Thoughts on Seaguar Red Label fluorocarbon 2024

Reading the reviews on TW people seem to think it's great or hate it. There doesn't seem to be alot of middle ground. I was looking at the 12-15 pound range for crankbaits. Any thoughts?

I have used it and didn't care for it. It just has too much memory and was too stiff for my liking. You may be OK using it for crank baits. It sure won't hurt to pick up a spool and try it for yourself and see what you think.

I've used a lot of it, from 6# to 15#. I think it is a very good line for the money.

Best value in FC in my opinion...I actually prefer it over some other more expensive and popular lines..

Works fine for me. I use 15lb and 20lb. The 15lb for spinners jerkbaits and light Texas rigs. The 20lb for flipping and pitching.

This line has a lot of memory but it's not bad if you douse it in line conditioner often.

It's my favorite budget fluoro. I don't use it for cranking, but it's worked fine for me.

Tried a couple spools of 10 and 12 pound test, and I couldn't do it any more. Even as a leader, the stuff is just garbage in my opinion. I'm a seaguar fan, but the Red Label I just can't do. I since switched to Yo-Zuri fluoro leader material and have never looked back. That is some good stuff.

I use it quite often and it is a great deal for the price, but I agree it does have a good amount of memory. I too am on the everlasting quest for Fluoro with minimal memory...

I fish 12 lb for cranks and traps..just recently bought silver thread fluorocarbon and love it , just a few dollars more.

Good stuff, but not very abrasion resistant. Does fine for me in 10# in open water. I like it much better than Sunline's budget fluoro

Horrible main line for me, but worked as leader material. I had many line breakages ranging from small kinks from a backlash to no apparent reason at all. I heard there were some bad batches, sent them an email 2x, never got a response. I am using their invzx based on user recommendations with no problems, but I ask myself should I have bought it after the previously ignored emails.

I hate fluorocarbon as a mainline, no mater what brand/price point. But I almost always fish braid with a leader, and Red Label is my go to leader material.

I use 15lb on a few of my setups. I had to switch to tungsten with inserts because the line would fray without inserts. it frays occasionally and i make it a point to check my line often. I can't remember the last break off I had, so it's a strong line. I use conditioner and it helps with memory. I change out my line between tournaments so as its usually fresh. I get a 1,000 yds spool from TW during christmas sale an save some $$$

I have never used 12-15# Red Label but I've been using 10# on a baitcaster for awhile now. Before this I tried Invizx, Abrazx, Sunline Sniper, and Gander Mountain FC and had good luck with all of them but finally decided to try Red Label because I can get a 200 yard spool at Walmart for $11. I use a small reel and can spool up twice with this. I use KVD L&L and I've never had any line management problems.

Not at my local Walmart though, they sell only 200 yard spools. But that works for me. I can fill my reel twice and still have some line left over to use for leaders on my spinning rod.

I found a 1000 yard spool of 15# on Ebay for $45 plus $3 to ship. That's even cheaper than the TW sale. I'll give it a shot.

Make sure u use some kvd line conditioner when u r spooling, it help with the lines memory issues.

Why don’t you use it for cranking? And how would you compare the memory to pline Cxx because everyone says it’s got a ton of memory?

I like 12 pound P-line CX for cranking. I wasn't a big fan of that Red Label. Definitely a lot of memory issues.

I’m using the pline cx rite now aswell on a few set ups I like it hardly any memory. I was just wondering about the red lable because it’s only ten bucks at Walmart and if it’s worst than cxx on memory than I’ll pass but seagar has got a good reputation so I just kinda want to try it?

I don't like it. But I also didn't put line conditioner on and do a little dance and whatever else makes it work for others. If P-line CX worksfor you why change?

I use copoly for cranking for the abrasion resistance. Red Label has less memory than CXX, but memory isn't a big deal with a moving bait.

while trying to save money I tried 12 lb and 15 lb red label last summer. I did not have much luck with it. it had a lot of memory and after losing several fish to breakoffs, I gave up on it.

sunline sniper is my favorite flourocarbon. I also occasionally use berkley 100% flourocarbon.

I made the mistake of buying a 300 yard spool of it... I've given fluorocarbon a lot of chances. I just cannot like it. Red Label cut the heck of my finger once, so my opinion of it is the same as other fluorocarbon I've tried so far: meh. Too thick, too much memory, too hard to tie and deal with. I'd rather wrestle a bear or an alligator than try to wrestle Red Label into submission.

I have used it for about a year now (12 lb). I fish just a few times a month, but it has worked well enough for me. I think it is worth a try for you.

@Burro I replied to this original post back in 2016 and my opinion of Red Label in 10# test still hasn't changed. For the Walmart price of $11/200yd spool it's the best economy FC out there. I can spool my small baitcasting reel twice and still have some line left over to use for leaders on my spinning rod. I use KVD L&L and have NEVER seen any memory issues or line management problems. However, I've never used 12# or 15#, only 10#. The only complaint I have is Red Label isn't very abrasion resistant so I check my line and retie often if necessary.

Ive tried the red label and it was ok to me. It didnt seem to last as long as invisx or abrasx as far as abrasion or memory goes, even with regular use of kvd line conditioner. I just watch for sales on abrazx for cranks, and invisx for everything else but leaders. Leaders i will only use blue label leader material.

I've only used it 17# size. It was manageable, using KVD L&L, but not my favorite. Id you can afford it, go with Invisx. Much better all purpose line.
