If you could have only one spinning rod & reel setup
what would it be & why ? brand, action, length, etc.
I really like that Loomis has specific length and actions for different techniques....I just picked up the 6'10 shakey head rod. And paired that up with a Pflueger Supreme spinning reel....
If I had to chose only one rod though it would be the 7'4 bronzeback series rod. It would be perfect for tubes, which is what I plan to buy it for, but also for lots of other soft plastics.
I may even pick up two of them one for tubes, and one for drop shotting...
The Pflueger Supreme has the best combination of bearings, smoothness, drag, low weight, and line pick up than any other spinning reel out there.
These are my thoughts on "Getting Started"

I have the very rod you speak of, and I love it... Skips tubes great too.
for me it would be the 2500 Stella on a 7'1 mag bass GLX.
Dobnys 702S ML / Stradic 2500
If I could have only 1 rod and reel all together, this would be it.
Shimano stradic 2500/ 7 ft M power ST. Croix Premier
can use it for all of my spinning rod techiunques-senkos,flukes,tubes,drop shot, shakeys

x2...I love this rod. I have it paired with a Pflueger President (great reel for the money)
I am in love with my Shimano Crucial 7'2" M. Daiwa Tierra 2000. It's a good combo around $200. I"m sure there are better combo's out there, but I have no complaints with this one.
I am partial to my Loomis DSR820S GLX and Shimano Stella 1000FB.

The spinning tackle listed below is a "mid-end outfit", but to upgrade the quailty by 50% would probably cost about 100% more.

Shimano Sustain 2500 and a St.Croix Avid 6'8'' M x-fast. I fish mostly soft plastic now and this is about the easiest set up I have to use.

Shimano Stella on a Loomis Shakey Head rod....those Stella's are soooooooooooooooo nice. At one tackle shop, the guy wouldnt let me touch it! He said, "Give me your credit card for collateral, and I'll let you try it out." Well I had no credit card, so it ended their.

Shimano Stella 1000FB
St. Croix Avid AVS66MLF
8lb P-Line CX Premium
the reel would be the new stradic and the rod would be a 6-9 medium Deep South rod-> it's new on the market. very sensitive and light
I'd do the megabass destroyer 68x with a bridged butt and a custom exist steez with sunline braid.
Only one?
Shimano Stella on a Loomis.
6'6 med-hvy avid
shimano symetre 2500
20 LB power pro.
I use this for skipping docks mostly which is probably 75% of my fishing early in the season. if I could have anything i would probably go with
6'6 med-hvy g-loomis GLX
shimano sustain 2500
20 LB power pro
problem is you can buy two of my setups for the cost of my "dream" setup.
My dream spinning setup is a Shimano Sustain 2500 on a G.Loomis BSR803 GLX. I am saving up and working alot of overtime in the next 2 months to get this and a new kayak. Right now my favorite is my Shimano Convergence 6'6" Med and Shimano Symetre 2500, which I am finding hard to beat.
Steez spinning rod with a Stella 3000.
GLX 820s & daiwa fuego 2000
G. Loomis GLX PR844S/ Shimano Stella
8-)
Sol 2500 and Legend Elite 7ft mhf.
Since money's no object I'm going with the G Loomis Bronzeback GLX 6'10" (SMR822S-SP-GLX) and a Shimano Stella 1000FB. While we're at it can I put together a new boat package too?
Not to sound cliche', but I'd also take a Stella 3000FD on a 7'1 M GLX. I mean for a little over $1k, how could you possibly be any happier?

x2, or +1, whichever you prefer 8-)
Only one spinning combo ! would be a 6-6 to 7ft med/fast or xf.
Presently using an Avid 68MXF with a Daiwa Capricorn (the old, silver one) spooled with Tectan Premium 0.25mm, second spool Power Pro 15lb...
I don't feel any need to upgrade !
Lamiglas XPS 702X and Team Diawa Advantage 2000A
(6'8)Steez SVC 681 ML Spinning w/ 2500 Steez Reel......I love this set-up ...I can feel a fish fart with this rod!!!
If were talking what i own then i would say Abu Garcia Cardinal 503 ALB and Fenwick HMG 7' M/F. If were talking ANYTHING i would say Abu Garcia Cardinal 802 and probably a G Loomis mossy back 6'8 M/F.
