Best Co-Poly? 2025

fishing user avatarChrisWi reply :

I've been looking at trying HI-SEAS this season, but came across McCoy! Both seem great, I have been fishing P-Line all season and I like it but too much memory? Anyone have experience with any of these lines?

Hey Chris-

Have you done a search on the forums on this topic?

There is a lot of information that has been discussed

already on the subject.

There are a lot of us that are Yo-Zuri Hybrid fans, me

included. I'm also a fan of P-Line Floroclear. But I use

both as leaders only, not mainline.

McCoy gets some good reviews, tho I've not tried it.

Give it a try and see if it fits your fishing style!

fishing user avatargramps50 reply :

I've used both Yo-Zuri & McCoys and they are both good lines. The Yo-Zuri seems to be a little harder to find, at least in all sizes.

fishing user avatarArv reply :

I've liked p line the most thus far

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

Yo & Cxx.. Are the line for outstanding abrasion resistance in rocks... I have used both extensively

Lots of users on here that will agree, no line is perfect, you must get use to each line type's characteristics.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

Here is a fantastic new copoly I really love. Very limp and nice mix of characteristics.

fishing user avatarTrippyJai reply :

Go with McCoy and don't look back. I can get P-Line and Yo-Zuri local and I choose to import McCoy and pay the extra shipping costs.

fishing user avatarGoDeep reply :

I like yo zuri. Very manageable, abrasion resistant, and much stronger than it's rated.

fishing user avatarTywithay reply :

The best copoly is Defier. Anyone that says something else is because they haven't used Defier. Out of your choices above, I prefer Mccoy.

fishing user avatarillinifan4152 reply :

McCoy Mean Green. Minimal stretch, abrasion resistant, very supple. Oh and did I meantion very affordable!?!

Not a fan of such bold blanket statements.  I have used Defier...  Not worth the money IMO.

I use McCoy for pretty much everything now.  Switched over from yozuri and haven't looked back.

I can guarantee you that it does not have breaking strength of 19 lbs, it has thickness of a 16.5-17 lb breaking strength line. It handles really well, but no fishing line can perform miracles.

I am going off of their website. I have experience where I've gotten hung up so I wrapped the line around a thick branch and pulled until the hooks bent out. The line never gave once.

Yeah I can see their result, but the two other independent sites that I look at to get some references on shows the line being pretty consistent with strength to width ratio of all of the other lines. Doesn't change the fact its great co-poly.

Is the McCoy knot strength as strong as regular monofilament  knot strength?  I mean, I caught a nice sized bass in the spring from my kayak using eight pound Suffix mono and pulled it up out of the water a feet or two above the knot and the knot did not break.  I know if I was using P-Line Floroclear that knot would have broke.  If I try McCoy I want to make sure the knot strength is as good and strong as regular monofilament.

No issues with knot strength. Good luck trying to break the line at the knot. Won't happen.

Hope so.  I ordered some ten pound Mean Green line from Tackle Warehouse last night.  I'll either try it this fall or store it and use it next spring.

Yo-Zuri

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

i've used both...and like McCoy better.  about the same breaking point.  Imo

McCoy seems to have less memory and handles better.

fishing user avatarRusty Shackleford reply :

Which McCoy, the mean green or extra clear?

either
fishing user avatarTrippyJai reply :

All 3 McCoy (Mean Green, Xtra Clear and Clear Blue) co-coplymer lines are the same except different colours.

I didn't say it was necessarily worth the money. It is without a doubt the best non-fluoro line out there though.
