I like to Jig fish a lot these days. I swim them, pitch them, skip them and flip with them.
I use two rods. An older USA made Eagle Claw rod MHF 1/4/-3/4 and a Lews CST MHF 3/8-7/8.
Add which jig style and brand you prefer to use for different targets with or without a trailer and trailer styles and brand.
I want to narrow down exactly which I should stick with. I generally throw black, black blue or black red. I use strike king trailers.
1... Lews magnum custom speed stick 7'2" heavy/fast
Lews tournament mb 8.3.1
3/8 oz DandL baby advantage jig okechobee craw, green pumpkin, black and blue
Netbait paca chunk
This does everything I like to do with a jig.
I don´t have any bait/technique dedicated rods, all my rods are general purpose, if I´m going to fish a 1/8 oz jig then I tie it to my ML or M rod, if I´m going to fish a 1/2 jig then I tie it to my H rod. It all depends on what and to where.
Can I just say too many?
Crucial CRC-X610MH
6' 10"
Medium Heavy Extra Fast
1/8-3/4 oz jigs
Santone Rayburm Swim Jigs 1/4-1/2 oz
Just started using these, so far awesome
Terry Oldham's
Trailer Hitch 1/4-1/2 oz
Eye Max Jigs 3/4-1 1/2 oz
Best grass jig ever
Looking a new rod for the Eye Max
I actually have 2.
A Champion 734 for general jigging, and a Champion 736 for heavy jigs and flipping applications when fishing the slop in the Glades....
How many?...3
Why?...because.
Hootie
I have a lot of 4-5 power rods so which ever one I grab to tie a jig on becomes my jig rod
Dobyns Champion 734 or 735 depending on cover.
Usually either have a finesse jig with an excite baits raptor chunk on or an arky head.
I have 5 or 6 rods that I might throw jigs on. It just depends on cover, jig weight and open rods available.
As predominantly a co angler I have 1, 7' 2" Mh/F Allstar ASR.
Mike
There are rods other then jig rods???......lol
A couple,
DX745
DX744
NRX893
734C- swimjigs
I'll also bring the 735C along in the fall when the jig bite gets a little crazy. As for jigs/trailers nothing but North Star Custom Baits/Zoom Super Chunk/Jacall Darts Hog
Oh and the 763sf&764sf also have tube jigs tied on

Duckett Micro Magic 7'3 MH/F with a Lews tournament pro 7.1:1 with 16lb sniper
right now I'm really liking the Missile Jigs Ike mini flip in 3/8 and 1/2oz
Basstek tungsten fball and flipping jig in 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4oz
Dirty Jigs swim jigs in 3/8 and 1/2oz
I like a green pumpkin, brown, black and blue and with the swim jigs I have mainly shad colors
Rainshadow Revelation 7'6" MH - 1/2 oz. football jig
Rainshadow Eternity2 7'6" MH - 3/4 oz. football jig
Rainshadow RX7 7'6" H - 1 oz. football jig
Rainshadow Revelation 7'6" MH - 3/4-1 oz swinging jig
Rainshadow RX7 7'6" H Flippin Stick - grass jigs in mats
Rainshadow Immortal 7'6" MH - flippin jigs around wood
And yes I have two of the same build, probably gonna have three here soon lol
Most often I have two jig rods on deck. One (a 7'6" M/H) will always have an Arkie style jig, either 3/8oz. or1/2oz. tied on. The other could have a swim jig, shakey head, football, or stand up style depending on my game plan for the day. I'm not brand loyal, but when it comes to a plastic trailer Rage Tails have taken honors the past few seasons.
Two...for now. NFC 709 HM and TFO 7'MH (best jig skipping rod ever)

My main jig rod is a megabass xx perfect pitch. This rod also serves double duty as my frog rod.
I use two, for the most part. A Daiwa L&T, 7' H-R, and a St Croix LTB 7' MH-XF. Both are paired with Zillion reel, spooled with 14lb XL. Both will cast a 1/4oz jig/trailer, and both will cast a 3/4oz jig with trailer. Both are about the same in terms of power, or backbone.
The difference is the taper, which determines the application. The LTB is a true XF action, while the Daiwa is a regular action, which translates as mod-fast.
I use the Daiwa for pitching, because a mod-fast action is a LOT better for pitching. I also use this rod for swimming jigs. The slower action results in more hookups. If I'm only going with one jig tied on, I use this rod.
When I have two jigs tied on, the smaller one goes on the LTB. It's a better finesse jig rod than the Daiwa. This rod usually has an Evo Shaky2 jighead tied on; 3/16 - 5/16oz, with a Space Monkey, Rage Lobster or 5" GYCB hula grub.
I'm not what you would call a discriminating jig afficiando. I have some Arkie style heads for general use, some football heads for rocks, and some swim types for swimming and weeds. I will discrimate in one case. The Damiki Mamba jig is the best I've ever used for fishing rocks. It gets hung up far less than any other.
As far as colors go, I keep it simple; black with blue for dirtier water, and brown with orange for clearer water.
Rage Baby craws for the smallest jigs, Lobsters for the largest, and regular Rage craws for mid range weights.

Good reply ghoti.
Check out what Dave Lefeber has to say about jigs. Here's the link: http://www.in-fisher...alks-bass-jigs/
I'm getting very serious about jig fishing. My goal this season is to be able to throw them in any situation. I'm going to want job specific jigs and at least 2 more jig rods and reels to accomplish the goal. I'm interested in learning more about this rod.Has anyone handled this GLoomis rod?
G. Loomis GL2 Jig and Worm Casting Rod GL2 724C JWR Now we're talking short, efficient power stick. When the cover is close and heavy you need a rod that can flick a jig or plastic worm under a bush accurately and pull the bass away from that jungle in a hurry, this is it. It's rated for up to 20-pound test and has more than enough power to handle big baits and big fish. A really good choice for big topwaters around heavy cover.
I think skirted jig for this question and those go on a *** *** 7'3" MH casting. If you want to include shaky head, ball jigs and even tubes those go on a 6'7" M spinning.

I bought 6 more bags of tubes and #3 & 4 Eagle Claw Tube hooks not long ago. I'm using them with a 3/8oz bullet weight pinned to the line at the hook.
I was pitching them Saturday. No Luck. I did catch a nice bass with a jig and trailer though.
Just 1.
I find it hard to handle 2 rods at once.
I honestly just started fishing with jigs this year on a regular basis. I used my Revo s on a 7' Lightning Rod. The only reason most fisherman out here flip jigs is to target the larger smallies when we find schools.
I haven't really invested good money in a nicer baitcast rod yet but have my eye on a couple Fenwick and Dobyns that I might cash in on.

Those are custom blanks right? Must have cost a fortune! Bet their worth it on the water though......very jealous.

I have a lot of jig rods too many to list, but my main rods that always have a jig GLX 894C, 854C, 853C and a Cumulus 7'2" MH/XF.

I haven't really invested in many technique specific baitcast rods but have my eye on a couple. Fenwick and Dobyns in peticular seem like a fit for my wallet and style. Would like to pair a couple with some of the Lexa on sale at TW.

They are customs, but you would be surprised at the price of a custom vs a manufactured rod such as Dobyns. The difference is not as much as you think, if any at all. Plus, you get to make the rod exactly how you want it! Shoot me a DM and I can get you hooked up if you are interested!

I like my loan GL2, but for the price if you're buying new especially there are better rods for Jig and Worms. They aren't the best rods for it imo. I have a 893C and use it for spinnerbaits and swim jigs. For bottom contact I'd rather pay for a Fenwick Aetos.

surprised to read this, Thought G Loomid was higher end. I'll look to see if Fenwick offers a 6' rod.
They don't offer a 6' rod. That's the problem I've been up against. Seems like G loomis is the only good builder that offers one.
I have 8 different rods I use for jigs for one reason or another. They're all either St. Croix LTB's or Academy Ethos rods.
