What Is Your Dream Combo? 2024

fishing user avataroutdoorsman110 reply :

Mine would be a Shimano Core 100MG7 on a G-Loomis Topwater Cast Rod 7'2" Heavy Action. Topwater Paradise.

What's your dream set up?

Baitcasting, Spinning, and Fly.

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

The one with a 23lb LMB on the end of the line...

fishing user avatarjerzeeD reply :

Spinning... St Croix legend tournament 6'8" M/F with a 35 size Pflueger Patriarch for the reel.

fishing user avatarjerzeeD reply :

Actually , make that tip x-fast.

fishing user avatarNorcalBassin reply :

My personal favorite in an 893 NRX with a Chronarch 50e. Fishes like a dream.

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

A combo that weighed 1oz, unbreakable, and could do every technique perfectly

fishing user avatarthehooligan reply :

A 6'8 medium shimano cumara with a stella 1000 would suit me just fine

fishing user avatar*Hootie reply :

Actually, my dream combo will always be the one I am currently using,

Right now, that happens to be a Duckett micro magic, 6.6 med. Heavy

and a Lews SS tournament, 6.4 1 reel.

Hootie

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

My 50E on my Clarus. It doesnt get any better than that for me.

fishing user avatarj.bruno reply :

Shimano CORE MG50 with a Shimano Cumara 7ft MH

fishing user avatarloodkop reply :

I'm currently saving up for a Cumara shakey head rod and Stradic 2500 reel.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

I have them. St. Croix 7" MH/fast and 7' M/fast Legend Tournaments with Curado 51e's.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

MBR842C/ Core 50MG

BCR893/ Curado 50E supertuned

PR844S/ Stella 2500FE

fishing user avatarJacob34 reply :

I got half of my dream set up with my C.F Burkheimer 2 WT. All I need now is a Hardy Flyweight, or a Hardy Bougle MK VII to pair with it.

fishing user avatarMike__D reply :

Team Daiwa TD-Ito (the chameleon color ones) in both spinning and casting paired with Daiwa Compile-X rods (only reason why I did not put down another JDM product like a megabass or evergreen rod is because I do not know enough about them to select one over the other).

Mike D

Love the looks of those Ito's!!!

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I've got a couple dozen "dream combos." Every time I buy my dream setup, I dream up another that I need.

fishing user avatarS Hovanec reply :

Currently fishing my 'dream' spinning set-up. Custom SCV 6'9" ML/XF with a CI4 2500. But like J Francho said, I have another dream rod on the brain. It's gonna be a SCV 6'10" M/XF extended to 7'2" and I'm gonna put a new Sustain on it.

I don't really know what I'd like for a dream casting set-up.

Fly? You can keep 'em, don't do that.

Center-pin. Currently have a 13' Talon ITM with a silver Islander. I dream of a 15' CTS with a Paine Falls 5" DeMarco in green or olive drab.

Guess what? I believe I have the same sickness as you....

LOL

fishing user avatarCapt.Bob reply :

Depends on the application,

under 3/8oz finess rig would be my St Croix L.E. 6'3 MXF with my Stradic 1000 MgFB 10# F.L. Chrystal, with 6'-8' 8# Flouro leader joined by a Blood Knott, the total weight of outfit 10.1oz

for 1/4 to 1/2 oz finess rigging, and some lighter smaller cranks and inline spinners or (bucktails) St Croix Avid 6'9" MLXF with my Lews Tounament Pro 7:1 w/20# F.L.Tracer Braid with 6'-8' 8# flouro leader joined by a Blood Knott, the total weight of this outfit 11.4 OZ

Both of these outfits used to be my Lake Erie Walleye rigging rods for drifting for Walleye or casting for Smallies,

for most other crankin and spining and deep heavier rigging, my St. Croix Avid 7" MF with a Lews Team 6.4:1w/20# F.L. Tracer Braid and 6' 12# Floro leader joined by a Blood Knott, the total weight of this outfit is 12.1oz

then for heavy salad and timber areas heavy rigging, flipping and such, my St Croix 6'10 Tele. MHF with a Lews Tournament w/30LB F.L. Braid and 25LB Flouro, or 20# Big Game, 4'-6' leader joined with a blood knott. a club at 14.6oz

I do love bass on the fly rod, I mainly use a weedless mouse, on my "you geussed it" St. Croix Legend Ultra 9' 7wt. with a 7-8 weight Reddington LA reel.

I ran my own Charter service on Erie for Walleye, Yellow Perch, and Smallmouth for 32 years, so I was fortunate that now at 58 years old I think I have my dream rigs and don't see anything changing! I retired from Chartering and am now getting back into Bass and Walley on inland lakes with a little Pike and Muskie fishing now and then.

fishing user avatarsteezy reply :

Steez reel on a Steez rod with a 23# LMB hanging on it.

fishing user avatarPineappleWater reply :

LOL +1 for a Steez set-up but I already have a 7'1 Compile-X on a Steez 103HA! Funny thing is my dream set-up would be the new Zillion J-Dream 7.9 ratio on a Steez 7'4 SBD frog rod :) and a 23# LMB hanging on all of it! haha

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I'm pretty well set right now. I went into BPS the other day with every intention of buying something. Looking around at rods and reels, thought to myself, I like what I have and I'm already catching great fish, I don't need or want anything, left with a few bucktails. When the need or desire arises I'm sure I'll buy something, most of my equipment is bought on a whim at the moment.

fishing user avatarLucky Craft Man reply :

A Custom rod built on a G Loomis NRX JWR 894 with a Shimano Core 100MgFV. That would quite a dream there.

fishing user avatarStasher1 reply :

My dream combo? Jamie Eason and a cabin in the mountains. ;)

As far as fishing gear goes, I'm with SirSnookalot. I'm comfortable with what I have, and with the exception of replacing my travel outfit due to breakage, I've pretty much stopped looking at new gear.

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

Come on guys you can at least 1UP goose by making it a 24#

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

I have half of my combo, a vintage Ambassadeur 4500C custom made with new stock parts. Dual level wind bearings, main shaft bearing, no anti reverse, bearing mounted idler cog, Abec 7 ceramic spool bearings, ceramic pawl, carbontex drag. All mounted on a chromed brass frame. No I want a custom made topwater rod with a short straight rear grip, no foregrip, backbone but a very flexy tip. Just cant find the blank.

fishing user avatarBill16 reply :

calcutta TE DC on a Denali norwood rod MH fast. My wife bought them for me. I'm just dying to try it out.

fishing user avatarJason Penn reply :

i've had steez reels before and sold them, but i'm kinda back on a steez kick again. i think what i would like is a 100hsa with a 103 handle.

as for the rod, i would love to wrap my own that has all the detail of the megabass rods. i'm just getting into the rod building, but i can tell it's gonna take me years (if ever) to be able to that!

fishing user avataroutdoorsman110 reply :

Keep it rolling guys.

fishing user avatarRaider Nation Fisher reply :

Already got the reel, a Calcutta TE DC. I would like a custom rod to put it on, just can't afford one right now. If I ever get back to working 40hours again, I'll have DVT build me a Raiders rod to put it on. As for what type, I'm not divulging that info til I talk with him about building it. Wouldn't want some one to Jack my idea.

fishing user avatarCJIII reply :

I just got my dream set up a Abu 4600C3 I need to find a rod for it.

Skip the stradic and go with spheros instead. There a lot cheaper and IMO just as good if not better than a stradic

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Spheros is a decent reel, but it's specifically for saltwater, and the smallest size is 3000. Personally, I find the Stradic more refined. If you want to save, drop to the Symetre or Sahara; they come in 2500 size. You can't go wrong with any of these reels, though.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

The spheros is classified as an "offshore spinning reel", seems obvious to me Shimano means to say "offshore saltwater spinning reel". The 2 reels can't be compared, when it comes to repetitive casting and retrieving the spheros is not as smooth to start and gets that "geary" feeling to it, I have 2 of them a 4000 and 8000. The spheros is a workhorse offshore reel, IMO one can do better for a freshwater reel, hands down is not in the same league as a stradic, I own 2 of them as well. I would not sway anyone away from a stradic if wanting to stay in the Shimano family, a very good freshwater and inshore saltwater reel. All that said, if I were wanting an offshore saltwater reel the stradic would not be my choice, it's not an offshore reel. Staying in the Shimano line up I'd consider the sargossa, same price range and a solid reel.

I've owned and used all of these reels.

fishing user avatarDr. Watson reply :

I think i just got my dream setup, Revo MGX 7.1:1 and a G. Loomis NRX 802C 6'8" Jig and Worm rod.... :respect-059:

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

All my combos are my dream combos. Don´t want more than what I already have.

fishing user avatarrayrock99 reply :

Right now I own my dream combos!

fishing user avatarTourPT reply :

My dream combo would be if Loomis took there GL3 MBR845c, if they even make this model anymore, and added 3 or 4 inches for extra leverage, for IMO such would make a great frog rod. If you must the same in IMX, but really I am talking Frog Rod so IMX or GLX is not needed for such. As for the reel, Quantum Tour PT is all I use for frog fishing and is all I will ever need for such.

One last dream is that someday soon somebody makes a line conditioner that repels the dang cotton that is all over the lakes around here from the cottonwood trees. Man what a pain in booty is it this time of year, having that stuff stick to the line, clog guides and so forth. I will pay whatever is asked for a bottle of such, just please someone make such!
