Anyone have a good experience ordering rods from online retailers? I usually go with Amazon (easy returns and free 2 day shipping), but they don't have what I'm looking for. I'd like to avoid paying an arm and a leg to ship the rod to me (was shocked by the prices at FFO and was all set to order a rod until I realized they'd tack an extra $20 for shipping), and I'd like to avoid dealing with returns due to crappy packaging. Thanks!
Online ordering is pretty standard in 2016. I'd say 85% do it. $20 is normal for shipping a rod. Some online places don't charge though.

Amazon spoiled me completely. Hate paying for shipping anymore, but if it's standard, not much I can do about it. Thanks!
If Tackle Warehouse has what you are looking for & it's over $50 it ships for free. Check with some of the sponsors on here they might also.

Nice! I'll check it out.
Yea Tackle Warehouse will ship rods for free (over 50 bucks but most rods are anyway) and they ship them in very stout tubes.

The man speaks truth. I got $150 in gift cards for tackle warehouse for Christmas, after ordering my rod I had a heck of a time deciding what to buy cause they have so much!
TW like everyone else said.Free ground over 50 bucks or 5$ 2 day shipping! Just unloaded a 150$ shopping cart myself! TW has everything you could ever want and anything that you can't find at BPS or Cabelas. If BPS and Cabelas weren't so close id order TW only.

You had money left over after the rod??? The bait monkey has not got ahold of you yet... Give it time!!!!
I have ordered rods from tackle warehouse, eBay, Amazon, American Legacy, Mel Cottons, Dobyns. I have also ordered some reels and a few rods from Japan. Most are free shipping over a certain value. If they don't hit that value there is usually around a $20 shipping fee. Ebay and Japan sellers are usually seller dependent.
The trouble with Tackle Warehouse is that whenever I intend to order about $8 worth of stuff I end up spending over $50. That price point for free shipping is genius.

Because its pointless to spend 8$ to ship an 8$ bag of senkos. If I'm going to spend 30 to justify the shipping cost I might as well spend the extra 13.Then I get to use my original shipping fee on more lures.

Yup, that's how they get ya! Then the next day you realize you forgot to order something you really needed, like maybe a pack of 3-0 hooks. And there goes another $50!

I just placed an order yesterday.my new cart is halfway to 50 already.Of course because BPS doesn't carry the good stuff in store.TW ground is still twice as fast as BPS ship to store

You've got problems, man! Have you checked out the Bait Monkey Victim Support Group? (Latest Tackle Purchase Thread thread?)

Every time I sit there and fill a cart and think "there's nothing I should need for a while after this order". Then along comes a sale, or a YouTube video, or a thread on this forum....and suddenly the cart is filling back up.
$20 barely covers packing and postage. Whether it's built in or added on its reasonable.

I'm the type of person that likes to handle something before I buy it, so my experience with online retailers is limited. I use Amazon quite a bit because they have free and easy returns. I buy it and just drop it back in the mail if I don't like it. I don't have any experience with Tackle Warehouse...and maybe it's better that way. Hahaha!

I figured as much, but I'm just not used to paying it. Really makes the pricing for some websites seem much less reasonable. I understand they have overhead and costs they have to cover, and I try to support local and smaller businesses when I can, but that's a heck of a price hike.

If you do this and it hasn't shipped yet just call them and add whatever you want to your existing order and it will be lumped in with the free shipping.
They also cover return shipping on everything, no questions asked. There really is no comparison to them.

I made up my mind on a rod to combat the bait monkey. He got his licks in though, there's a box full of plastic coming with the rod ?
ive shipped about 10 rods and have had about 30 delivered and have not had a problem, yet. all in cardboard tubes.
They pack them pretty good.Plus they bubble wrap the tip
Order from FFO with confidence. Their shipping charges are basically just the cost of shipping to you and the discounted pricing more than makes up for it, especially if you catch one of their better rotating sales (like 20% off, or buy one, get one 50% off). I have never had a problem with their packaging, and they throw in free gifts of powerbait and havoc plastics sometimes.

Yup, and when you do have to pay shipping on a rod, it runs about $15. At least it was for me. I've purchase a $75 rod with free shipping. My last rod order required paying shipping, but you don't mind a $15 shipping fee when you get about $360 worth of rods (retail) for a bit less than $135. It is a good thing (for me) their selection has been very low the past couple months.
