favorite reel 2024

fishing user avatarMARSH MASTER reply :

Just wondering everyones favorite. If I missed any let me know. I have 4 Quantums and 6 Shimanos and 1 of my shimanos was my dads chronarch thats 15 years old and has never been in the shop to be fixed and still works great. So in pulling for Shimano.

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

I have Daiwas, abus, and quantum energies.  They all have their place, and I can't say bad about any of them.  But, if I had to chose one brand I would have to stay with my abu s and sx.

fishing user avatarBallpark Frank reply :

Very hard decision between my Shimano and Quantum reels, but in the end I chose Shimano. I love my Energys, but the Citicas tend to see most of the action and usage.

fishing user avatarChad. reply :

Daiwas

fishing user avatarquant PT reply :

I have Quantums and Shimanos.  It was a toss up but I voted for Quantum because I feel like they get a bad rap, and I knew Shimano would have no shortage of votes.

fishing user avatarDaniel My Brother reply :

No favorite brand. If I read good things about a reel, and can catch it on sale, I'll buy it. I've got a little bit of everything and enjoy them all.

The only brand that has let me down on more than one occasion has been Quantum...but if the new reels are better, I might give 'em another shot.

I'm stupid that way.

;)

fishing user avatarbkoguy07 reply :

Daiawaaaaa

fishing user avatarJake P reply :

Shimano.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

100% Shimano from now on.

Curado is excellent and the Stradic's are as smooth as a baby's behind.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

fishing user avatarUBA reply :

Shimano baitcasters get my vote!

fishing user avatarBFBoy reply :

Daiwa. But my Quantums, Abus, and Shimanos are great, too.

fishing user avatar.RM. reply :

Now that's what I call "Politically Correct".

Great response!

fishing user avatarDavis reply :

Love my Shimano baitcasters.

My Pfleuger President is already failing me after only owning it since the fall. The bail keeps closing on me during the cast.

So....once the funds come in...I'm moving to Shimano for my spinning reels as well.

fishing user avatarfishfordollars reply :

I am a Revo man at this moment.

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

Ito - Daiwa - Shimano - Revo.

fishing user avatarAaron reply :

Shimano - Abu Garcia - Daiwa - Quantum - Penn

fishing user avatarCaptain Chaos II reply :

Daiwa ....... upgraded Pixy to be exact, due to versatility.  Steez is also a pleasure to fish.

I was wondering where you've been.

Now we have the Pflueger Sheriff in the house!

fishing user avatarOlebiker reply :

I have a couple of inexpensive Daiwas that are just great, a Revo SC that I will probably sell (it has been a major disappoinment), 2 Quantum Accurist PTs that are very nice, but nothing is as smooth and reliable as my Pflueger Trion baitcaster.

It is a 5.1:1 retrieve that I bought for crankbaits and large spinnerbaits.  I plan to buy another one after I sell the Revo.

fishing user avatarHot n Tot reply :

I own Daiwa, shimano and Abu-Garcia casting reels, and mostly Shimano spinning reels. I just picked up a Daiwa Sol 2500 spinning reel that I haven't had a chance to tryout yet. Hopefully tonight if we don't get the thunderstorm they are predicting.

I really like the Daiwa reels, but in fairness to Shimano I have 3 TD-Z and a Steez casting reels, and my Shimano reels are mostly Curados and a couple of Calcutta CT-100s.  What I mean is the Daiwa reels cost considerably more than my Shimanos which are nice, just not top of the line.

I love all of mine i was buying 2 or 3 a week when they had um on sale for 79.99 .How much will make u part ways with your SC???
fishing user avatarOlebiker reply :

$60 shipped to you.

fishing user avatarBassyak reply :

Based on the number of Quantum reels I have (8), I'd have to say Quantum.  But Shimano (5)  is starting to move up in my rod locker more often (especsially the spinning reels).  And I recently purchased a Pflueger Summit and Patriarch and they are both great so far--very smooth casters and sharp-looking to boot.  This may all change in the next few months when Quantum and Shimano release their new models.

Shimano all the way, I've got 1 stradic FI, 1 Cardiff 200, 2 Curado 200, and a Core 100mg.  But for some reason that skeet Revo has been calling my name.....

fishing user avatarBigBrotherThunda reply :

1) Daiwa-between my fuegos, hsta's, and tierras, they get top nod!

2) shimano-my curados are my 4x4's

3) quantums-i really like the accurists, energies, and codes that i own

4) abu-have 2 revos, they are good, but not great, strong drag makes them great for flipping and frogging

fishing user avatar.dsaavedra. reply :

shimano is the only way to go

fishing user avatarBassaholic84 reply :

STX ALL THE WAY

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

I voted Pflueger since I use more spinning reels that I do casting reels and I LOOOOOVVEE the Pflueger spinners I have. But casting reels, since I've never used a Pflueger then I'd have to say either Quantum or one that's not on the list.........B.P.S. Extreme (don't hit me). Daiwa I have yet to see one I like the feel of in my hand so it never gets a chance on the water cause I don't buy it. Shimano, they are nice in the store but seem overpriced for what they are and I don't like the large frame they have. Seems bulky and heavy. Abu Garcia, I used to use the Ambassadeur round reels and they were good but both of the ones I had went bad in the gearing even though I was religious about oiling and greasing and cleaning them. Had 2 spinners do that too.  Seems a toss up whether I get a good one of them or not so now I don't trust them anymore.

And the only other brand of reel I've ever had consistantly fail me more often than Abu Garcia has been SHAKESPEARE. Never again will I go there. Especially now that I've found this site and read up on what's good and what's not.

fishing user avatarTournyFish001 reply :

I have owned most all of them except(flooger, Pennicle, Ardent, and some others- I have owned a few models of each of the big 3(shimano Daiwa Quantum) no Abus yet, excuse me of the big 4. Shimano Curados and Chronarchs are my favorites they come in about every gear ratio and very reliable no suprises which is a must with fishing equipment, I probably like them so much because they are what I started/learned with like riding a bike with them as far as setup once you get the brakes right its harder to use another design familiarity is nice- My favorite spinning reels are my daiwas Fuego 2000 and Limited Edition Black Widow 2500's- they just beat everything else when it comes to line twist. I guess I will give the quantum PT I used to own an honorable mention cant bash it but I cant brag on it either. Never held a Revo yet sure they are great reels- all the higher end stuff seems to be good these days you get what you pay for.

fishing user avatarJoe Boss reply :

Daiwa for me. I love my Capricorn but I have a low end Samurai reel I take with me every trip as a back up. That reel can take some abuse and still land a ton of fish. As a matter of fact I was on a trip Friday and caught the biggest smallmouth of the day on it.

I like Shimano's and Pflueger also, but I like Daiwa a little more.
