BPS Titanium 8 2024

fishing user avatarGetJigginWithIt reply :

The spring classic flyer came out and it seems there is a new reel called the Titanium 8. Anyone seen these or possibly have one? Also there is a combo on sale. Lews tournament MB on a BPS Spiral Graphite. Anyone know about this rod?

fishing user avatarcottny27 reply :

The Titanium 8 looks to be a very nice cranking reel.  I'm not a fan the the combos BPS attempts to put together.  A Lews MB on a cheap graphite rod doesn't work for me.

those Lews MB tournament reels are butter smooth

man i was so impressed.. I found a killer deal getting 2 daiwa tatula type rs for 100$ a piece brand new on ebay.

But if i didnt find that deal i would have bought 2 MBs.. they are THAT good feeling

The titanium 8 is a good looking reel. According to the description the titanium is in the paint job on it. So is it just a Johnny Morris reel with a fancy paint job?

And a titanium nitride-coated line guide.

Plus it's the first BPS reel with an 8.1:1 gear ratio I believe... Attractive price point, I might give it a shot.

fishing user avatarcddan reply :

The reel reads like a solid reel it would be great to hear from anyone that purchases one.  I would definitely be interested.  Aluminum frame and sideplates. Japanese bearings? Almost has the look of a lews.  Coincidence or am I seeing it wrong?

No lefty...BPS lost a sale on me

I have always thought the Lews Super Duty looked like a BPS Pro Qualifier, so maybe they share some platforms.

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

@grizzly1654 It has a titanium deposition finish just like the Johnny Morris "Bass Caster" and the previous JM reels before that (Gold, Elite, & regular signature). I've got 4 of the BPS reels with the same type of finish. The oldest is going into it's 9th season and has VERY minimal boat rash. From my experience, the upper end BPS reels have been workhorses and I haven't had an issue with one yet.

might have been a similar frame but pretty sure the PQ came out before the 1st Revo S and the PQ has magnetic brakes, Revo S is centrifugal.  The old JM baitcasters were nearly identical to the old pflueger presidents I believe

Quite the wrong info here.  The PQ, ABU, Lews, Pfluger are all made the same company and rebranded under each name. Look up Doyo in Korea and you will see many of your favorite brands there.

Thanks for the info, I guess that's where all the similarities come from.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Also noticed the Titanium 8 in the flyer, mainly because of the 8.1 ratio offering. I'll probably try one just because I've been wanting to try an 8+ ratio reel without breaking the bank.

Yes Pure fishing makes all of them. Penn as well. and Berkley, But each Bass pro product is made through a different manufacture.. Like their trolling motors are made by motor guide. the PQ was abu.. the JM were pflueger . they take alot of nice products and remake and them sell them in their stores. browning is also another partner for their rods like the bionic . extreme is made by some one else. its a cycle they use, which is why they are able to go down in price. they are all quality products now a day

It's a pretty nice reel for $100. I had the 8.1 and liked it pretty well. Got a great deal on a bunch of Supreme XT's and ended up selling it to another member, but it served me well.

fishing user avatardwardmba reply :

Just saw this, hope you got it. Great reel for cranking.

Unless something has changed, Browning has little to nothing to do with fishing products. Iirc, BPS has exclusive rights to market fishing gear under Browning's name.

You really need to post your sources, because you're simply regurgitating the same misinformation that's been floating around the 'net for years. Working at BPS doesn't mean you know anything at all about their manufacturing and/or sourcing.

Has the Titanium 8 casting rod been discontinued?!

I have the 7'2 MH/F and it's a great, versatile rod. I think I got it for $100 during a sale.

Anyway, are there any more of these rods out there?! I might be interested in buying another... Nothing on the website or catalog that I can see.

None on their website, probably not a good sign. The new Carbonlite looks really similar and for about the same price though. I have one of the Titanium 8 rods, I believe the 7' 4" MH? I tried to sell it locally and nobody was interested.
