I am looking for an accurate digital scale that went up to maybe 10 pounds. I need one that will not break the bank but I want it to be accurate. Any reccomendations?

x2 the Accu Cull is the best scale for the money IMO. So many cool features for a great price
This one! I have three.

Yup. I have two as well. Just get some fish grips, and you're golden.

I have a hard time believing its any good at the price of $2.52
I haven't had any problems with the rapala ones and are weights are usually pretty close to the tournament scales at the end of the day.

Suit yourself. Been using them for three years. Tested them with known weights. The hook needs to be replaced with a bigger one.
I got a Rapala lock and weigh that was on close out for 20 bucks that is incredibly accurate. Another one I like is the Berkley lip grip with digital scale, I had one until I dropped overboard in 30' of water. The Berkley was very accurate as well, it too was 1oz light meaning if I weighed a fish and it is 4lbs 15oz it actually is 5lbs.

Ill have to agree again. I have tested mine against many other scales and known weights, and its always dead on or. 01 off. Good enough for me.
Also. .. I disagree with changing the hook. I dont like jamming ANOTHER hole in the fishes lip- i just use a pair of fish grips. *shrug* Jmho.
If you have an academy nearby pick up their store brand digital scale, its cheap and reliable. ( sorry can't remember the exact name lol I think its "tournament choice" or something)
I weighed a 4lb bag of sugar In a Walmart plastic bag and it said 4lb 1oz.

I do not poke another hole. A larger hook can be CAREFULLY slid into the last gill plate under the chin of the fish. Hold by the lip until the fish is still, then release and let the fish hang on the scale. Have not caused damage yet. I was using the "battery clip" on the bottom lip of the fish, but the reaction I was seeing made me think I was causing the fish pain.

I'm glad you had a good experience with the "Berkley Lip Grip" , I did not. Very inaccurate.

How did you hook up the fish grip to the small luggage scale? A big split ring? And how much does the fish grip add to the weight of it?
The fish grip has a lanyard that I used for a while, but I switched it out to a key ring. The lanyard was bungee.
I dont remember the exact weight, but the scale has the tare weight saved. So as long as I keep using that same set up, it will be right.
The last one I had kept losing the tare weight towards the end there..well I think it did. ...lol. .. and eventually just died. But it lasted almost a year ( 10 months) for $3 and was accurate. This year I'm going to reset the tare once a month just to be sure.

Can you tell me which hook you are using to replace it and where I can buy it?

Can you tell me which fish grips you are using? And is it safe to hold a fish only with the grips? It won't tear the mouth?
I use the Rapala one, it's very good. I weighed some lightweight aerobic weights at my dads house and it was dead on. Good enough for me

I use this one.
Certainly does hurt not the fish any more than a face full of treble hooks does.

In my opinion the best scale you can get is the Breckneel Electro Samson. You'll pay for it though. You can get it form the Major League Fishing website where you can also get those fish grips.
Ive had good luck with both the rapala touchscreen tourny scale as well as a cheaper berkley one i picked up at walmart. The rapala stays on the boat and the berkely with me for fiahing ponds and such.
I took both to work with me and tested them against our freon scales on a few jugs. Both were within 2/100 on each jug comapred to each other as well as the freon scale.
One thing to remember as well is a good scale can be ruined by improper storage or abuse. We dont leavee them hanging up by their hook and try to minimize plases in storing them to where hook/chain can catch on something and be pulled or stretched.

Yeah... I had the berkley lip grip. Tested it out on 5 different weights of little aerobic weights and it was accurate. But I stored it in an area that compressed it and now I can weigh the same fish 5 times and get 5 different readings.

I have the rapale one as well and its a good scale for cheap. and its accurate, I tested it at work with a postage scale and also the scale we use for putting freon into AC units. the weight matched exactly on all 3!

This is the one I use as well. Very consistent.

You can make one out of just about anything. I made one out of a shower curtain hanger. You can also buy a hook that holds a paint can onto a ladder.
^ the shower curtain ring is the best.
But seriously, just buy the plastic lip grip and be done with it. They're awesome and cheap and last forever. They cause WAY less damage then trying to shove that scale hook through their mouth.
Many times when I use my fish grip- I never even touch the fish. Grip them, set the grip on the scale hook, release the fish. Can't get more "green" than that.
Its the same set up they use on "ultimate match fishing".
I use a cheap Berkley. It works perfectly. I checked the accuracy with various weights and it's on the money. If I lost it tomorrow I'd buy another one just like it!
Tight lines,
Bob

I have one also! Accurate to within 0.01lb. Checked it with my check-weight set. Its more accurate than my berkley digital.
I snagged an ultra sport 30 (25$)from advice on this very forum
Some day when the ice melts i may even get to use it lol
