yo zuri hybrid line?? 2025

fishing user avatarCamjuno reply :

hey y’all I don’t know if this topic has been done before but I’ve been reading a lot about yo zuri hybrid line,  but I don’t actually know what it is. can anyone fill me in on what the difference between this and other line ?

I just picked up a 2009 aldebaran MG and I was thinking about putting this on my real would that be a good choice?

 Thanks everyone for your time

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Its a fluoro coated coploymer nylon line.  It's VERY strong, up there with P-Line CXX.  I can be a little gnarly to control, like all tough lines.  Definitely want to pretreat the line with KVD L&L.  If do a search here, you'll find it's VERY popular with members.

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

Francho pretty much covered it in his post.  It is my preferred line and if you treat it with KVD afte respooling and before each trip it is pretty manageable.  It is super strong for it's lb test as well.  Just be sure to retie if you are using and try to pull a snag or soemthing.  it will stretch and i have noticed it gets weakened, like any non braid line would.

I switched to Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 6# a few years ago on my 2 spinning outfits (Pflueger President 6930's on 6'6" M/L Cabelas Fish Eagle Rods). All of my fishing is chasing river smallmouth. Love the line. I treat with KVD L&L when I spool it up, and usually the night before I go out and don't have any issues with manageability or anything. I have heard that the higher # rated (10# and up) does have some manageability issues. But I've haven't experienced any with the 6# I use.  It's strong, GREAT knot strength, sensitive and casts well.

fishing user avatarCamjuno reply :

Awesome thanks everyone! I’m going to pick some up this weekend !

fishing user avatarRichF reply :

Gotta disagree on this one.  I bought some #12 last year on sale.  Was looking for a cheaper alternative to fluoro for cranking, since I tend to go thru a lot of line with this technique.  I found it to fray pretty easily.  Maybe I just got a bad batch.

fishing user avatarjbmaine reply :

I use nothing but Yo-Zuri Hybrid ultra soft in #6. Love the stuff.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Yo-Zuri Hybrid is not actually "coated" it is a bonded nylon/ fluorocarbon. I have been fishing the line

for more than a decade and would HIGHLY recommend the line at its pricing point. In recent years I

have moved on to Seaguar Tatsu, but I still fish Hybrid #4 on my main smallmouth spinning rod.

I like Yozuri Hybrid from 6lb up to 12lb. But it can fray when fishing around cover, but it casts well and offers good sensitivity !

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

Compare line by it's diameter. Yo-Zuri is one the few true coextruded line with a complex copolymer core that has a extruded Fluorocarbon jacket and dual process increases the line diameter. Increased line diameter creates more memory and strength for all mono, Copoly or fluorocarbon lines.

What presentations are you planning to use Yo-Zuri Hybrid line for?

Tom

fishing user avatarHulkster reply :

I have been reading a lot about this line too. I currently use Sufix Siege mono on my setups both spinning and baitcasting.

any idea how these two would compare? I hope this isn't considered thread hijacking.

fishing user avatarGrantman83 reply :

Love it.  Wal Mart clearanced it out and I got about 10 big spoils from 6-15lb line.  Sensitive and strong

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

I've been throwing spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, lipless crankbaits, Chatterbaits, & swim-jigs on Yo-Zuri Hybrid 20# for about a year now with no issues.

fishing user avatargnappi reply :

I used Yo-Zuri for a while, and lost enough fish to slipped improved clinch knots that I stopped using it. Going back to mono and braid solved the problem.

fishing user avatartxchaser reply :

Diameter and ABS below.

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

I like the "standard" yo-zuri hybrid line for my baitcaster (as the principal line or as a leader) and the hybrid ultra-soft on my spinning reel.  It can be difficult to find despite its popularity.

fishing user avatarnewyorktoiowa57 reply :

I have had breakage issue with it.

I want to put it on my shimano aldebaran mg and use that for medium sized fineness rigs like trick worms and different kinds of weightless  plastics.

Have you ever noticed that line marketing claims sound a lot like a wine label writer was involved?

I used to use Yo hybrid in 12 # test and found it a very nice casting (baitcasting) line with no use of KVD or other treatments, but found it too "stretchy."

Interesting spectrum of opinions.

"...merges a bold, yet austere bouquet of nylon and fluorocarbon, with textured midtones of strength and sensitivity, a sikly mouthfeel of introverted density, and a long, abrasion-resistant finish."

fishing user avatarBurke reply :

90% of my lines are hybrid (8 to 12 lbs)

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I use to use Yo-Zuri Hybrid all the time on both spinning and baitcasting reels.  Love the line, but it's a pain to find.  The stores around me stopped stocking it, and when I try to order online it is usually on backorder.

fishing user avatarTBAG reply :

I use 6# on one of my spinning reels and plan to try it soon on some BC outfits.

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

I've been using YZ hybrid and ultra soft exclusively for more than a decade, and have never had a single issue with it, in either fresh OR salt water.

Its getting hard to find though...I tried CXX recently and it was ok. Not YZ.....but ok.

Mh rod, curado greenie, YZ 15# ultrasoft, Zara spook. 34" redfish. Like I said, never an issue with my line....ever.

Curado greenie? Like a 300 size? Or 200?

fishing user avatarcraww reply :

Ive used it for a decade as an all purpose line and its been great. Ive probably went through a literal mile of it. BUT the last two spools Ive gotten dont seem to have the strength that Ive enjoyed in the past from 12lb. No phantom break offs or lost fish- but it just breaks a little easier than it should when snagged. I bought two 600 yard spools at the same time from the same place and its almost like its a lower lb test with the wrong label...Its REALLY thin feeling and manages like a dream. To the point Id slap it on a spinning reel w/out pause. Maybe there were some mislabeled spools released, thus the different experiences- I dunno.

In general while I like the 12lb, Ive always wanted something between it and 15, which is huge and much harder to handle. That said going forward its gonna be hard to chase sunline defier off my reels when I need a nylon based line.
