Here in the Mid South we are in a period of tropical rain, over 4" in the last 24 hours and a foot
or more the past week with more on the way! This morning I had a window of opportunity so I ran
over to a local pond. I have caught a couple of fine fish here this week, so I was not discouraged
by the high murky water.
Today's gear was G. Loomis GLX MBR 844C/ CTE200GT/ Tatsu #20/ 7" Senko (watermelon with
black flakes) and a Trokar 5/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook. On the 6th cast I hooked up with a monster
which hung herself up in rocks on a ledge. I let her have a little slack and she was strong enough
to free herself from the entanglement, then run towards the middle of the pond.
Initially I assumed this was the prize I had recently caught and released, but the fight that developed
was completely different. The fish stayed down and pulled hard consistently rather than in spurts.
This was another fish and MUCH heavier!
The Good
I felt the Tatsu being pulled through the rocks and not just casually. Still, constant, unrelenting
pressure was required by me. The fish pulled drag, but I had full confidence in my setting. This
was some fish, but I had not yet seen her.
Tatsu is THE BOMB and the rest of my equipment performed flawlessly.
The Bad
When I finally got this fish to the bank she was hooked in the belly on the right side. Part of the weight
I had been fighting was attributable to being pulled sideways. The runs were unencumbered by the
hook-set and she was still red hot when I landed her. Unfortunately, during the fight she morphed into
a blue cat.
The Ugly
Releasing this flopping monster from the bank with a 6"-8" drop was a bear. I'm trying to grasp the hook
with pliers, holding line and the rod in my other hand. The fish is still in 6" of water and doing everything
she can to escape. I finally secured the hook, but she continued to twist and another fight ensued.
To many balls in the air... POP! My 844C is now an 838.
I have used the Xpeditor Service before, but not since it has been changed. I will report how this goes
later.
I loved that story! Except the pop. That would make a great movie....lol.
Maybe you could get Clint Eastwood to play you RoadWarrior.

That POP sound makes you sick in the gut doesn't it?

Whether you're breaking a sweet stick, losing a tire on the hwy, exploding a complicated wire harness or blowing your ACL- a pop is never EVER a good noise. Ever. For any reason.
Ouch, you had to throw in that ACL reference didn't ya? Made my butt pucker. lol
Pictures or it didn't happen.
That sickening feeling when you hear a pop.....ugh
Great story though
WOW! That was easy peasy...
Called G.Loomis Customer Service which accessed my information which they had stored from a previous
transaction many years ago. Paid $100 on a credit card and the new rod is being shipped today. Upon
receipt I send the broken rod back in the tube they send, prepaid. Very pleasant folks and the whole deal
did not take ten minutes.
Blue Cat = great hush puppies?
Nothing like fresh fish on a wood fire naked. Gutted, salted, peppered and some lemon. I love catfish.
Wow warrior, sorry to here about the "pop",,, it's just hard to believe what some guy's will do to justify new gear,,,,,,
I don't remember exactly when the GLX was introduced, but this was the original,
at least 10 years old I would think. So now we will see if G. Loomis has added any
enhancements to this series.
What was the $100 for? I though those were/ are warranty for life?

That's what it costs through G Loomis for warranty replacement. That's why I buy my Loomis rods
from American Legacy Fishing. You get to keep your $100.00 in your pocket. Gotta LOVE that kind of
warranty.

I was pretty pleased with the Shimano warranty. I broke the last 4-inches off the tip. I took it to my local Dicks Sporting Goods, they traded me over the counter for a new one. Couldn't be happier with that warranty.
Wow!
The last two posts are VERY impressive, what great deals!

Yep Hootie ALF in Indiana is the only place I would buy a G.Loomis rod. My IMX was replaced 3 or 4 years ago after 8 or 10 years use when I broke accidentally,, but it was my fault and I was abusing it, and American Legacy didn't care what loomis policy was. They replace any loomis rod regardless of age, or how you abuse it, for free, as long as you bought it from them you deal directly with them!! When you are the largest G. Loomis dealer in the country you call the shot's!! If I was going to buy another Loomis rod (which I have no desire to do) I would never buy it from anyone but American Legacy Fishing, they will upgrade any rod also much like the St. Croix upgrade plan, only they do it with any rod make to a G. Loomis, great people to do business with! .

Dicks may do this now, but I want to see what they do 10 years from now and when the rod has changed over that period of time!! Wall Mart will replace a Berkley the first year, but time will tell how Dick's handles them 10 years later.
WOO-HOO!
FedEx just delivered my new replacement!
Scotty must have managed to give FedEx Warp 9.5...
Hope to hear a review of the new GLX!
I love G.Loomis rods.
The guys at my local BPS know me and did an exchange for 3 Shimano rods. They didn't have the models I brought in but let me take 3 that were pretty close and I couldn't have been happier. Let's just say when a relationship ends it's not only hearts that get broken.
I broke a Phenix M1, totally my fault, and told them 100% my fault. Phenix said ship rod ( I pay) in pieces and 65bucks, and they will send out a new one( they pay). I'm pretty happy about that.

It's bad enough that it happened...I wouldn't want to make anyone revisit it to take pics.

That is good to hear!On 6/14/2014 at 9:48 PM, roadwarrior said:AAA, as nice or nicer than any rod I have ever owned.
High sticking gets you everytime, happened to me on a golf course pond excursion with a Cumara when they first came out and the bite was red hot. I had a Cumara and Shimano replaced it under warranty. The 844 GLX is one sweet rod, glad you got a new one :-)!
