I was in a store today and found a diawa steez spinning rod model stz 681mlfsa for 309.00 new , i think i'm going to buy it but the question i have is that before i really got into using good gear i was an ugly stik man and i remember the foam grip getting all distorted after a while , is that going to happen w/the steez handle ?
IMO, three words come to mind when i think "Steez".... Waste Of Money! Buy a St. Croix. For 1/2 the price of a steez, you can own a equal or superior product (IMO)
u should have to worry about that because the steez rods are made of different material than the EVA foam that comes with the ugly stick. Its more durable and alot lighter too!

Are you for real are you just talking out of your butt? Steez is lighter than ANY st croix of comparable action/ power much more detail beautifully crafted sensitive rods and 310 is a steal.
Like i said, in my opinion (IMO). And yes, i'm for real. $310 may be a steal for that rod, but i don't see the point in spending THAT much on ONE rod, unless you could g. The weight cant be by more then an once or two, annd the bass dont care how beautiful your spinning rod, OR how much you paid for it. Why buy one rod when you can buy 2 of an, (read these next three words carefully) in my opinion, equal quality rod from st. croix, or other top name brand. But then again, i've only been fishing for 15 years, what do i know?

and i assume you buy your own gear...................
Doesn't everyone? Look, I have no sponsors, if that is what you're hinting at. I own rods from Berkley, Quantum, Quarrow, Shimano, and St. Croix. All I'm saying is that I don't think ANY rod is worth that much money, I dont care how light or beautiful it is. Fishing is a confidence game, so if throwing a $310 STEEZ is gonna make you more confident, then by all means. But the rod doesn't make you a better fisherman, it is merely an extention of your own two hands. So if you want to go and spend $310+ dollars on a rod, go for it... I just think that you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere.
^ were you talking to me or the other guy, anyways an avid is not the same quality of a steez an that all i have to say if you have the 310$ go for it!
QuoteI just think that you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere.
I can agree with that no doubt, but the way you put it in your first post made is seem like a rod half the price was just as good if not better?
Using that logic, why spend $300 on two St. Croix rods when you can buy 10 Ugly Sticks?
Thats what i said, exactly, followed by, "In my opinion..." Look, you can disagree with me if you want, well and good. Like i said, its my opinion. Im not saying that the Steez is a bad or lower quality rod. But its just that, a rod. I dont think it would help me catch more fish. I feel that i can do better with a lower priced rod. Its not worth the money. And thats my opinion. Chaddy, remember this: Its not the rod that defines the fisherman, its the fisherman that defines the fisherman.
I admit, I would buy it. I figure, it's going to last you the rest of your life, so you'll definitely get your moneys worth in the long run. For most gear I am a cheapskate, but not when it comes to rods. I like to buy the absolute best I can afford. Bait monkey says go for it ;D
lol, hey, if you are more confident in ugly sticks, then go ahead... Ill stick with my St.'s.

Bottom line-
Get what YOU want with the amount of money YOU want to spend. There are no rules, so get what makes you happiest!
Couldnt agree more, it all comes down to confidence.
Using a Steez might not catch you more fish, but I guarantee that when you do catch a fish, it will be more pleasurable than catching a fish with an Avid And that's not at all saying that Avids are not darn good rods.

OK. I disagree with you.
I don't care if you disagree with me. Fine. The steez is a good rod, but it wont make you a better fisherman.

It will make a good fishermen a better angler this has been talked about a lot it's like a car some guy driving a f430 will get smashed on the track to an experienced driver driving an subaru sti or Mitsubishi evolution now give that driver the f430 and no doubt he will be faster on the track.
Ok, i think youre trying to disagree again. In your example, its the DRIVER that makes the difference, reguardless of the car, just like its the FISHERMAN, not the rod. You just agreed with me. Now then, I'm done talking about this, but feel free to debate with yourself.

I never did disagree that the angler makes the difference in fact everyone knows it does, but a better rod can help a skilled angler even better? AM i wrong here

woah easy now
Some folks sure can get riled up over some trivial B.S. huh??? Seems the original question got lost somewhere amidst all the arguing too, huh? Hell if I was swimming in money I'd buy one just cuz I could...seems to be a pretty bad *** rod. Just a broke *** soldier in Iraq here though, happy as all hell to be coming home to a brand new TD Zillion that 4 family members had to throw in on to get me for my birthday. Seriously guys...Why argue about something so dumb???

Great point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mega, you are preaching the "Low Budget" creed and I absolutely agree with you on principle,...but there are a few rods out there that DO have the capability of raising your game. This particular steez is one of them. This piece of refined angel's hair is something to go use before commenting on it. I have always preached "It's not the car, it's the driver", so I know exactly where you are coming from but I have had the pleasure of actually using this rod (redlineroberts) and of all the high end gear in his boat (40+ rods in the mega buck range, lol) THIS rod did not leave my hands for 3 days straight, lol. When I went back there this yr,...which rod do you think I claimed IMMEDIATELY!
Seriously, this one's a winner and for $310,....THE Low Budget Hooker is even tempted ;D
Alright Hooker, I hear you loud and clear. I certainly can't afford it. But if someone else can, go for it. I wouldn't mind owning one. I just can't see myself forking over $300 bucks for one rod, let alone $400. But ok, I'll have to try it one day.... if I ever win the lottery.
Hey Megastrike,
I agree with you, but after the beating you took...I'll just stop here.
Dan
Ya know, all of this got me thinking... If you had to choose between owning whatever high end bass boat you wanted and mediocre equipment at best, or being a non-boater with highest quality equipment, which would you all choose?
Different strokes for different folks. I like hi end gear, it's just my thing.
I'd take the Z22 and the hi end gear megastrike.
Im just saying, IF you had to choose?
QuoteIm just saying, IF you had to choose?
LOL this ain't tackle tour any real fisherman would want the boat
QuoteIm just saying, IF you had to choose?
If I had to choose I'd take the boat. Regardless, fish don't care what I spend on my gear.
I'd take the gear. Fish don't care what I float on. We're picking up bass, not chicks.
QuoteI'd take the gear. Fish don't care what I float on. We're picking up bass, not chicks.
True - but a boat gives you access that not having one does not.

My error. I thought it was a junk boat and high end gear. Yep, gotta have the boat.
Each page is funnier than the previous one. The arguing didn't even make sense .
This is America. If you love it, buy it and enjoy it! It's a beautiful and quality rod.
OK GUYS BREAK IT UP !
I was planning on buying the rod my question was how does the foam handle hold up , every rod i've ever used w/a foam handle has cracked , dried up and fell apart or distorted.
I know it hasn't been out for that long but will i have the same problem w/the steez

I asked the salesman why so cheap? and he told me they only stock the casting rods and this spinning rod special order for a customer that couldn't come up w/the money when it came in so they left it on the rack for 30 was a days and dropped the price that morning that i saw it , i just happened to be in the right place at the right time so i put 100.00 down on it.
Congrads on the rod. I hope you land some monsters with it.
