Walmart Spinnerbaits - Best Spinnerbait Buck For Buck 2024

fishing user avatarWeld's Largemouth reply :

I went to Walmart the other day here in Florida to check out what lures they had.

I saw a stack of Walmart PROMO Spinnerbaits that were priced a dollar each. The hooks were strong and sharp and the lure runs perfectly straight. I picked up 4 of them thinking, its only 4 bucks for 4 spinnerbaits, what a steal!

These are the spinnerbaits that have caught me the most fish then any other Booyah, Strikeking or brand spinnerbait

The only downfall is the skirt tends to slide down when you hook into a 5lber :D

These are the fish i have caught in the past 3 days on these spinnerbaits:

1. 22.5 inches, 5lbs 8 oz

2. 22.5 inches 5lbs 4 oz

3. 21.5 inches 5lbs 1 oz

4.  21 inches 4lbs 11 oz

5. 20.25 inches 3lbs 6 oz

6. 18.5 inches 2lbs 10 oz

7. 17 inches 2lbs 7 oz

Best spinnerbait ever

I picked a few of those up at my local Wal Mart and gave them to my father. After his first weekend of fishing with them, he told me to buy him more skirts!

fishing user avatarSmokinal reply :

Would some super glue fix that skirt problem? I know you shouldn't have to for a drop of glue for $1 bait = fair trade.

Definitely would!

fishing user avatarBank4Bass reply :

I fished the white ones almost exclusively for 5 years or so and people always laughed at me for my $1 spinnerbaits until I out fished them. I throw them in places spinnerbaits aren't supposed to go and when I lose one it's only a $1.

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

That's the way to fish them, more like a jig in that they are consumable as opposed to an expensive crankbait you want to retrieve if at all possible.

Walmart also sells those Bomber Spinnerbaits for $1.50 a piece.. an upgrade over the $1 ones

Well, most guys don't actually lose too many spinnerbaits. I really don't think

that is much of an isuue. But what is an issue is losing the fish of a lifetime.

I buy MegaStrike StrikeBack and Siebert Outdoors Cosmic spinnerbaits for

their quailty components and attention to detail.

yeah, I aint risking losing a fish.  I like quality.

fishing user avatarHogsticker reply :

If it's working for you great. To refer to it as the best spinnerbait ever may be a bit of a stretch

I don't lose a LOT of Spinnerbaits, but the way people talk, apparently I lose more than most other people do. Of course, I throw them right into the junk. I'm like DVT; I look at them more like a jig than a crankbait, as far as their expendability, and where to throw them.

I guess the point is, I prefer a spinnerbait that won't break the bank, but won't let me down. I know on some spinnerbaits, the blades are less likely to start turning well on the fall. That is unacceptable. Otherwise, I really just need it to be sharp, durable, and the color/weight/blade combo I like.

I'm sure at some point I've tried one of those $1.00 spinners, but I don't recall being surprised at their quality or disappointed. I'll have to do a review.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

In my 30+ years of bass fishing I´ve lost 3 spinnerbaits, all above water level and all when fishing from the shore.

fishing user avatarquanjig reply :

I probably break more spinnerbaits than I loose!!

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

Geez, I lost 3 Roland Martin Big Bass Spinnerbaits in one Day, great baits, well made, huge blades! Don't ask how, but it happens, I throw them in summer , deep, I always use a crank or plastic in spring and early summer, but that's great.. Catching great fish on a dollar spinnerbait... Can't beat that with a stick!

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

My fishing buddy swears by em the Walmart ones and Gander Mountain ones both $1.

That's because there are no pike, pickerel, or muskies in Mexico....................in fact, I think that's the title to an old Jimmy Buffet song.

fishing user avatarJon G reply :

I sometimes replace jig or spinnerbait skirt bands with a small ziptie. That seems to make them hold up a little better

fishing user avatarsmalljaw67 reply :

I've been making my own spinnerbaits for a long time, I use quality swivels that cost almost a dollar by themselves, along with high quality blades and wire. I know that the $1 dollar wally world spinnerbaits work and will work well at times but if you are relying on just those then your missing the boat on spinnerbaits unless your fishing ponds alone. Try fishing clear shallow water with one of those when you need to burn the bait in order to get bit, this tactic will catch big fish but that wally world deal will roll on its side and you'll haul water most of the time. How about slow rolling a thumper blade in dingy water, that wally word bait is going to have to retrieved a little too fast which will make it lift up off the bottom because the swivel isn't free enough for crawling type retrieves. Yes, if you only throw a spinnerbiat at times when the fish are active they will serve you well but try using them on a high pressure lake or a gin clear river, chances are you'll feel different in those situations.

fishing user avatarBadBassWV reply :

IMO. The average guy who fish's on the weekends, the wally worlds are all you need. They catch fish period. The wire is smaller and puts off better vibration. If your into tournaments and fish for a living then a larger arsenal is needed. I have a couple of the Megastrike strike backs, they are nice spinner baits and well built. I have a couple of the Siebert spinnerbaits, I haven't caught any fish on either of these yet. IMO the profile is bigger and the wire is heavier, in the lakes I fish being 70 acres or less the wally worlds are working better.

how do you'll figure you are more likely to lose a fish?

i have 5 of the walmart $1 spinnerbaits and they out-catch my more expensive spinnerbaits regularly, except for my all white with red head booyah pond magic spinnerbait. never had a problem losing fish with them either. the hooks are plenty sharp and the components are plenty durable.

the only gripe i could possibly have about the walmart spinnerbaits is the limited colors and they only come in one size/weight. and maybe limited blade style, but i dont really care about that myself...

no knock to megastrike or siebert, but youre overlooking something because its cheap price wise and doesnt have a name brand. its that plain and simple. sometimes there actually are good things at fair value prices. now, i dont agree with the thread topic that its the only spinnerbait youll need, but its certainly worth having in your arsenal.

I would have to say it isnt that "plain and simple".

They are overlooked because they have a tick poor hook, skirt quality is laughable, the skirts dont stay on without modification, the wire its made from is weak and breaks easily and the paint comes off bu looking at it.

fishing user avatarCoherence reply :

I've used all kinds of spinners across the gambit from the cheap wal-mart  ones to $15.00 Lucky Crafts...Honestly if i wander into the Wal-mart fishing sections I usually pick up a couple they definitely work. In a pinch I have fished them in a tournament (my partner and I both forgot to grab the box of nice spinners we had thrown in the truck that morning). Definitely not the best spinners on earth, but I will throw them into the worst places and it won't ruin my day if I break it off.

TLDR; They have their place in the world of lures, purists will hate them, recreational fisherman will love them

fishing user avatarWeld's Largemouth reply :

Well look what i caught while you guys debated spinnerbaits! Caught on the red/white walmart spinnerbait! And i even still have the skirt!!!

Hey - you're catching some nice fish and having fun. Whether or not what you're using is the best quality, has the best packaging, biggest name pro endorser etc. - does not matter.

There is no denying that some of what you pay for in a name brand lure is for the name and in most cases, not all, you get better quality.

What matters for you is that these are affordable and productive. Keep catching fish and having fun.

Thanks, and when i don't feel like spending 7.99 to get a spinnerbait that last as long as 4 of these walmart spinnerbaits i could just buy 8 walmart spinnerbaits a dollar each and its pretty much like getting two 7.99 spinnerbaits. 4 and  4

fishing user avatarMassBass reply :

I like those walmart spinnerbaits, however i never fish them without customizing them to my liking or for a technique/situation.

Mentioned before here...when visited a friend on Coosa....seemed the spinners i brought were alittle large...went to Wal-Fart and seen those dollar spinners...blades seemed to be right size i needed and they sure were...i easily caught more spots on that lure then ANY i had with me...they held up pretty good...even landed a 6lb.striper on one.

fishing user avatarRAMBLER reply :

I like the $1.00 Wal-Mart and the $1.49 Academy spinnerbaits.  I've thrown the blade right off of a Roland Martin spinnerbait.

I have some fine stainless steel wire.  The first thing I do with a new spinnerbait is make a double wrap around the skirt, just next to the rubber band, and twist it good and tight.  The rubber band can rot off but I still have the skirt.  It doesn't slip down,  either.

Now, if Wal-Mart sponsored the site, then they'd be top notch.

I'm really startin to love the Booyah Real Gill Spinnerbaits too.. they look sick

..but in all reality, the bomber spinnerbaits at Walmart for $1.50 has caught as much fish as these SICK booyahs

I just throw em cause they look so d**n good

fishing user avatarmissouribigbass reply :

Booyah and terminator are my spinners of choice. I have 2 of every color of the Wal-Mart spinners as well. For fishing a medium speed retrieve shallow the Wal-Mart spinners are as good as any I use them a lot but they are limited in how you CaN use them and their skirts are terrible about coming off. I have had zero problems with the hooks. They're plenty sharp and durable. Not sure what the major debate is about. These lures used properly in their place will catch fish.

The debate is because of the brand. That's it. If they work, then who cares ? Bass don't know the difference....

O I know what the debate is about. I just don't understand it. Many believe if it doesn't have a name on it It's no good. I'm off the belief of something works great doesn't matter if out cost a penny or $100. I watched a guy fish from the shore with a Clorox jug as a reel. Guy wore gloves to retrieve his line he wrapped it around the jug on retrieve. The guy packed up and left the channel while we were there he pulled a stringer full of fish out of the water with around 12 bass on it. Talked to a couple guys who had around 8 baitcaster strapped on their boat who'd caught 1 fish all day.

Poor workmen grumble at their tools. Make the most of what you've got and have fun. That's what it's all about

I once read of a gentleman catching a huge striped bass off of Nauset Beach on a cod jig while using a hand line. But when I fished Nauset Beach or any of the other Cape Cod beaches for that matter, I never even thought of trying to duplicate his feat. Being in the right location is pretty much always the most important component of fishing. I believe  it was rather eloquently stated years ago, "You ain't going to catch them where they ain't!".

Back to the original post: Congratulations on your great success guys! You guys certainly have found a spot where they ARE! Its also awful hard to argue with success.

I've gone past the $1 spinnerbait racks at Walmart many times. I glanced at them and kept going. So yesterday I decided I would pick one up and give it a try (in my pool at least). As I picked one off the rack and examined it these were my observations:

It was light maybe 1/4 oz, more likely 3/16 oz. or less.

The frame was small and of pretty light wire.

The hook was small even for the bait's small size and of pretty light wire.

The skirt was sparse and looked fragile.

The blades(s) looked like they were made of stamped steel and small which sort of fit in with the rest of the design.

Now comes the most important part of any spinnerbait (at least in my opinion)  the swivel to which the lower blade (or only blade in the case of a single spin) is attached. The swivel used  is not a ball bearing swivel. If you give it the "spin test" which Glen mentions in his excellent video, it does not even make a single rotation. So for me this was a sale killer. For the way I fish a spinnerbait it wasn't even worth $1.

But as I stated earlier, if it works for you by all means keep using it. Do I think its the best spinnerbait ever? Not by a long shot. It doesn't make the top 10 or the top 10,000 for that matter - in my opinion.

I've used spinnerbaits for over 40 years. I used to make my own casting the heads and trying different blade and frame configurations to achive various things. When I started using them they were difficult to find and before I made my own I got BPS spinnerbaits through the mail and relaced the blades and swivels to make them work for me.

The largest bass I ever caught came on a 1/4 oz tandem Booyah Blade.

But as I earlier stated if the $1 Walmart spinnerbaits fit your style of fishing and pocket book - then go for it. They just are not my cup of tea.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I've caught fish on the Wal Mart spinnerbaits, and they work just fine in some situations. No way I'd take one to Table Rock or Bull Shoals or one of our local lakes with clear water where fish get a good look at them though. If they work for you, lucky you.

fishing user avatarshanksmare reply :

If you just cast them out and reel them in at a moderate to fast retrieve they should work fine as far as drawing strikes. If you like to pause and drop the bait during the retrieve or slow roll it maybe not so much. But its hard to argue with success.
