I'm no swimbait expert but this bait is getting some buzz around me.
Heard really good things about the Mattlures Hardgill swimbait. No personal experience with it though.
Savage Gear is coming out with an awesome looking new soft gill. I have had the best luck with the Deps Bullshooter.
Mattlures hard and soft gills are proven fish catchers, so, if I were you I would start there.
A bullshooter junior if you can actually find one. they don't import the junior to the us only the full size.

X2 - I have one on the way to me now. The Bullshooter 160 is sweet but it's not small. The Bullshooter Jr. is a bit more compact which is what has me excited about it. Check out the Imakatsu Gill Roid too. Ebay has some decent deals, you just have to jump on them. The Gantarel from Jackall looks pretty sweet and not as expensive as these other baits mentioned. Check out the G2 Shellcracker, I think some are still available. Very cool bait and won't break the bank either. Be sure you have a proper rod to throw some of the bigger baits, the shellcracker won't require anything beyond regular bass rods. Good luck and have fun!!
Hard or soft? If hard are you looking for a more glide or serpentine action? Also what do you consider "best price?"
Mattlures Hard and Soft Gills are fantastic, though the hard ones aren't the cheapest and not always available.
The Jackall Gantarel is nice
I've done well with the TT Gill
3:16 is a nice soft gill
The Shellcracker variants are all good
The CL8 is inexpensive and very nice
Also consider that a lot of baits with less than gill like profiles still come in bluegill colors
Sorry, for being long winded, I like bluegill baits
Try the Little Creeper bluegill baits as well.
Soft blue gill swimbait, HuddGil or Mattlures Ultimate Gil.
Hard bluegill swimbait, Black Dog wooden Skellcracker slow sink ( hard to find) or Mattlures Hard Gil bright 3 piece slow sink.
Tom
I'm excited to try the Livetarget Hollowbody Sunfish. We get a lot of good frog bites where I fish, and I can see it being a good producer, then again, it may make a fool of me.
I haven't got it yet, as they're all backordered for the time being, but I'm excited to try it.
I use a really really cheap bluegill imitation I got off Amazon as a last minute thing. It swims incredibly and has done very well for me. I can't remember the price but it wasn't more than $8

I bought a couple of packs and shame on me never fished them last year . May I ask how do you rig them, I assume with a weighted hook if so I'm curious as to which works the best for you ? Thanks
The last time I checked the Matt lures website the Hard Gill s were still available, I would get at least 1 while you can as it could be a while before they are available again. As Tom mentioned the slow sink 3 piece bait would be my first choice out of the various options offered . This also comes in a Baby size which is another great bait .
I've also done well with the Got 'em Coach Bluegill in the floater. I like to fish with short rips similar to a prop bait, it also works well twitching or with a slow wake .
For some reason I catch more Pike & Muskie than I do with the Jackall Ganteral but the link earlier in the thread proves that big bass will eat as well. I haven't spent a lot of time with the Imakatsu Gillroid but I did stick a nice 4-1/2 lber the first time I used it and it looks promising. I will be fishing it hard next spring .

oh man that looks awesome
Wow I'm liking the look of those!
Do you know how much they weigh?

Can't remember but I know there's a 5" and a 6". The 6" is going to be a line through even.
Here's a picture with the hook location options on the 5".
Those look great!
H20 Xpress makes a nice, inexpensive hard bluegill swimbait for Academy also. If you want something cheap that can be fished on regular gear, that's the way I would go for a smaller hardbait.
I'm personally fond of Matt's Hardgill.
BPS makes a small swimbait as well in the XPS line. It's not as big, but works around those 3-4" bluegill they like to eat. And it's a single treble hard bait.
Mattlures hardgill hands down. Got Em Coach is good too. Guess it all depends on what type of bluegill swimbait you're referring to.

I have 1 of those and it swims tilted almost at a 45 degree angle to one side , is there any way to correct this

Make sure we are both talking about the same little bait. The XPS Z9R Perch that's segmented. If that bait swims at an angle the fins on it are probably curved and set to one side causing it to lean over.Being it's plastic, you may be able to dip it in hot water like you do paddletail baits and straighten them.....at least that's what I'd try. Had to do that with a 6" BBZ trout when the slight curve set in the tail piece.
Is there a projected release date on the savage gear gill?

Gamakatsu Weighted Spring Lock 5/0 (Little Creeper recommends the 5/0 size). The sunfish has a top cavity for the hook to sit in perfectly! Also the Little Creepers take well to being completely slimed up in Pro Cure gel or a similar type of scent!
Mattlures Hardgill and U2 soft gill. He could sell his baits for more and his customer service is top notch. Jackall Gantarel is more readily available but the paint is going to chip off if you don't put clear coat on it. Shellcracker G2 for a topwater bait if you can find one. Deps bullshooter's are good glides but not sure if you want to spend that much. 3:16 is coming out with a glide gill that looks very promising but again it's going to cost over a Benjamin I'm sure.
For the money? H2O Express brand. Looks natural, has VMC hooks and an oval split ring. $5.99!

But I have yet to catch anything on mine. I'll dust it off when the bass are spawning next spring. I know how they HATE bluegill around the nest.

I haven't seen one yet but Mads post updates on his Facebook pretty frequently about the baits progress.

Last I read was March of 2016. Looks like a cool bait, however in the pike infested waters I fish, they'd make short work of it. I might get one to toss around in the ponds by my house that I know don't have toothy fish.
