E21 And Other Company Issues 2024

fishing user avatartbone1993 reply :

I didn't want to have to bring this topic up but I have seen a trend of people recommending Carrot Stix or even buying them because they can be purchased at many big box stores. Idk if its the color or the name that attracts them more but honestly I hate seeing people fall for them. A friend of mine had his explode on a hookset, not on a snag but a hookset. He caught the fish by hand lining it in, the picture will be posted below. I know rods break all the time but this was right after he bought the rod, maybe even his first fish on it.  Does anyone else have similar pictures or issues with  e21 rods or other companies that just make poor quality rods.

fishing user avatariabass8 reply :

Sorry to your friend about the rod. Carrot Stix have more problems with rod breaking than any other company i've read about.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

A few years ago when they first came out, you could have swore god made them himself, just by reading reviews from all the internet experts. And for about a year after all these instant "experts" were flailing about the lake with them, ready to go pro at any minute, and fishing was so easy for them I heard guys would just walk up and hand them their entry fee money rather than go through the pain and embarrassment of trying to compete against Carrot Stix ninjas. Today that bandwagon is pretty empty. But never fear, every year they seem to glom on to a new "wonder rod" and beat us senseless with post after post after post...........after post..of how great THAT rod is, and how everything you own sucks. All the while guys fishing plain, old, boring rods like St Croix's, G Loomis, Fenwick, Shimano, etc.....(you know, companies that are stealing your money by charging for things like.........gasp......a real warranty, and have a reputation built on years of making quality products) keep on fishing and catching fish on what are obviously junk rods.

I e-mailed Carrot Stix and they don't have a website anymore, just a facebook. They wanted me to send the rod back on my dime (to Canada at that), plus pay 39.95 "shipping and handling fee" using my credit card through E-MAIL. I bought the rod brand new and registered the warranty when I bought it, I still even have the original receipt, and it broke just a few months later.

I'd have way too much money invested in a rod that will probably just break again. If you look at their facebook it's mostly people asking how to get a rod warrantied. Lesson learned, no more Carrot Stix for me.

fishing user avatarTrippyJai reply :

People need to stop buying carrot sticks, they are notorious for breaking, but the real problem is they have absolutely ZERO customer service. If you break it, good luck getting it replaced.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I broke mine and 2 of my buddies broke theirs, all in less than a year of owning them. Getting them replaced costs almost as much as they do new, I'll never buy another unless it's a steal.

fishing user avatarIma Bass Ninja reply :

It's a shame to hear that a company that had a great start completely left its fan base empty handed. They have a great feel and a cool look to get consumers interested. Unfortunatly it seems the quality is a bust and so is the customer service. Could have been one of the best rod company's around.

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

SILLY KIDS, CARROTS ARE FOR RABBITS.

fishing user avatarrdollar80 reply :

I broke mine about 14" from the top. Good news I now use it in the garage to practice flipping and pitching, just sucks that I paid $100+ for a practice rod.

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

A few years ago I bought one of Carrot Stix heavy flipping sticks. I sent in the warranty card and went fishing. On the second fish the rod broke on the hookset twelve inches above the handle on the fattest part of the rod. I called the costumer service number and the guy on the other end told be that because they had not received the card that they could not honor the warranty. I waited two weeks and called back again and was told that they never got the card and they would not honor the warranty. That dang rod now sits in the corner of my garage as a reminder to never buy one again.

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

A lifetime warranty or over the counter exchange warranty like shimano has is really worth the extra money for the rod.

Im glad i havent broken a powell rod because it would cost 60 bucks to replace it through warranty. But i look at it as money saved over the counter and paid when needed.

Youve gotta think that warranty is factored into price and it is worth it. When i was younger i was stingy and did want to spend the extra money, but now i see that companies like Abu, Shimano, St. Croix, Loomis, and more that i cant think of, are definitley worth it. A company that back their product is priceless.

I wouldnt hesitate to buy from any of those companies.

fishing user avatarQuitlimpin reply :

I'm one of the few that hasn't had an issue with E21 rods. I fished one hard and heavy for awhile and had no problems. Sold it to a buddy, and its still at the top of his rotation. That said, I'd be very reluctant to buy another due to the poor service that many have received.

fishing user avatarbarroncooper reply :

yeah they cost me a double digit a month ago and it was a 7'11" x heavy.  I'm done.  never again and i was one that said I've never had a problem with mine

fishing user avatarmtaag3 reply :

I have no experience with these rods but have handled a few in the store and they seemed nice, potentially even worth a future purchase. However after reading this thread and doing some more research, I will not be spending my money with E21 at all.

fishing user avatarGOOCHY reply :

I have a 6'6" MH for my frog rod.  Picked it up on sale last year at Gander Mountain.  It's pretty much a pool cue.

fishing user avatarmnbassman23 reply :

Don't even get me started on Carrot Stix's. I purchased the original series rod 3 years ago when it was 150 dollars. I had the 7'3"mh for 1 month using Pline CX and 5 of the guides had really deep groves in them already. I sent carrot stix an email, warranty money, and 3 months later I had my replacement rod. I then fished that rod for a week and it snapped like a twig. Upon further inspection I noticed that some of the guides were starting to groove on this rod as well. At this point I was ticked beyond belief and sent them a nasty email and asked to speak directly with their product manager. To my surprise a few days later I received an email from one of their managers saying that this was "the first he had ever heard of their rods having issues, and that I could send in the warranty fee for a replacement rod." I replied that I could send him links from plenty of people online that have had breaking issues and that I can contribute to that talk online as well. He then promptly replied that he would send me a free replacement and also send me an additional gold series rod of my choice for free.

Sometimes it pays to call companies out on their crappy products and crappy service. I'll never deal with E21 again..

this is why i didnt pick up a carrot stick for the wife when she wanted one.. if everyone likes it for the looks go with the Lamiglas Excel like i did... great rod and looks almost identical

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

My wife wanted one too! She like the look of it, i said OH NO!

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

many of my salf water buddies were on,the carrot wagon for about six months. after those six months there were nine broken rods. not becuase of abuse either!. they all went back to thier previous favorite rods.

they did feel nice but the quality was not even close when it counted most

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

Id like to know the how many rods that one of the E21 sponsored pros break. Modest weekend worriors are breaking these rods left and right. Just think how many rods break for guys that fish 280+ days a year.

I bet its alot. You would probably have a hard time getting them to tell you that.

I did!! Thags exactly how he got one!!! I use it ALOT.

fishing user avatar5fishlimit reply :

I came close to picking one up last year, but through online research - this site mainly - I didn't, and am so happy I didn't.

It's a shame that a company will put out such an inferior product. I'm sure it's a big reason why Boyd Duckett left them to create his own wonderful fishing rods.

my buddy bought his girl one...that rod is friggin nice! I actually eish the reg avid was that sweet

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

My wife has an Avid Pearl also, very nice rod. I've used it on a couple occasions and it feels great. I wish they'd make a split grip version of the regular Avid.

fishing user avatarHooligan reply :

Keep in mind, too, that E21 was was sold recently and now under the Catronic name. They retained a few people and got rid of many more.

I've had excellent luck with them of late.

Also, on the OT, I'd had terrible luck with the orange rods, no doubt about it. One o the worst rods I've ever fished.

The Wild Black, however has been exceptionally durable. I've got two that I've intentionally abused to the point of no return and have had zero issue. Also, Bass Pro company policy states that they are to honor the warranty for Carrot Stix over the counter. If you're having trouble with that, you shouldn't be.

fishing user avatarchubaka reply :

I've had mines for 3 years now and it's still going strong.

fishing user avatarGrantman83 reply :

Had one and the tip broke on a hookset.  However, my friend down in florida has one and loves it.  Just the luck of the draw I guess though that shouldn't be the case when buying a rod.

fishing user avatarBlues19 reply :

Looks like more horror stories than good stories. Main reason I got my abu was because of customer service. Dude at a local tackle store said that when the carrot fibers dry out, that is when the rods become brittle. Not sure how true it is or not, but I thought it was an interesting observation.

Yeah I wouldn't trust that guy with any technical advice lol. I am pretty sure must rods go into an oven to cure them, I think he meant to say they just make junk blanks llol.

fishing user avatarBenB54 reply :

I've never had a problem with the Micro Guide series. Seems like everyone has trouble with the regular Wild series.
