Favorite Braid? New To Braid Need Help 2025

What is your favorite braid out there? I am new to braid and planning on putting some 65# braid on a heavy action rod for flipping and pitching/ and heavy duty grass and structure fishing.

So what braid do you guys prefer? Do you notice a difference in bites when using a bright braid versus a moss/ camo braid?

And I do plan on using backing of mono. Uni to uni know to connect them. Maybe something like 14#.

I use green power pro. I've used it in 30# and 50#. I've used red but don't like how i notice it bleeding color more and having a white chronarch and pink water all over it drives me nuts... Good braid though.

I also use Power Pro in the green color, 15-20 lb for spinning and 30-65 for baitcasters. The mono backing is a very good idea, and the uni-uni is a good knot. However, look up the alberto knot, much easier and VERY strong. As well, if you are afraid of losing bites due to visability, use a 3-5 ft fluoro leader.

Go with Power Pro green, the best braid in existence. I second using a mono backing too. Go with about 15 yards.

I have used Suffix 832, Power Pro and Spider Wire EZ braid. All 3 were great quality and strong as could be. Power Pro felt like a chain saw blade going through the guides. So did spider wire. I ended up going with 832 as my primary as its super smooth. Power Pro has a slick braid out but I haven't tried it yet.

I back mine with 50-60 yards of cheap #12 mono with an improved albright knot.

I use the green Power Pro in 50# on my baitcaster and 20# on my spinning gear.

I use 20# red Power Pro on my baitcaster and it seems to get the job done and not give me any problems. The coating seems to make it easy enough to pick out backlashes and I've had a few doozies lol. However, I've not had any big hang ups (or big fish for that matter) to really test the strength. I don't notice that I've lost a dramatic amount of distance from my casts compared to the mono I had prior.

All that said, someone somewhere will recommend just about every brand line. A buddy of mine even uses the walmart brand braid (omniflex or something) and likes it. It comes down to personal preference and what you are willing to pay. IMO, if there was a brand that plain didn't work as advertised, I can't see that it would stay on the shelf.

I usually buy Power Pro and I like it just fine, I don't use backing and buy 300 yd spools. Next time I buy it's going to be 1500 yd spools, cheaper in the long run with less waste and I will always have it on hand.

I like 50# 832 the best (if I use braid). I use the Hi-Viz? green and take a sharpie to the last 7'...

I like Power Pro best.... I also use the Alberto knot for all braid to flouro/mono connections as it is the best and strongest connection, and easier to tie then the uni-uni. Here is how to tie it. It is actually a wrap, and it is the BEST knot for any braid to flouro or braid to mono connection, it has NEVER failed me once.

Power Pro, Suffix, Spiderwire Stealth all good. I use Spiderwire Stealth for my frogs and jigs. Get at least 50-65#.

Though I still use suffix performance for frogs and punching just because I feel its better suited for heavier weed applications.

How is the smoothness of this braid compared to 832 or PP slick?

I switched from Power Pro to Suffix 832 and love it. Not as noisy and seems to cast farther with no backlashes.

I haven't fished either of those brands; so I can't really help you. I'd bet that Samurai would be smoother though, I have tried the regular power pro, one spiderwire and one sufix braid (don't recall which), and the Seaguar Kanzen; and felt like I had wasted my money- especially after I fished the Kanzen. The others were at least cheap.

I've used a number of different brands of braid on my 20 some odd outfits, I don't notice any noise issue with any of them. As long as the strength and knot holding is good, I don't care which one I'm using, I prefer the ones on sale.

As it turns out, the S8S Power Pro is crap. I ended up really liking it at first but had nothing but issues with it once I broke it in. It's such a loose braid that it will flex and get grit caught in the voids. I grooved a REC tip top with it. I was astounded. I've been fishing the 60# through the summer and have been quite pleased. Samurai has better diamtere, but other than that I think they're actually in the same class. Kanzen has a little better abrasion resistance, but not by a whole lot.

Hooligan, I did; ironically that was after you recommended it. Admittedly, different folks look for different qualities in their braids, but I was far from impressed.

Here's what I thought about the Seaguar braid, and I'll still stand by it.

Just started using braid, but I've been pretty happy with my Spiderwire Stealth 50# after a couple trips out with it. It seems to cast better and backlash less than the 12# Stren Mono I had on my reel.

Thats not just a PPS8S issue though Ive read of that happening with a number of different lines even mono.

I have S8S 10# on 2 spinning and 15# on 2 bc most of my fishing done with just these 4 no issues not REC guides. I dont fish in dingy waters though so that makes the difference?

In my experience, it is, having fished the rod with fluoro, mono, and other braids, S8S is definitely the culprit. As well, not one other rod that I have REC tips on has had issue. I've never seen it, either, with any other line, but have had it happen with two tips with S8S, and have friends that have had issue with it as well. I find it extremely hard to believe that mono will grove it, give the REC hardness being on par with that of Alconite- in some cases the hardness is actually much higher because of the deflection factor... I won't go into it here. Point being, having had the experience only with S8S, and fishing REC guides on a number of rods with no issue for a number of years, S8S most certainly is the issue at hand, in this case the sole issue.

The other problems I've had with S8S are that the finish coat balls up so badly it's like the line is badly abraided, actually creating small nodules on the line. When that happened, you're sure to notice fray shortly after.

Oh I wasnt saying it was not the cause, just others had REC grooving issues with other lines even befor S8S came out.
