Whenever I consider all the fishing equipment I have, I always seem to go back to my Abel Pliers and Knife combo. I've had them for several years now and expect to use them til the day I die. The fish gripper is cool too I might add.
My hands. They're good looking hands. Some of the finest I've seen.
Other than that, my boat.
Used to be my GPS, until the antenna went el crapo on me. Now, I'd say my scale, because if I'm using it, I just caught something that made my day.
my boat. its a piece of $**! , but I sure hate being stuck on the bank.
Beside my Shimano Calais, I would have to say it's my Case pocket knife. It has saved me more times than I can count.
HaHa Fishtank... As I was sitting here pondering an answer to this question I was trying to decide between my Loomis Bronzeback and Symetre or my dads old Case that I have carried for years...
I think I am going to go the same way you did...this little knife has got me out of some pickles and for some reason its comforting just to knwo I have it with my no matter where I go.
So my Case XX 61048 is my winner as my favorite fishing gear..may be my favorite piece of gear for my life in general too...I love this little blade.
my triton and my GLX's
my stratos and my leatherman
My boat. It's nothing fancy, but without it, I would miss out on a lot of fishing opportunities.
I have one rod, an old BPS Bionic Blade pistol grip IM6 rod I got off of Stacy King when he was cleaning his closets out. Using that rod is like putting on an old comfortable pair of slippers.
I hear you Cart. New is great, but something about ole' tried and true that can never be replaced.
Polarized sunglasses...being able to see what's going on with the water and being able to spot any structure(they are almost like X-rays eyes for me). Also saved my eyes once or twice from a flying lure.
I cannot fish without my trolling motor and bow mount flasher. I know that is 2 pieces of equipment, technically, but to me they are like conjoined twins. They are,to me, the most important and synergistic pieces of my boat.
Tie between my GLX's and my 4runner that has off-roaded to ponds that many would have to hike to, driven to countless tournaments on far away lakes, and lets me easily throw my Pelican in the back. I have spent many hours (80k miles since it was new in Aug. '04) in my 'runner...and we have bonded. Michelle is my fishing buddy (Yes...my 4runner is a girl). Sne can squeeze my Pelican in the back, and just flat out takes abuse while lookin' good doing it 8-)
my LSU hat feel naked out on the water with out it
I would say my Shakespeare 7 foot excursion. I bought it when I was having my rods shipped
to Florida, Wally World special for 20 bucks and have caught a milion fish on it. Sometimes
I feel bad that I dont use it as much as my higher end rods.
It is hard to have a favorite. hmmm, jigs and tubes. Love drifting on St.Clair. Spring please come soon.
my boat! Skeeter ZX250 with 300HPDI Yamaha pushing me to my favorite spots
QuoteI've had them for several years now and expect to use them til the day I die.
My vest 8-)
I was debating between my favorite pair of blue handled pliers and my triangle shaped hook sharpening stone then it hit me my reading glasses! Ever since I turned 45, they've become absolutely essential, as it's near impossible for me to tie a knot without them. :-/
Maybe not my favorite but one I couldn't do without is my lanyard with clippers, scissors, hook sharpener, knife and pliers. It has a small float attached in case it gets dropped in the drink.
My credit card....
No really it is my daughter give me time to bond
Next to all my rods and reels and boat it would have to be my Leatherman. If I'm using it that means I'm catching fish.
Falcon
Quotemy reading glasses! Ever since I turned 45, /
I didn't think about this one....I'm with you :'(

Hey G_Basser I had one of these too and never thought much of it. I did catch a bunch of fish on it till my buddy broke it in the van door. Maybe the best $20 I've had.
My favorite pieces are
spinning - Pflueger President 6730 reel ( just looks and feels sweet
Shimano symmetre 2500 reel
BC - Shimano Citica
Cabelas adanced angler tackle binder 3700 size. Takes up the space of one 3700 series box and holds all of my plastics. I've saved a s##tload of space in my tackle bag with this thing.
Hey robert, I saw those pliers and said "hey, I like that combo, I should get one" then I see that they retail on the abel site for $500 dollars, ebay for about $300. Cops can't afford that stuff, we have to buy things like, oh I don't know, bullet proof vests.
I've had my set for several years, I forgot what I paid but it was less than $500 for the set.
I agree, bullet proof vests are probably more important in your line of work.
My Rapala pliers. They have saved more fish than I can count.
The drift sock saved the day more than once also.
My polarized sunglasses. I have been fishing a section of my home lake that is 3 to 4 feet deep and clear. I can actually see everthing on the bottom, I even saw a small snake moving on the bottom near my boat last month.
I have a Berkley Lightning Rod spinning rod that I bought in the late 1980s. I have caught almost all of my 6+ pound bass using that rod. I'll be using it again tomorrow morning.
Leatherman multi toooooooool.
Pulls hooks out of fish. Pulls hooks out of me.
Probably my Crawdad.....she ain't much baby but she's all I got.
my one and only LC bait....Fat BDS-2, American Shad...and my C3's
My new Shimano Symetre 2500 Reel I just bought yesterday and haven't even used yet ;D
Get to try it out Sunday and I cannot wait. The thing feels a world of a lot better than my Sonora Reel I currently have on my Scimitar Rod (Shimano). I ended up getting a Bass Pro Tourney Special Medium Heavy Rod to go with the new reel, it's going to be used for plastics jigs and spinners for better hooksets. The reel came with two spools so I am lining one with braid for my jigs and the other with my favorite line (stren series).
