I’m very interested and excited in this new reel. It’s no chronarc or Curado k but man I really like what I’m hearing about it so far. I started fishing shimano reels in 2011 with the six pin centrifugal brakes. Can’t wait to pick one up. I really like the way the new tatula 100s are with the cool spider Graphics and and the t wing system at some what the same price point and was actually thinking of getting one but I just can’t let go of the shimano baitcasters and with this one having everything solid plus six centrifugal brake shoes, I got to have one even though I’m not to happy with the slx logo.
Does the Slx come with different colored brakes like the older Shimano reels?
Don’t know yet?
Should be a pretty solid performer and Fuego CT competitor at $100 msrp. Good to see both Daiwa and Shimano brining the heat to the $100 price point.

Definitely should be a solid performer. With Diawa and Shimano you can rarely if never go wrong.
I read on TT, SLX will have VBS braking, which sounds like the old, reliable 6 pin. No external braking like on the newer Curados.

Yeah that’s true , the six pin brakes were really good. No need for the external brakes.
The problem with the pins was that they would fall off sometimes wile adjusting them.
Does anyone know when the slx will be available to purchase.. I heard that they will have a slx rod and reel combo to purchase that will be a little cheaper than buying the rod and reel separate.. any one know if that is true??
SLX= Citica E and G with fewer vowels. Renamed and cheaper... win

not quite.
I saw it at icast Wednesday..pretty cool , feels really small , pretty smooth.. But , with only 3+1 bearings that means there is a bushing somewhere on that main shaft instead of two bearings unlike every other $99 reel out there.
You also don't get x-ship or cross cut carbon fiber drag washers , it sports the VBS style brakes like found on the old curado e.
If you want a citica , buy a citica , the slx is not it's replacement . (it replaces the casitas and caenan)
The rep told me it's aimed at the younger market.
I have the Casitas and it really is a good reel for $100. When it first came out, it was $129.99 and then it dropped in price to $99. I would think the Casitas would be a more refined reel than the new SLX, which has been stated for younger fishermen. I am interested in the SLX casting rod.

Explain how what you wrote is different than a citica e or g? (Not current model)
VBS
No X-ship
3+1 bearings

slx is the size of a curado 70 , minus the shallow spool.
If its anything at all like the old 50e series reels It'll be a winner. I'm super excited about the reel. Not a fan of the loud graphics, but it definitely looks promising.

You could probably switch the bushing and drag washers out though.

there's no doubt about it..would like to have seen the 2nd bearing on that main shaft though. either way. with the slx rods it will make a nice combo. i'm sure they will sell plenty.

How much is the combo?
It looks like a decent reel on paper, but I hate the enormous "SLX" logo on the sideplate.

$200

The slx logo is shimanos attempt to get the younger generation to try their reels once they do, their probably in for life. Shimano hasn’t really tried to target the younger generation like other companies for example the company that shall continue to remain nameless has bright orange reels with interchangeable parts and the kids want ppl to see what they are using they want ppl to see what their fishing with favoriteusa has also done this with their YouTube signature rods and they have been very successful. I talk to youngsters fishing the bank and theses are the products they talk about. Diawa tapped into that with the fuego and now with the new affordable tatulas shimano realized they had to as well I think the slx is a good place to start many younger kids are wary of trying centrifugal brakes the six pin system is a perfect way for them to understand how easy they work and how efficient they are this will put them in the market of the more advanced brake shoes that the curado k And other more expensive shimanos have to offer.
This is my theory at least. Any how I know I’ll try one for sure!
I am a Shimano fan and can't figure how this reel fits in with the reels they have at the same price point.

Those other reels may go away I'm guessing.
They will probably phase them out depending on the performance of the slx the casitas is an awesome reel but why would you spend 100 bucks on a graphite reel when you can get a solid aluminum frame from shimanos competition diawa ,the fuego, this is where the SLX comes in to take that 100$ market. Shimano has always been very cheapy on there lower end reels anything under the citica was always a good reel but kinda chinky they gave a small taste of their Engineering this is done especially with their spinning reels. Well this is where the SLX comes into the mix finally offering an aluminum frame reel at the 100$ price point.
I have one on pre-order for my 9 yr old son. Looks and sounds too good to be true at that price but we'll see.

Definitely think your son will be extremely happy!

This is exactly how I feel about that as well. But the same exact thing that draws me away is what attracts some. My son fell in love with it as soon as he saw it. He has an Okuma Scott Martin rod that he immediately dubbed perfect for the SLX to go on.????
I bet with some acetone, you could wipe that logo off.

Definitely, I’ve had my Curado K less than a year and the lettering is already coming off. That’s with light use too.

Or a magic eraser.
I was told by shimano at icast this slx replaces the casitas and caenan.

It long over due honestly. Daiwa has has the Fuego CT out for a while at $100 msrp and that is an aluminum framed proven platform with Magforce Z, good braking profile on the spool and 3 ration including an 8:1.
The Fuego has been offering a ton of performance at this price point while Shimano offered up two plastic turds. This new SLX looks like a huge step in the right direction IMO and while it will never cast into the wind as well or skip like a Magfore Z Fuego the reel has a small profile unlike the big goofy Fuego.
So I just heard they won’t be six pin but rather six shoe type brakes which sounds even better!!!
I bet the SLX would be the same size frame as curado K but with 150 size line capacity. Even with no dial adjuster like the K, but with heavier lure I don't see the need of it either. The only downfall I see on this reel is no Super Free Spool which help a lot in casting distance but with shallower spool the difference might be very minimum.
The one that hit my eyes is the SLX rod. I like that very low profile reel seat lock nut, I wish it red accent instead of blue.

I'm thinking of getting an Okuma tcs for my Slx, have you fished with this combo? Does it balance Well? Would you recommend this combo?
Still waiting for the lefty’s ????
such a long wait!
I’m still excited about this reel because my first shimano bait caster was the first caenan the silver and burgundy color one that came out in 2011 this is when I realized what real baitcasters were supposed to work like before this I had a lews and before that I had a pinnacle which was actually a decent reel but that set and forget six pin braking system was my introduction to simple yet extremely ingenious engineering and easy casting. I have never bought another brand of baitcasters ever since.

I love mine! It doesn't cast as far as my daiwas but it's much simpler and easier to use. I give it to my friends to use because I don't have to worry about any issues.

We have a couple TCS rods and they're great for the money. Especially since I got them for under $100 each with an eBay coupon.
Anyone get the first batch of left handers yet?
