I'm using a 6'6" ml/f st croix premier spinning rod. 10lb braid on a shimano saros 2500 with a 6 or 8lb fluoro leader. I could probably go lighter on the rod, since those shroomz heads have tiny hooks, but I leave the light power rods to handle panfishing duty and never bring them bassin

For the really light stuff around 1/16oz I use a F1 powered 6'6"F megabass spinning stick. Everything else goes on a 6'8" MLF spinning rod or my plastics BFS stick.

My favorite rod for the ned is a 6'9" mlxf avid. It is sensitive and cast well. I dues my 6'6" mf avid. I worked fine, was better for skipping under docks because it was a little shorter, but the mlxf seemed better for the task. I tried my 6'6" lf avid and it really seemed too light. In a pinch it could work, but definitely not my preference. This year I'm going to give the ml enigma a shot. Seems like it would be a great rod for a ned rig.

You want lighter spinning gear for sure. I usually use the same rod that I use for unweighted plastics, shakey Hd, lighter drop shotting, and lighter Wacky.
1pce, high quality 6'3" to 6'8" ML or Med, Fast or Xfast rod. 2000 or 2500 series reel, spooled with 8lb Tatsu.

I bought a Dobyns Champion Extreme 7'6" medium light spinning rod back on Black Friday clearance deals. Do you think that is too long of a rod? My other choice would be a 6'9" medium light Villian. It's seems like Abu Garcia rods run a little heavier on power though.

Nice rod and I would say the 7'6" would work fine. Actually, I use a 7'6" ML/XF Aetos for my dropshotting/unweighted plastic/finesse use, even though its not the typical. Its nice to have the length when casting.
Yes, the Abu rods are heavier than you'd expect.

i just ordered an NRX 822S SYR to serve exclusively as my ned rig rod. for me, i want the same characteristics of a shakeyhead rod for ned rigs.

I find myself gravitating more toward ML rods for everyday spinning. I have a Lite power XF blank waiting to be built as a Ned Rig Rod.

definitely, i have been using an NRX 852S successfully and the 872s is basically the same rod only longer

So out of a NRX 872s, Dobyns Champion Extreme 7'6" medium light and Abu Garcia Villain ML 6"9" what would make my best NED rig rod?

I had Mike at DVT build a 7ft 4in ML for shakeyheads. Has a good soft tip that works great for the Ned rig. It is paired with a Stratic CI4 with 8lb Invizx flouro.
I highly recommend Mike, his work is outstanding.

I have 2 I really like...the zodias 7 ft..ml is really good ...but the st.croix 6 ft.6 ml in the walleye (eyecon) series is just about perfect for it..

You don't need anything special for the Ned rig. The man himself (Ned Kedhe), uses Mitchell spinning reels older than most on this forum with the bails removed and Shakespeare Synergy rods you can buy from Wal Mart for less than a couple Megabass 110's. If it feels comfortable to you with them, it'll work.
Personally, I've found most any dropshot rod fishes them very well. I personally use a 6' 10" ML/XF LTB with a 30 size Pfluegar Supreme XT and 24lb Gliss with a short 8lb leader.

Ive rigged my Croix LTB6'9" ML/XF casting rod with Daiwa SV105 10# PPS8S with the ned to see how that combo will perform. And have a Cumara 7'6" ML/MF casting to try afterwards.

Medium or Medium Light will work. I tries the 6'9"ML but just feel right. I went back to my 6'3" Diawa Guido Hibdon rod I had from years back. I not sure, but I think it is a Medium. I use straight 7# test Sunline.

Any ML rod with a fast or x-fast tip will do. I've used a 7'1" ML/F Crucial, 6'10" ML/XF LTB, 6'8" ML/F BPS Extreme. They are all more than adequate for the bait. There are so many rods out there that are suitable for this and it really just depends on what feels good in your hands.
