Favorite fluorocarbon and braided line? 2025

fishing user avatarBrutal_boost reply :

I have been using the Shimano red label fluoro and I am wanting to have something that cast's better. For braid I have the daiwa JBraid on right now and looking for something better.

fishing user avatarNHBull reply :

Howdy and welcome.

Your going to get a lot of reply on this one. Red label for me has been terrible.

My FC'S....Tatsu, Invisx, and Hitena

Braid, 832, Gamma, Smackdown, Hitena pureline .

Good luck!

Baitcasting or spinning? Line sizes?

Shimano doesn't make line, Seaguar makes Red Label FC.

FC - None (exc premium leader grade for leaders, then Orvis, Hitena, Rio, lots of solid choices)

Braid - Hitena Pureline.  Expensive, but:  Lasts for years, 21 pound test is only .006 diameter, casts great, no problems of any kind.  I first bought it as a line for my bonefish backup spin outfit, and have since used it for my finesse/tube outfits, and love it.  Hitena gives all the specs for their products that one could ask for; everything they make is top quality.

fishing user avatarjimmyjoe reply :

Fluoro is InvizX, no doubt. Baitcaster only; I don't use fluoro on spinning.

Braid is PowerPro on spinning, and Fireline Ultra 8 on baitcasting, but only by a hair. I just started using the Ultra 8. We'll see how it holds up compared to Sufix 832.     jj

Hitena looks interesting definately not bass fishing mainstream line. The 1 spec fact that stands out is figure 8 knot beak strength. I haven't haven't seen figure 8 tensile test data listed before and indicator of knot strength or wind knot affect and it's very low at 50% of line strength. Definately very small diameter line compared to popular lines used by bass anglers.

I am not a super braid line expert and only use FINS PRT braid because it's color fast and quite with excellent knot strength. FINS WindTamer is made for baitcasting reels to eliminate wind knots and achieve maximum casting distance.

FC line take your choice both Seagaur and Sunline offer premium Fluorocarbon line.

I have not seen it either.  But logically, I don't think it emulates the performance of the knots I use.  I have seen no indication of inferior knot strength with the pureline, and since it's white, it's color fast (    :-)    ).

I use it so far for finesse presentations + casting jig-flies to bones.  For the line to leader I use the FG or double uni.  Since it and the leader are so small, the double uni works on all my rods, even with the small micro guides.

Seaguar red label has been great for me and all my buddies.  Spiderwire stealth braid

fishing user avatarMickD reply :

Regarding Hitena using the figure 8 knot for testing for knot strength.  They state they use it because it is consistent between different tyers while the usual knots like the FG, double uni, and palomar vary with the skill of the tyer.  They get about 90-95% with the FG and palomar, which are the knots they recommend.

+1 ... I'd also use InvizX and AbrazX FC lines .

fishing user avatarwaymont reply :

On spinning setups I use 8, 10, and 15lb original recipe Power Pro yellow.

casting I use 30 or 40lb PP

both I use Seaguar red or invizx for leaders OR McCoy copoly.

fishing user avatarTimberwolf530 reply :

It depends on what I am using it for:

Flipping & Pitching into cover - Daiwa J Braid X4  40-50 lb test, with Sunline Sniper leader 12- 15 lb test.

Spinning Reels - Daiwa J Braid X8 10 lb test, with Sunline Shooter or Sniper in 4-8 lb test.

Cranking - Sufix Elite 10-14 lb test or Sufix Invisiline fluoro in the same.

Topwater - Sufix Elite 14 lb test on casting, 8 lb on spinning

Froggin - Straight Daiwa J Braid X4 40-50 lb test.

I would use Sunline for cranking too, but it's just too d**n expensive, so I just use it for leader material.  IMO, it's the best fluoro out there for that.

Are you using J Braid X4 or X8?  The difference is the number of threads.  The X8 (8 threads) casts as good (or better) as straight mono in my experience.  I haven't tried the Grand yet, but I'm going to pick some up when I re-line this winter.  I think I may try some Gliss too.  So basically, X4 is stiffer, but tougher, better in the junk.  X8 is MUCH limper and casts better, but wears on rocks & wood.  Grand is supposed to be the best of both worlds.  The Daiwa braid fishes exactly the same as Power Pro IMO, and costs about half as much.

fishing user avatarstratoliner92 reply :

Sunline Sniper has been good for me. Started with red label and hated the line memory, then tried InvizX and loved the way it cast but after several break offs in timber I switched to Sniper and never looked back.

Power Pro original is good, I'm trying their Slick V2 on a few reels this season but not sure on it yet

fishing user avatarTopwaterdude reply :

FC- Red label

fishing user avatarboostr reply :

I use Berkley 100% Flourocarbon

Stren Flourocarbon for leader

Power Pro and Power Pro Slick 8 for braid

fishing user avatarGreenPig reply :

Spinning-Berkley Ultra 8 to Seaguar Red label leader

Casting- Original Power Pro to Seaguar Red label

I've used multiple higher end FC's for leaders and found zero benefits over the Seaguar Red label for my use.

Mono - Maxima Chameleon

fishing user avatarYumeya reply :

Braid-Pline TCB8, Seaguar Smackdown, Sunline Xplasma.
