The new Shimano Conquest is coming to our shores. It's probably not going to cannibalize sales of the D model Calcutta. Those consumers who liked the old model Calcutta TE's did not buy the Calcutta's and probably ordered the conquest from Japan. Who wants to guess a pricepoint on the reel?
$499 from what I heard
Ouch! Nonetheless , a very fine reel, with a long, long, life expectancy I am sure.
TW has them on preorder at 550-570 on the 100, and 200 model respectively; so same as the MRSP in Japan.
Pre order on TW is 550-570
And apparently someone posted while I was typing.
Ugh ... I fold!

You and I both know that you will go to a store that has one. You and I both know that you will ask to try it out. You and I both know that you will succumb to the monkey...
ROF... You very well may be right , that cracked me up!On 7/17/2014 at 12:57 AM, IAY said:You and I both know that you will go to a store that has one. You and I both know that you will ask to try it out. You and I both know that you will succumb to the monkey...
Hmmm, for that kind of money I would rather get me a Calcutta DC.
I'll save $100+ and just order from Japan before I drop that coin.

Nice link, maico1.... That's a beautiful reel, truly my favorite right now, the lines on it are bold and beautiful. But I don't get the price, are not folks getting these from Japan for a better price?

X2
August 10 for me and I LOVE presents!
The added price comes from import costs and added warranty. You can get them from Japan for more than $100 less than the US msrp.
Nice combo Dwight ^
One more here that will just order straight from japan, you save alot of cash. Im really trying to hold out for the 50 series next year, but id love that 101 for crankin....

Wow, thanks, I see what you're saying, but I think people will continue to order offshore, after sales tax in most U.S. states, that reel will be pushing 6 bills! d**n fine reel though, no doubt.
Case in point..add 14.70 for shipping...http://japaneselure.gostorego.com/reel/shimano/shimano-baitcasting.html?p=2On 7/17/2014 at 9:21 PM, Alonerankin2 said:Wow, thanks, I see what you're saying, but I think people will continue to order offshore, after sales tax in most U.S. states, that reel will be pushing 6 bills! d**n fine reel though, no doubt.
If you are getting the reel from Japan, you are devoid of most warranties except for manufacturer's defect within a year. Just so you know in case you guys care about stuff. ( I certainly don't. Trust the product, and your abilities to protect it!)

That's a great site, runs really well I like it... And the prices, well no wonder you guys do it this way! Kinda off topic, the whole micro gear thing, I don't hear anything about it, makes me curious.
I also think you need to take into consideration there are a lot of people out there that rely on a warranty and service.I like many others do my own reel work so that is not a factor and have no problems ordering from the MotherLand. However I do think that is a legitimate concern for those who do not and with that also comes some additional cost.....On 7/17/2014 at 9:00 PM, Alonerankin2 said:Nice link, maico1.... Yes, very valid point, to be sure.
I have two Antares HG reels with micro gearing and they are very smooth operating reels, certainly would not let that get in the way.On 7/17/2014 at 10:04 PM, Alonerankin2 said:That's a great site, runs really well I like it... "Retrieve: The 2013 Metanium reels by Shimano feature a new "micro module" gearing system. Both the primary and pinion gears have approximately twice the number of teeth of a comparable Shimano reel without the advancement. These smaller teeth increase the contact points between gears which should translate into less gearing noise and ultimately, smoother more powerful performance as you turn the handle of the reel. "

Antares, Metanium, and Chronarch Ci4 all have this system if you want to read more about it.
Cal did a review of the Antares and said it was the smoothest reel he's ever turned the handle on.. And thats saying something considering the amount of high end tackle he has.On 7/17/2014 at 10:22 PM, IAY said:"Retrieve: The 2013 Metanium reels by Shimano feature a new "micro module" gearing system. Yes, thank you for that link as well, I coulda swore that the conquest had the micro gears, so I assume that it uses the gearing of the Calcutta TE' s? Or? I read bits and pieces on the conquest but it's been a while....

I have 3 Pixies, 3 Alphas, 2 Scorpion 1000, 2 Scorpion 1000 Mg and 1 Metanium XT , all Japanese, I´ve never needed to use any warranty.
