Ever Have A Day That's All About 1 Bait? 2025

fishing user avatarSmokinal reply :

My buddy and I went out today and boated 63 together, in around 6 hrs. The funny thing is, we both tried a number of different baits from flukes, spinnerbaits, worms, jigs, craws and cranks but the only thing they would key in on was the crank. The day started off slow so we were searching for that magical bait and we kept going back to the crankbait. So we eventually ditched all others and just stuck to that.

A couple from today:

Not sure what the second one was thinking....

fishing user avataralberto-1 reply :

Yup. Has happened a hand full of times. It happened with a Lunar Lure Lipless Crankbait. I guess they just felt like chasing something.

fishing user avatarGoDeep reply :

I caught 14 the other day on a Riot Baits Fuzzy beaver. They just wouldn't chase anything. Had to drag it right in front of them.

fishing user avatarriverbasser13 reply :

Haha that second photo is hilarious, that's what I love a bass. That sounds like an awesome day on the water!

fishing user avatargeo g reply :

It has happened many times for me, not because other baits would not catch fish, but because I was satisfied with the results from the bait I was throwing.  Why change if something is working, your having fun, and the results are good.  If I'm happy, and my partner is happy,  then my main goal has been met!  :happy-127:

fishing user avatareinscodek reply :

If it works why mess with it.

Unless it gets boring then you can just upsize that type of bait and go for broke

fishing user avatarMaxximus Redneckus reply :

3 diff lures come to mind in the last 30yrs of fiahing for me..super fluke, manns jelly worm and a rattle trap.actually more like month long lures

how interesting, for me it's something similar.
fishing user avatarpapajoe222 reply :

I couldn't count the number of times when I could have left the tackle box at home and just taken one lure.  Of course, without going through some of those baits I wouldn't have known which lure it was. :laugh5:  If I'm lucky enough to figure out a pattern in the short time I'm normally on the water, that is usually the situation. Yesterday it was a short arm, gold Colorado bladed spinnerbait between shore and the inside weed line (about 3ft.) on the wind blown shores of the islands and the main lake. I tried a swim jig in the same locations, but they wanted the thump and flash of that blade.  Who am I to argue?

fishing user avatarRSM789 reply :

Looking at that 2nd photo, I would say you have to adjust your catch total to 62 1/2... :)

Congrats on figuring it out

fishing user avatarSwampstud reply :

Rage craws, jigs with rage craws, wacky rig senko, chatterbaits are my normal everyday patterned baits.

fishing user avatarBasshunterJGH reply :

Yep. I've had days were all they're biting is 5 inch weightless senkos or soft jerkbaits. Sometimes all they'll bite is dropshots or wacky rigs on 6 lb test. I don't like days like that. I'd rather catch them on a squarebill!;)

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Those are the best days when you get them figured out good enough you can put everything else away :)

fishing user avatarHattrick7 reply :

Yes happens often to me. It's kinda cool finding that one bait they really want and then just finding where they're really stacking up at.

fishing user avatarSmokinal reply :

Oh, we had a fun day and I didn't mind just catching them on the crank,,,I love a crankbait bite; feeling that rod load up after bangin a rock, mmm mmm mmm! I just found it odd. Usually when we get numbers like that, we can catch them on anything. In fact, my buddy and I usually use different baits and still get good numbers. But they just wouldn't eat anything but the crank yesterday. Oh well, I'll take it.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

I have had many days where it's only one bait or technique getting bit, and my best tournaments are seemingly when I have it dialed in and throw one thing. But honestly, I am a junk fisherman at heart and the more rods on the deck and the more things that I can catch them on the happier I am.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

I had Three Magic Days in Mexico where it was all about a 3/4 ounce SK Red Eye Shad (Sexy Shad) and I only had ONE ~

I slept with it.

fishing user avatarScott F reply :

It happens frequently with me. It's not necessarily that ONLY one bait will work, but if I find a bait that's working, I don't take it off.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

there's always a couple days on banks lake where the only bait I can catch a bass on is a craw as a topwater...

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

Happened on Sunday for me. Fished all day and couldn't get a bite on anything. Put on a black Cavitron buzzbait and managed to catch a few nice one's in the 2-4# range.

fishing user avatarPersicoTrotaVA reply :

Happened to me yesterday, all of them were caught on a 1/16th weighted owner wacky jig with a zoom finesse worm, except for the first one and the 2nd, they were caught on jackall flick shake worms, cola and watermelon red flake.

I even lost a 5 to 6 lb fish and went right back under the dock and caught the last 2 plus numerous little ones as well.  It was a good day. :)

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

Is that scale accurate for you? I have one but its off and I don't think there is a way to calibrate it...

fishing user avatarRB 77 reply :

Yes. May times over the years but the last trip might have been the funnest. The Gun Fish. Nuff said...

fishing user avatarDark3 reply :

Yep its fall! We had a similar day last weekend and all my fish but one came on a spro clear chart arukashad trap. I dont think Ive ever fealt that confidence about any single bait before. They just couldnt resist it

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

Yes ... I was paired up with someone in a tournament which was fishing shallow pads, weeds and such.  He used a spoon to fish the area and caught bass like mad.  I couldn't buy a bite with everything else I threw at them.  It was nuts.

fishing user avatargulfcaptain reply :

Yes, just the other day had good frog day where the only color they wanted was a platnium frog (ISH Phat Frog).  They were keyed on shad and wouldn't look at any other color frog.  3 other guys fishing frogs and not a blow up on the colors they were fishing where I had a few over 4lb and some smaller fish to go with them as well as the usual misses which are still fun to watch although it would have been more fun to catch every one of them.  The days you find what they want, why switch it up, give them what they want.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Yes,

When it happens for me it allways seems to be a soft swim bait.

Skinny Dipper or full size Big EZ.

Mike

I'm not sure if its accurate but it does have a little dial to calibrate it.  The fish looked to be about the right size so I assume its pretty close.  I don't like the digital ones, they cost more and they break easier.

fishing user avatar*Hank reply :

That's happened to me a handful of times with strike king 1.5 & 2.5 squarebills & once with gyb senkos! :)

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

Just fished a tournament that all the bass wanted was a spinnerbait.  It didn't matter what color as long as it was a spinnerbait.  Spent the entire day trying other things to get bigger bites and nothing.  Went back to the spinnerbait and it was "on" again.
