Looking for a crankbait reel under $130 2025

fishing user avatarWulf N7 reply :

So i'm looking to finally get a dedicated crankbait reel. I've been using a 6.4.1 gear ratiol up until now but if I use it for more than a hour straight it absolutely destroys my wrist. So i'm looking for some recommendations for a new reel. My only requirements is under $130 and it needs to have a 5 gear ratio. Doesn't really matter to me if it's a 5.1.1 or a 5.9.1 etc, just needs to be a 5 gear.

BPS Pro Qualifier is a good option for half that when they're on sale.

Yeah all my reels are pro qualifiers. I just wasn't sure if I wanted another one of those or branch out and try something different.

Go get a Diawa Tatula they are smooth and have a great drag.  I have been changing all of my reels over to them after I bought two last year and fished them hard.  i presently own five and one Diawa Exceller.  Go here  https://www.amazon.com/Daiwa-TATULA100P-5-4-Medium-Action/dp/B00F5EGFQY/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1467866941&sr=1-1&keywords=Tatula100p  This reel retails for $149 almost everywhere else.

I have a Diawa Lexa 4.9:1 I'll sell you really cheap. I bought it new and got about half a dozen trips before it started making an awful noise and grinding to a stop on the cast. It looks perfect on the outside, just does that about every 10 cast or so :Copy_of_icon_thumleft:

I'll keep that reel it mind. It looks pretty nice. I can't tell from the picture, but is the braking system accessed externally or internally?

I've heard good things about the LFS but then I've also heard it doesn't hold up if you use it a lot.

I recommend the daiwa tatula CT! Love mine!

fishing user avatarOnvacation reply :

I have a Lews BB1 in a 5.1:1 that I bought for crank baits.  Very durable, casts a mile and you can get them in your price range.

I personally just seem to like something a bit faster, so mine is sitting on my kitchen counter while my wife waits for me to do something with it.  Lol.

I have a Curado I Series 200PG, 5.5:1 gear ratio. Reel is brand new in box, and I can do $125 tyd for it. My buddy has a couple and he loves them. Great reel for cranking.

If it's legit (and I have no reason to believe one way or another), snap that up @Wulf_97!

Only selling this low because they go for $140 new on Ebay ..... plus I've already got the 200E5, a gem of a reel. If you PM me an email address/phone number, I can send pics.

ive had mine going on like forever never had any issues with it.  just do the usual maintenance grease here oil there the thing has been bullet proof. honestly i swear ive had it going on at least 7 years if not 10 years.  i also fish quite a bit, at least twice a week but usually more from ice out to freeze up.  it was my first bait caster i ever purchased so its definitely took more abuse then other reels i own

I also have a BB1 that I use for Crankbaits and it took a minute for me to get used to, but I've grown to love it.  It casts extremely well and is a surprisingly smooth reel for less than $150.

The Lfs design reels haven't been out that long. 2 maybe 3 years. They replaced the regular speed spool reels

fishing user avatardsqui reply :

uhh ya they have i have a ss1h lfs and i bought it when st croix debuted the mojos what ever year that was

fishing user avatardsqui reply :

it might not be the exact same as what is out now because things change as years go by but all in all its there 100 baitcaster if anyhting they should have gotten better

Sorry I didn't respond until now. Been busy as of late. I ended up going with a Tatula but I really appreciate the offer man.

fishing user avatarMosster47 reply :

If you can find a used Revo Winch or a Lews Super Duty 5:1 ratio I'd go with that.

I can barely even feel 10XD's on my Super Duty.

If you aren't throwing magnum cranks the Orra Winch is a great reel at a great price.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

The Tatula in the 5.4:1 is the best reel in that price range. The 5.2:1 BPS Pro Qualifier is the best sub 100 dollar reel around. Sometimes you can find a Curado on sale for around $130, and they are worth every penny, better than both the PQ and Tatula.

fishing user avatartje0705 reply :

You can get a lews bb1 on eBay new for 125$ with free shipping I've got one in 5.3:1 and love it. Or for 26$ More you can get the bb1 pro for 151$

The LFS Speed Spools have been out only like 2-3 years.

Lews has had a $99.99 Speed Spool for a long time but the LFS series of reels from Lews just came out recently.

+1 on the Lews BB1.  They are the longest casting reels I own and come in the low ratio you're looking for.  I bought one when I was looking for an inexpensive cranking reel and, after using it for a season, picked up another.  Great reel for the money!

Tight lines,
