Sorry Mitchell and Zebco; you're out.
My personal favorite every day reels (work-horses that I own more than one of):
Shimano Curado CU 100D (love the size and it's super smooth)
Shimano Symetre Spinning Reel 2500 size (best $79 reel ever!)
Honorable mention:
Diawa SS 1300 spinning reel (drag is awesome)
Lews Crankin Reel (Baitcaster)- the old black crankin reel BB1N I think
I have and love all of these reels. I use each of them for different applications.
Shimano Stradic's and Curado's.
Abu Garcia's in 4600, and 5600.
I have fished Garcia reels since the 50's. Tried others as they came on the market but their early models couldn't compare to the Garcia IMO. I inheireted 7 Shimno reels and 7 GLX rods when my best friend Chuck died and am going to give them a full trial in rememberance of him. I voted Garcia but am not too old to change my mind if others are better.

ABU-GARCIA RULES ;D ;D ;D ;D : :) :) ;D ;D
I voted Shimano but I'm thinking on test driveing a Diawa Zillion was going to go this weekend to buy a new reel but my 10% coupon isn't good until the 12th through the 16th so I'm going this friday. Man I hate waiting
I am a big Shimano fan but I think I am going to jump the fence and buy a Zillion tomorrow. Of course I may change my mind and get a Curado, again.
Overall, hands down, Shimano is the best.
Daiwa gets my vote
Where is the choice for Zebco? Nothing like a super-tuned 33 or 202. ;D
2 stradics, 1 symetre, 1 citica, 2 curados, 1 viento and ohhhhhh......my new STEEZ
i used all quantum last couple of years. i started buying shimano this year, in fact i got m first curado today. high speed 7.1
shimano and quantum are my choice but being on a limited budget i choose whatever is on sale. gotta love ebay.
QuoteDaiwa gets my vote
Same here.
Still fishing Curado-free
Only one kind SHIMANO
Gosh Bud,
We haven't had this poll in almost two weeks, I was wondering if you had changed your mind? :
"Whiskey for my men, and beer for the horses!"
It's hard to take any "best reel" poll seriously that doesn't include Zebco as a choice.
pretty hard to pick from Daiwa and Shimano. I like them both- but I went ahead and voted Daiwa cause there are so many Shimano guys on here. I like the shimano BC's and the Daiwa Spinners. Went fishing with a friend that has a Stella 2500 and I own the Steez 2500. I think the Steez is a better reel- newer technology much lighter with a better drag. Both are great reels, it's just time for Shimano to update a bit.
"It's just time for Shimano to update a bit."
I'm sure the new Steez is a great reel, but the Stella has been out there for five years and one upgrade (FB from FA). The fact that Daiwa finally came up with a high-end, competative product isn't surprising, it's just odd that it took them so long. We'll see how well they are reviewed a year from now. New, out-of-the-box is important, but durability is another aspect that I'm sure we all care something about.
Most of my reels are Shimanos and Daiwas ( 1 to 1 ) with a few old Garcias in the pack.
Daiwa HAD upper end reels for as long as Shimano but they were not for the rest of the world, JDM models only; now they decided to offer the rest of us mortals with a small sample of what they had for Japan.
I like Abu Garcia and Quantum. Just can't force my self to jump on the Shimano (or G loomis) bandwagon. I am very particular and don't like certain things about either one of those companies products.
Abu Garcia for me. Twenty-four years of great service.
Falcon
Shimano. I think the stella is getting a minor upgrade on the spool lip this year.
DAIWA.
I own quite a couple, spinning & bitcasters, and never had any problem with them.
I tryied Quantum, ABU, Shakespeare, pinnacle but they didn't feel so "smooth".
Now, I have to give it to Shimano that they make darn good reels ( Symetre is a great value for the money, and yes, I own one). But I started out wiyh Daiwa and have no reason to change
Quantum all the way! ;D
All I own is diawa and Ive never had any problems.

I voted Abu-Garcia because thats what all my baitcasters are.
In my experience, a Quantum will outcast a Shimano any day of the week, but the Shimano will outlast the Quantum without contest. I still don't own a Daiwa, so I can't compare them. It is too hard to decide between usability and durability for me to vote.
Daiwa . The point is you buy the BEST you can afford, and in the past year I've done just that, (1) Alphas Ito, (3) Zillions, (1) Curado D.
FYI, I still use my old Curado 200s, but not as much as before........
Looks like alot of people haven't used a PFLUEGER ;D
Pflueger rules!!!!!!!!
(summit,president,supreme) they are all good
Shimano are my favorite reels, followed closely by Daiwa.

Pflueger makes excellent and affordable reels, they're just not my favorite.
I use the little Pflueger Purist for pike and muskies and they've never failed where Quantums have literally fallen apart >
(I'd go with Zebco before Quantum...just a bone to pick)

That's funny because Quantum is Zebco. Same company makes both reels. They also distribute Martin Fly reels and Lew's Reels. Also, being in the Shimano posse, I can't help but notice that Shimano users are slightly ahead in the poll.

Yes I know RW I am going to make interesting post here in a few weeks.

I didn't know that Ronnie, but I'm pretty sure they were separate entities when I formed my opinion,
when pterodactyls where still roosting in my giant live oak tree

Yeah, I used one. A Trion. For half a day. It fell apart. Worst $100 I ever spent. I also had a Team All Star flippin stick. The guides fell out in the middle of a tournament. I've bought my last Shakespeare product, thank you very much. I've never had worse products in my boat, but I'll start looking for 2nd worst now.
i'd have to say i'm partial to shimano-CALAIS-need i say more? but at the same time i own several other reels and there are more things i like than dislike about all of them. it's mostly personal preference.

Sounds like you have a problem, just wandering how many boats you have went through. "Oh by the way watch that stump sticking out of the water"!!! ;D
Diawa TD-Z (1)
Diawa TD-X (2)
Diawa Fuego (2)
Diawa TD-S (4)
Diawa SS1300 (2)
Diawa Millionaire (1)
Abu Garcia 4601 C4 (4)
Abu Garcia 5501 C4 (2)
Abu Garcia 4601 C3 (1)
Shimano Citica (1)
Shimano Curado (1)
I prefer the low profile reels of Diawa for all my jig/worm fishing, while I prefer the small Abu Garcia 4601 for my Spinner Bait/ Jerk Bait Fishing.
Shimano
I agree with roadwarrior, They need to add some different colors like deep red , dark blue , graphite.... and change the handle ...maybe a pearl finish in a different color like on the chronarch.
these reels melt in your hand , lets you balance the lure in seconds, and perform flawlessly. I'm just getting tired of looking at the same reel and seeing eveyone else with it.
I have two Citicas and one Curado and will probably add another Curado when the IRS pays me back. however I've never been a fan of shimano rods.
My first baitcaster was a Daiwa and I hated it. A year later I bought a Curado 201 BSF and never looked back. 3 more BSF's and a 201D 6.3.1 and a 201D 7.0.1 later I am a Shimano man for life. I have used some Quantums and they are pretty sweet but for bang-for-the-buck performance and reliability the Curado cannot be beat.
