Hello all. I recently purchased a Pflueger Asaro and am very pleased thus far. I am interested in purchasing another reel this weekend. Any thoughts on another reel under $200? Thanks.
If it is baitcasting : PFLUEGER TRION 100 bucks, get 2 :
If you want a long lasting bullet proof reel you might consider a Shimano Curado. They sell for $200 but have a $50 mail-in rebate going on right now.
These reels have been around for many years and are used by many pros for a very good reason - they are dependable - they work and hold up and do what you want them to do.

I think you might have something there. :

Revo SX
was woundering how long it would take before a REVO is advised ;D
thoughts on Revo SX vs Curado???
Why haven't Pfluegers been mentioned???
Go with a Citica for 69.99 after rebate or if your set on something above 100 than you can't go wrong wtih the Curado for 19.99 after rebate.
I have a Revo S but after a couple runs with it I really would rather fish with my Citicas to be honest. Just my opinion anyway.
Can't go wrong with Shimano.
Pflueger isn't a bad reel by any means. But for longevity and servicability I would pick the Shimano. I have nine Shimanos (Curados, Chronarchs, Cores) and two Revo STX reels, a Pflueger Supreme, a number of older Abu Garcias, Quantums, Bass Pro Shops JM signature models (which I understand are mostly Pfluegers) and some Daiwas. The Shimanos just plain work and hold up. I fish as often as possible and appreciate the value of better gear with good drags and well-engineered features. Shimano is smooth in every grade of reel I ever owned or fished with. There are a number of good reels available for under $200, but years of hard use make me lean toward Shimano. Personal preference.

The posse is all-over this one! Good job...

If you check on that Auction site you might pick up a Daiwa Zillion for around $200. Nothing against the Curado, it is a great reel. I just happen to prefer the Zillion for a couple reasons. The braking system is one, and the longer handle is another.

Could have fooled me I thought the Pflueger Trion, was made by Pflueger

Under $200 opens up a lot of options.... in that price range it appears that other reels are favored. Ask the same question and put $100 limit on it and you'll likely get more pflueger responses.

doubt it... it'd be Citicas instead of Curados....
I have only experience with the Trions, It is my favorite, so I can't post about anything else in the line. They have the Supreme,Patriarch and the President all between 140 and 200 < PM Dodge Guy or JT Bawell, they have experience with some of the other Pflueger Reels .
A lot of Shimano fans on this site.
Pfluegers are great reels. My fishing partner only uses Pfluegers with 8 of the 10 being President's... He also has a supreme. Pfluegers are extremely smooth and durable and I like them. I do not have experience with shimanos. I do not fish for $$ so my most expensive combo retails for $150 (Bionic Blade w/Quantum Accurist). I love the feel of the Accurist. It is not as small as the Revo but not as big as the Pfluegers or 200D Shimanos... just right for me and feels like it will last for many many outings.... my $.02
all in all, at least you are researching before you buy... good luck with your purchase and tight lines!!
i've been using a revo sx for the last few weeks and i love it. i'm still new to baitcasting but the revo allows for a good learning curve. i just picked up a revo s yesterday so now all my baitcasters are revo's and all my spinning setups are pfluegers.
i was looking into getting a patriarch or supreme in lieu of a revo but with the $50 rebate from abu and all the high praise they get, i couldn't pass up the opportunity.
so confused...
I'll give you some good advice. No. Make that Great Advice. Go to the store, handle a few reels. Handle a bunch of reels. Buy what YOU like best. Don't let a bunch of people on a forum tell YOU what to buy. After all, YOU are the one who is going to be using it.

Amen brother
that is the best advice on this thread so far
Nothing wrong with "buy what you like" advice. And I agree. I guess you're back to square one again. Good luck and hope whatever you get works out for you. As mentioned before, there are a number of good reels and most everyone is going to tell you what they personally like. I have some of most everything and like a lot of them.

update...
Thanks for everyone's thoughts. I ended up going w/ a Revo SX-HS. Can't wait to put it to a test.
Quoteso confused...
Buy them all, fish them, keep the ones you like.
i see you already made a decision, but just for anyone else who might use this thread for advice- I would have suggested getting 2 Citicas @ $70 a piece...
The Citica's are killer, but so are the Revo's. My buddy fishes with the STX and accually complianed it was to free........Go figure. Soccerplayer, seeing how your local, if you want to try something out. Just give me a shout, I seem to own a little of everything. You can try it out anytime.

Amen! Then buy the Revo. ;D
Each reel has a benefit. I would say don't just spend as much money as you can. Look at what your are getting.
