What's your favorite braid and why? I think my next purchase will be a high visibility line. I fish mostly soft plastics. I guess 40 lb. is strong enough. I let the Bass Pro guy talk me into 65 lb. braid awhile back. I don't remember what he said, lol, but I bought it. Maybe I'm wrong, it just looks like fish could see the line. But the water I fish is certainly not clear, it's stained. I am also going to try a leader.
I like the round braids like smackdown and fx2. Casts better. Seems to have better abrasion resistance. Thinner diameter.
They are a little pricy, but a spool lasts a long time.
If you are going to tie a leader, I would recommend the Alberto knot. Learn to tie it right. When you break off and at the leader instead of the bait, you are not tying it right.
Original Power Pro, it's never let me down.
All my bait casters are spooled with PowerPro #40, moss green.
I use original Power Pro and have for years, from 20# to 65#.
I have no reason to change

Same here 10,20 and 40. White or yellow. Prefer yellow.
sunline fx2
My favorites are the original and super slick Power Pro braided lines.

That is all my brother-in-law uses and it has never let him down either. My first braid was Sufix Performance. I decided to spool another reel with 40# braid while down there. Picked up Original PP at Walmart. It may not let you down, but I felt it was a lot noisier than the Performance. Personally I think 40# is plenty strong enough. You aren't going to break it using bare hands. If I were going to stronger line, I would go with Daiwa Samurai. I originally picked up some 55# for my flipping and pitching rod. It won't break at 80# (meaning it isn't that strong), but for that reason has a smaller diameter. I picked up a used reel that came with 65# braid. Maybe it was because it was quite old line, but it floated through the air like a parachute. Definitely hurt casting distance.
My braid experience is rather limited. Besides the previously mentioned braids, I have 30# Fireline, 10# 832, 20# Tuf-line Ultracast and I forget the specifics of the Spiderwire line. Only problem with any of them I recall is the Filreline color flaked off bad when I spooled it. Thumb and finger were dark green afterwards. I think you will have a hard time finding a bad braid.
All I use is Power pro #40 and #50. Zero issues.
Stren Sonic. Brian.
I have been using Sufix 832 for a while now, and have been impressed, but I started using Original Power Pro last year, and so far I like it better. On my ultralights I use Berkley Fireline Crystal, and although it isn't very abrasion resistant, I like the small diameters it comes in.
I was not aware of Power Pro's Super Slick. Sounds good, I wonder why anyone would use the original PP.
I like to see my line... hi vis is good. Any disadvantages?
Suffix 832 but Slick8 is on half of my setups too.. both r good
Samurai
"Original" PowerPro in Yellow.
10lb for spinning
20lb for casting
I'll tell ya'... been running braid for a couple years now and although I've switched to Sufix 832, I believe I like Spiderwire Stealth in moss green best.
Josh
Sufix 832 on casting
Seaguar Kanzen on spinning
I like 20# moss green spiderwire stealth for muscling them in or camo spiderwire if I want to be fancy
Honestly I just use whatever brand but I did just respool all my reels with Power Pro Maxcuatro Spectra. We will see how that goes. It's supr thin.
I'm another Power Pro fan. I usually use 50 and 65 in moss green. I like S8S too, it's only downside is that it frays/abrades much easier than regular PP.
I use both Sufix 832 & Power Pro.
Daiwa Samurai braid is my favorite followed by Power Pro Slick 8
I've used Power Pro and Sufix 832 and like them both. Currently I have a BC reel with 30# 832 in Ghost color (white) and another with 30# 832 in Neon Lime color. IMO Sufix 832 is a little softer out of the box and requires a shorter break-in period than Power Pro.
Suffix 832 40 is on a few of my reels that's the only braid I use on baitcasters I use 20 and 30 832 on spinning sometimes
I've been fishing PowerPro for 6 years. It's been good to me, but this year I ordered a spool of TuffLine on the recommendation of my charter captain buddy. He has it on all of his river rods and has used it for years. Good enough for someone that fishes for a living, good enough for me.
Sufix 832 or power pro
Power Pro 15# & 20# & Super Slick hands down! The only down fall with Power Pro is that after many casts & many fighting fishes it has a tendency to fade a little bit, other than that great braid!
I was a Power Pro user for years...switched 3 years ago to 832 and can't believe how much smoother and less "screech" on the guides. I like the 832 in the Ghost color...it never fades because its already white... and I really think I can see it above water better than high viz green/yellow. In clear water, I tie on a fluorocarbon leader. Alberto knot. Works well for me ~
I use Sunline SX1 in 16lb hi vis yellow for just about everything.
SX1 is probably the strongest and toughest but is kind of loud
FX2 is strong like cable, but sounds like a zipper.
PP is the most supple and limp but it gets fuzzy/frayed easily and loses color very fast
832 is like PP + SX1 had a baby that bleeds green... quickly.
Smackdown is probably my favorite tho. It feels more like SX1 in usage but is nice and quiet. Also comes in awesome finesse sizes that daddy likey. Bigtime.
I have used regular Power Pro and Suffix 832. I like the 832 better but I will still use PP because it's cheaper.
Power Pro 65lb, some reels spooled with yellow and some with green. Unless it is a Carolina Rig I use no leader. I honestly don't think the fish care what color your line is.
