i dont know for sure, but i have heard alot of talk about the st croix avid rods on clearance for around that price, plus i think allstar has a model in that range
Where do i go to get an avid on clearance!?!?!?
There's been 1,000 threads at least about Avids on sale.

In the $100 range? Do you mean $100 max, or up to $199 ?

I have one and love it, plan on getting a few more!
I recommend Team All Star IM10 rods. I have several of these and like them very much. These rods are extremely sensitive and very strong. You can spend several hundred more on a G Loomis or some other brand, but you won't get several hunderd more worth of sensitivity.

Add 20 more and get a GL2.

Get a Gloomis GL2 like Raul said.

What does the GL2 offer over the TAS IM10, except price? I like TAS rods and use them a lot. They are extremely sensitive and tough.
Dsaavedra needs to decide whether he wants an extremely good, strong, sensitive rod, or he wants to pay a premium for a brand name.
Shimano Compre is a really good rod for around $100, but an avid on clearance is a great rod for that price.

exactly. g. loomis are too expensive, period. im sure they are very nice and all, but i'll bet the TAS are just as nice and alot less expensive. i cant seem to find the TAS online anywhere except cabelas/bps. i dont wanna order from them because of theyre additional shppping charges on rods.
I would try to find an Avid on sale, or try to become best friends with the guy who owns/runs your local G. Loomis or St. Croix dealer. My favorite rod right now is a toss up between my Avid and my IMX. There are things that I like about each, and each serves a slightly different purpose. A GL2 would be a good option too, but I'm not the biggest fan of the GL2 series. Even at the GL3 level, I'd probably still take an Avid. 8-)
I have to say, Loomis IMO, is a good value in IMX and GLX but the GL2 and GL3 are (again IMO) overpriced and undervalued. I'd go All Star over GL 2 & 3 everytime.
The St.Croix Avid is a VERY good rod, well woth the $160 (+/-) retail offering. The current models are on sale for less than $100 some places, around $110 at BPS. Either way, this is a GREAT value. I would HIGHLY recommend a St. Croix Avid at the pricing point you are considering.

I agree with George 110%.
I have 6 of them and couldn't be happier unless I had more of them. I have a lot of other rods like a couple Airrus, Kistler Heliums, All-Stars, etc... and they are all retired now since I started using G-Blanks.
I would still be very satisfied if I had paid twice the price I did.
The HMX Fenwick would be my choice.
thanks for the suggestions guys. i cant find the avids on sale anywhere. got a link?
If I were you I would go with a falcon lowrider.
And... what about Falcon Cara??? compared to a GL3 (i own 2) its a much better...
Another vote for the Team All Stars. I had several of them before upgrading to AS Titaniums. The TAS rods were excellant for the money.
On sale for $65
These are Bass Pro Shop's inhouse brands:

I was hoping someone would say that before i got to the end of this thread. Falcon makes great rods and if you happen to break one all you have to do is send the broken one in and presto you get a brand new one in about 10 days. i experienced their CS first hand in the spring and i give them a 10.
whats great about those bps extremes? ive had other reccomendations for that rod.i dont see anything so special, except the sale price.
i dont think the falcon is for me. i think the team all star is my best option. im going to the tackle box (local store) tomorrow to look. if i cant fine it i'll have to call BPS and see if they have it, and if they dont i'll be forced to order from the internet and pay for shipping of large items :'(
I don't think you'll be sorry with the All Star.
I would at least consider a Falcon Lowrider. Great rod.
I just bought a quantum PT tour edition rod on ebay last week- just got it today. Got it to the door for $104.95. It is a medium 7'er I intend to use with my 7:1 reel fishing rat'L'traps. I will let ya all know how it is- man my rod collection is pretty diverse now, guess I had to try a little bit of everything.

yeah ive pretty much made up my mind on that rod. my dad said he'd take me up to bass pro to buy it so i dont have to pay shipping

My local BPS (Hampton, VA) only has 1 or 2 on the racks right now. In July they had almost a full row of All Stars. Right now, almost gone. Might want to call them first to see if they have any in stock. Since fall is coming up, they are gearing up for hunting and not putting out a lot of new fishing stuff.
yeah thats what i plannned on doing. it would be a big waste of 3hrs driving to go there and have them not carry the rod.
