water: Darker colors and more vibration - Colorado Blade
High Light/Clear Water: Lighter more natural colors and less vibration - Willow Blade
Windy Conditions. Clear Water with a lot of chop: White Color/Double Willow Blades fished into the wind
Never hurts to add a trailer or trailer hook or both
Good luck @grayfox0327, let us know how you make out.
3/8 double willow either War Eagle or Siebert Outdoors. White with accents is best color. Throw regardless of conditions, and Reel fast enough where blades are 1 to 5 inches beneath surface. Spinnerbait is my favorite bait.
Thanks for all your comments, i´ll try that today
I fish Amistad a lot too. It seems spinner baits are most effective in the spring. You can't go wrong with white/chartreuse.
I always throw out a plug for the good ol' H&H Spinner baits when there is a post about them. They are VEEERRRRY cheap and they flat catch fish. The best thing about them...especially when you are on a tight budget...is that you can throw them fearlessly without worrying about losing them. Buy 2 or 3 of every color and style and you are still less than 30 bucks down. Just remember to put the hooks on or your hookup rate will be..uh...less than stellar. I wouldn't know, of course......a friend told me.
3/8 Double Colorado blade can be found at Academy for $1.49 or even cheaper on Ebay. They are very old school and have been around forever...because they work.

Thanks for, very useful
The lures you chose are good but your not going to catch many white bass on them .
when its dark i tie on a strike king tour grade night spinner bait and have gotten good results.
also those 1 dollar black colorado spinners at walmart works great too. a bit small at 1/4 oz but its still castable in most situations and catch fish.

Thanks to all of you, the information was really helpful, any extra information is moat welcome.
@The Patriot: I see you're from western MA and in the same predicament as I. I have always stunk up the joint with spinnerbaits until this year. Funny thing is, I've still never caught anything on white and/or chartreuse. Only way I could catch a bass with those colors is to wait until it jumped, then hit 'im in the head with it. This year I did learn I will have success with more natural colors fished on windy days when the lake surface is a little choppy. I won't even bother with spinnerbaits on clear, calm days. (NOTE: I'm the last guy to tell anyone how to fish those things, but I do feel I'm making progress.)

That's a great looking spinnerbait Catt! I use the Jewel Bait Jolt Spinnerbait, mostly night fishing, that thing will loosen your teeth! Have you used the Vibra-Wedge, and how do you like the thump, thanks!

I've known Lonnie for 45 yrs, I started with the Vibra Shaft, Wedge, & Wedge Plus. In my humble opinion there is no spinnerbait marketed that has more thump!

Well sounds like Lonnie made another sale, I will be ordering a few today, thanks for your insight sir!
I find that earlier in the season and also in some shallower water locations, smaller spinnerbaits, a 3/16" or 1/4oz or even occasionally a 1/8oz tend too work pretty well, where 3/8" is your all-around summer spinnerbait for bass.
I tend to buy the white/chartreuse for clearer weather and darker colors for muddier water or larger spinnerbaits that are fished deeper in the water. Not sure if this really makes a huge difference or not but I do find using the proper size for the location seems to make the most difference.

I know GrumpyOlPhartte is from Western MA (I found a prior post where he talks about fishing a lake I fish at too, so maybe roughly the same parts).
You can go but the whole store or you can "get by" with 2 baits for 3/4 of the year:
3/8 oz white
3/8 ox chartreuse
I'd go with double willow leaf baits because they offer the drag to go slower. I even use these in the winter.
Here's a secret for your 3rd bait: http://www.wareaglelures.com/g05-gold-shiner.html
It's my favorite and has been tied on since early spring. It's a bit pricey, but considering it has basically replaced all others, not a bad deal. It flat catches fish. I ordered two more: One for my buddy and a spare for me.
With spinnerbaits, I'm a believer in the K.I.S.S. line of thinking. One 1/4oz. ***/8oz. and one 1/2oz. White/Chart, double Colorado blade. Choose a brand, get two pkgs. of skirts, one black or black/blue and one in a craw color. Then get a pkg of willow leaf blades in silver and one in gold.
You now have 18 different spinnerbaits at 1/4 the cost. Just switch out the components and you're good to go.

@Boomstick: I'm gonna take a guess and say you fish Cheshire Lake. Did I do good?

I mix it around a lot but I do fish Cheshire Lake. I also sometimes fish Onota Lake, among others which I saw that you mentioned in an older post.
@Boomstick: Well, the bad news is that I haven't exactly been killing 'em in either.
The good news is twofold!
1. I left ya lots of fish.
2. Between the two lakes you mentioned I've managed to wash a lot of lures.
Buckley Dutton and Ashmere are next to undergo my vicious assault.

I haven't either. I've caught a lot of small pickerel and bass in Cheshire, they seem to love a small spinnerbait there. In Onota, I got one smallie, but I did see a truly massive trophy bass jump out of the water in front of me. If I didn't get a good look at it, I might have mistook it for a Pike based on its length. I cast to the general area as quick as I could, but it was too late.
Not much luck in Ashmere so far either, but the last time I made it out for more than 30 minutes, the water was 61 degrees which is tough from shore, been really busy the last few weeks.
A friend sales me these 5 spinner for 10 dlls are those good colors and styles?
Sorry i have ro crop the picture so o can uploaded
I did not caught any bass, but i caught a 5 ft alligator gar fish last night with a black buzz bait ?
