As the title says im not talking trailer hooks. Im talking trailers. Generally from what I have seen most of the spinners thrown have no trailer on them. However I have seen a few in some videos where there was a trailer as well.
Do you throw a spinner with a trailer on it?
I have not. Im still brand new. I might try it next time out.
I don’t throw a spinner with a trailer but I might during the spawn when I want to fish the spinner slower
I always have a trailer on my spinnerbaits. Usually a paddletail.
I've tried, but found to be more trouble than it's worth. Some bait/trailer combinations can be really hard to tune to run the way I want. Plain skirts seem to be as effective for me
I do use a trailer (no trailer hook usually), but I need it to be very streamline.
I am usually fishing a spinnerbait for brown bass.
Routinely it's happening in the top of the water column and at a fairly high rate of speed.
Bait needs to run straight & true (especially at speed) -
The Strike King KVD Perfect Plastic Blade Minnow and the Yamamoto 4" Zako Swimbait both fit the bill.

Sometimes I feel like a nut... sometimes I don't!
Just don't ask me when or why cause I can't answer that!
I just do or don't! ????
I started to use more trailers on my spinnerbaits this year. Been having good luck with the Hog Farmer Spunk Shad.
I caught fish last week on the same bait with and without a trailer (different style and color trailers as well) over a four day span but the largest was with a small split tail trailer.
Always...same on buzzbaits. It increases your hookup percentage when done right.
Never trailers always trailer hooks for me. I never want to give the fish a reason to strike at something behind the hook.
I always use a trailer, either a boot tail or a fluke.
I've had better luck adding a small-ish trailer onto my spinnerbaits so I'm sticking with that. This year my favorites were the 3.5" Yum Pulse and 4" Yum Swimmin Dinger.
Depends.
When I do I use a Zako.
Same trailer I use on a chatterbait.

Whst does it depend on?
Also one of the "always" crowd... usually thin about 1/3 of the skirt as well. Before you ask, I never fish an undressed jig head either.

Spinnerbait without a trailer is like a jig without a trailer.
I usually use a single curl tail grub close to the color and size of baitfish the bass are feeding on.

I never use a trailer on spinnerbaits or buzzbaits. For me they work just fine without them.

But you may be giving the fish a reason to not strike the hook by striking the blades. I'm not basing this on experience just a counterpoint.
I cannot throw a spinnerbait without a trailer. It’s a mental thing I can’t overcome. I have paid the light bill at zoom with their split tail chartreuse trailers. The only bait I throw without it is a Stanley wedge with the long skirt strands that looks like trailer. Buzzbait doesn’t alway need trailer but usually has one anyway.
I have done both, sometimes a trailer makes all the difference, but be mindful of the trailer you choose, toss a trailer on a spinnerbait that is too long and it can seriously affect the way it runs, too short and the skirt gets in the way and it's no good, I would say as a general rule unless I am wholeheartedly convinced they won't bite anything else I figure a trailer is not really necessary, since the blades provide flash/thump where something like a swimjig/chatterbait needs the extra help.
Most anglers are clueless how a spinnerbait runs underwater. The spinnerbait jig head runs at a 45 degree angle under the blades, the blades spinning are nearly paralell to the water surface or inline with the line pulling the spinnerbait through the water.
Any trailer added helps to plane the spinnerbait more upright looking more natural like baitfish.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Usually when I do I'm either looking for 1 of 2 things, contrast, or bulk.

Just as @Bluebasser86 stated above.
Its an option that sometimes is needed, sometimes it's not.
Other than useing a trailer almost always in "rough seas" There's no specific condition that makes me choose one way or another most of the time.

Court's still out on this for me...was out the other day fishing a spinnerbait....both with and without trailer. Clear water...no to very little wind. Same spinner bait with trailer was murdered...without trailer...short strikes!!!???? Coincidence or not....will continue for awhile to use trailer.
I usually dont . The only time I do is when I need a little extra weight and then I'll use part of a stick worm .
Another one here with no trailer, but never without a 2/0 trailer hook and boy, has that ever come in handy.
No trailer for me but I will use a trailer hook if the cover allows.
I put a trailer on my spinnerbaits and chatter baits much more often than not. I like the BPS Cajun trailers quite a bit, but from time to time I'll put on something else - just depends.
I've caught decent fish both ways.
I'm in the camp with not using trailers.
I always use a trailer on my spinner bait, but trailer less on my buzz baits. I’ve experimented with various plastics over the years. My first trailer was a twister single tail grub. I even used the hula grubs inplace of skirts, very low friction. Now I like split tail trailers that are made of elaztech plastic. They float and kick like nothing else.

Im going to try the hula grub no skirt! Sounds interesting.
I like to use a trailer. A Zoom twin tail or a grub have both worked well.
