Line for pitching/flipping 2024

fishing user avatarLEWITH reply :

If you had to use one line for pitching and flipping what would it be and what pound line? Reason I ask is I only have really one rod dedicated to pitching/flipping and I dont know what to get on it.

Thanks!

fishing user avatarBass_Fanatic reply :

If you pitch and flip grass, it would be 65lb suffix 832 braid. If it's mostly wood and rock it would be 20lb sniper floro.

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

50 lb Power Pro braid.

fishing user avatarLEWITH reply :

with braid line and using it in clear water do I need a fluro leader? I just have no confidence in tying a leader on the only knot i know is the Alberto and I really have no confidence in the knot holding.

Some people will say a fluoro leader is necessary in clear water, some say it isn't. I'm not convinced either way, but I often tie on a 6' 25lb fluoro leader just for the confidence while flipping and pitching. Either way, getting good at tying leader knots is something I highly recommend. Leaders can give you an advantage in a lot of situations, and having confindence that it won't break at the knot is huge. I have 100% confidence in my leader knots and can't remember ever having one break on me.

fishing user avatarSmelter96 reply :

If you're worried about your knot failing, put a tiny dab of super glue on it.

fishing user avatariabass8 reply :

I would rather use heavy fluoro in grass than have to use braid in wood/rock.

20# shooter

fishing user avatarLEWITH reply :

So go with 20# fluoro? Looking at seaguar abrazX

fishing user avatarlakeannaangler reply :

AbrazX is a good line for flipping and pitching. I use braid and 15 or 17lb fluorocarbon leader

fishing user avatarYudo1 reply :

I use 50lb braid sometimes with and without a leader.

fishing user avatarMr Swim Jig reply :

Braid is your best choice and I would use Daiwa Samurai braid in 55lbs test, I am not a fan of using a leader.  If you are worried about fishing in clear water then I would use Seaguar Tatsu or AbrazX line in a 15, 17 or 20lbs test.

fishing user avatarBassThumb reply :

55 lb Seaguar Tatsu or straight 20 lb Daiwa Samurai is what I like the best.

I use the fluorocarbon around areas where the fish may be able to see the line, and the straight braid around thick grass.

fishing user avatarcrypt reply :

50 lb. power pro super 8. no leader.

fishing user avatarTxHawgs reply :

50 or 55lb Samurai, FX2 or Smackdown and 20lb Sniper fluro leader.

fishing user avatarKrevo81 reply :

I would just run straight 50-65lb smooth braid from any company and mark up the first few feet with a permanent marker.   I mainly flip and punch dense vegetation and the water is almost always stained.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

Will you be fishing around rocks?  If so, then I'd back away from braid.  Rocks are like kryponite to braid. Seaguar Flippin Fluoro would be your best bet.

I don't use leaders.  Knots are a pain, another point of failure, and don't go through the line guides well.  They're just a hassle, in my opinion.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

65# or 80# original Power Pro. Thinking about trying Seaguar new flipin braid tho. The black color has me intrigued. No leader ever.

fishing user avatarDan_the_fisher reply :

I use 20lb maxima ultragreen mono, the stuff is a absolute beast. It will pull fish out of anything. I also throw big swimbaits on it and have never broke anything off on it. With a double uni

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Seaguar Tatsu if I'm fishing anything other than grass. Seaguar Flipping Braid if I'm fishing grass.

I like 15 but you can bump it up to 20 if you're fishing bad stuff.

fishing user avatarSDoolittle reply :

17 lb XPS fluorocarbon

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

I stick with 50 lb braid regardless of where I'm fishing.

I'm thinking of trying the Flippin braid. I'm curious, other than the color what is it that you like over whatever you were useing before.

Thanks

It's a very small diameter and seems to stay round and tightly wound very nicely unlike other lines I've fished. It doesn't seem to dig into itself when it's put under high strain like some other lines I've fished either. The color is a nice bonus too.

fishing user avatarLEWITH reply :

can you use this flipping braid without a fluoro leader? or still suggest putting on the leader?

fishing user avatarpapajoe222 reply :

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned mono. With the short length of line used in flipping, the stretch and sensitivity aren't  a factor. If it gets nicked and that goes unnoticed, it still retains a good portion of its strength and Visibility is minimal.

For flipping, I don't feel the type of line is as important as it is with other presentations.
