Hi-Viz Yellow Line 2024

Thinking about trying hi-viz yellow line on a spinning rod I use for some finesse pond presentations. Tired of not being able to see my line. The ponds I fish typically are muddy, at least somewhat, and a 20 lb braid should have a thin diameter, somewhat offsetting the line color. Does anyone feel convinced I'm throwing away money or fish?

Unless you can catch fish without any line, you're not wasting money or costing yourself fish. 20Lb hi vis braid is pretty much the standard for spinning tackle.

I’ve got 15lb braid on my spinning gear and have no issues catching fish with it. However, I’m not using high vis braid. Mine is moss green Power Pro. Sometimes I have time to tie a leader on the night before, and sometimes I don’t. So, I figured the moss green was the way to go. I can fish it without a leader and have confidence that it looks like just another piece of grass underwater, or I can tie on a leader and feel like it’s even less noticeable.

Been fishing yellow power pro on my spinning rod for a good number of years now. I prefer ten pound as in the past I would not use over 12# on my spinning rods anyway. Ten allows me to cast a bit farther and since I mostly use leaders
(double uni knot) life is good. Usually use leaders of 6# to 12# with good results.

I saw a video on YouTube that shows hi vis pink becomes invisible underwater. The guy tied different colored line to frame and dove in. Surprisingly it showed hi vis pink becomes invisible almost immediate and hi vis yellow is the next to disappear with green and red never disappearing just turning black. Ever since I saw that I switched to pink Gliss 20# line and tie straight to the bait. I don't feel I have dropped in productivity and it helps with watching my line.

I use high vis orange #20 braid and a few feet of #10 Big Game mono all the time in shallow gin clear water fishing docks early season. I have no problems. It really helps with the subtle bites where the fish grabs the bait and swims off to the side.

If you are really concerned about the fish seeing the line but you want hi-vis so YOU can see the line the simple answer is to use a leader. I used to flip and pitch (with a baitcaster) using moss green braid and had the same problem seeing the line move sideways. I switched to 40lb Suffix in hi-vis yellow and I use an FC leader on the days I start feeling like the fish aren't biting because they see my line.
If you are using a 20lb braid for "finesse" you might concentrate more on what weight stuff you are dangling and what braid you will use to dangle it. Keeping a 1/15oz Ned rig on the bottom with the wrong 20lb braid might prove difficult. For tubes and light jig heads/shaky heads/Ned rigs, etc. we use spinning gear with 10lb braid. Specifically Suffix 832 because it's neutrally buoyant. Many braids float.

^ as stated above (Sorry guys, used up all my likes on another topic) you’re on the right track Sifuedition regarding yellow braid. I have 20lb yellow PowerPro on my senko rod and 40lb yellow on a couple of t-rig rods, using an Alberto knot to connect a flouro leader. I went with the heavier braid due to the heavier pound test flourocarbon leader.
Due to the conditions when steelhead fishing in the Pacific Northwest, guys use fluorescent green or chartreuse Izor line for the same purpose.

A friend uses high vis yellow or chartreuse/green line, he tells me the bass can follow it down and find his lure easily. You can’t keep from laughing and he catches bass.

I did see that Vicious is offering a Navy Blue Braid. I don't know exactly how blue will work but I am thinking of trying in in the spring.
I have seen lighter blues for saltwater but not sure about a dark navy blue.

I like to use the hi vis braid also. It helps me see the line better. I do like to use a short leader. Don’t know if the leader helps or not but it makes me feel better.

I use hi vis pink KastKing Super Power on almost all my spinning rods. Clear or dirty water doesn't matter, I catch fish with it.

Should be ok unless you are fishing super clear shallow water. I have used bright orange line and had success on topwater but anytime I threw it deep, nothing. Plus you can always add a leader

I only use Hi vis braid, but use a leader in all situations. I do not mind the extra work, because the line is so much easier to track to detect bites. It also keeps my friends and family from casting over me more often!

I always hate bringing this up.....
but my buddy always blackens the braid 10 feet up from the hook.
He even cut a V into a fat magic marker.
Now we tell him that the fish can smell the marker, so he needs a scent!

Here’s an option... no need to tie a leader, plus it sinks more uniformly than a braid mainline plus a leader. Just tie your lure at the end of a 30 inch clear section. You can see it on top very well. I use 16 lb for Flukes, Caffeine Shads, and Senkos. Fairly finesse, not at all just for flipping... although I wish they also made it in 10-12 lb test for really clear water...

Jordan Lee uses Pink braid exclusive on all his braid reels as well. That was another reason I decided to give pink a shot.

Does the color retain well, or do you see fading with the line?

It's stayed very well with the line I've been using. I've used it on several reels for almost a full season now and it's still very pink.

I use Gliss which is a non traditional "braided" line. The color holds up well on it compared to most braided line.

If you can get by the "zaniness" of this speaker he offers some personal experience with pink line.

Sunline Siglon F comes in pink and orange. I use it on my kokanee trolling rods and love it! Going to give it a try for winter steelhead.

I use 10lb yellow braid on my spinning set ups. Straight braid for reaction baits, but I do use a leader for more finnese applications. Seems to work well, but the color will fade eventually.
