whats everyones opinion of the curado i? i picked one up right when they were released in 7:2:1 but havent used it yet cuz i just got the rod for it. out of the box it feels way overgreased but im gonna spool it up this evening and see how it does
I have been using mine straight out of the box, for a little while now and it's a great reel. I see myself keeping this reel for a long while.
It's a very nice reel... Very nicely ,well built... Updated technology I believe you will enjoy it.
They're very nice. The bearings are PACKED with grease out of the box. Make sure you keep the brakes up at first, because until those bearings break down it won't cast that well. After 10-20 casts, it seems to start loosening up, and actually casts really well.
so i spooled it up and took it out and this is probably my most favorite reel now. this thing is silent, smooth, comfortable. love the handles. and caught the biggest bass of my life this afternoon with it.
It's a Shimano, what else would expect but perfection?
u r right. just didnt know what to expect after the G series and ive read some guys having trouble getting it dialed in right, etc. i didnt experience any of that and im pretty much a rookie at baitcasters. im definitely pickin up another one or two of these in the near future

Its not perfect but Id buy this before any other reel in the $200 and under category.
This curado, is my first low profile Shimano reel I have owned, and I must say I have been so impressed I will be getting my second reel before this year is over.
Yes sir! It's a awesome new platform .. And at the price.... You really are getting more for less! I don't even want to use any other baitcasters!
im either gonna get another 7:2:1 or 6:3:1 or whatever it is. its the farthest casting out of the box reel ive ever used.
I know im gonna have one!
I had the 6.3 and ended up selling it. I didn't like it as much as the CI4+, but given the price difference, it was a really good reel. I didn't like the Curado near as much as my Tatula Type R, which I bought for far less. Curado didn't feel as smooth and didn't cast as far. Only thing I liked better was the size, but not enough to keep it. I do like the SVS Infinity braking system though. Like it enough that I bought two of the new Antares reels after using it with the Curado and CI4+. Just figured how much better could it possibly be if those two lesser models were that good. Antares completely blew me away and then some.
I like my I a lot. At $180 its a game changer imo. I dont like mag breaks, so I cant comment compared to a Tatula. However, compared to a core 100, Ill take the Curado I, and I like my core pretty well. The Curado casts really well, Palms really well, is fairly smooth, and seems to have more power or torque when fighting a fish than other Shimanos I own. I havent opened mine up yet. Thats saying something because I always tweak my reels.
anyone hav a 200E and the new I ?? is the 200E as smooth as the new one? ive always wanted a green E series but if the new ones blow them outta the water ill just get another I series
Ive got five 50E's and will buy 200I's from now on. Dont get me wrong I love my 50E's, but the I is just a better reel. Time will tell if its as tough as the E series.

I have a 201e that i absolutely love...i hate that i dont have more lol. My citica e is quite nice as well.
I have a Ci4 chronarch on the way and i plan on getting a curado i soon so only then will i be able to say which i like better
We shall see how it performs compared to my E, lews tourny pro and revo STX

I have several E7s, and E5, 50E, and 300E, the I series is smoother than any of them. They're still great reels though and if you found a good deal on one then jump on it for sure.
Curado I..... I used it today for about 300 throws..
But like bluebasser86 said.... If you can get a real
Good discount on it... I would pull the trigger
Curado I just can't be beat right now
Edit... Pulling trigger on a E7
I love mine! It felt rough right out of the box and I was afraid I had gotten a bad one. I put a little reel oil on the level wind and after a few casts it smoothed out. Now casts smooth as butter. Took awhile to dial it in but that was mostly user error. Its very easy to get to the brakes. Slide a single lever and the side plate swings open. I set 2 brakes as Shimano suggests. It came with two set but I tried it with all four since I was having trouble with a heavy lure. Then dial the little wheel all the way out. Cast, backlash, dial the wheel one more click, and try again until it works. Half way on was what worked for me. I had a problem getting the side plate shut again until I turned the tensioner all the way out. Now that its set up I should be able to adjust for different weight lures with just turning the little wheel. It even has numbers on it for reference. My former reel is an Ambassador 5600. This casts so much easier than that but I know some of the difference is the rod. I'm going to swap them around and see. I may be done with Abu. Of course, I realize I'm comparing a $60 reel with a $180 one.
I got to handle one at the Bass Pro in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, there were some things that really impressed me about the reel, and it is definitely a step up from the G series reels. I was however disappointed in how smooth the reel felt, especially after all the acclaim on the message boards. I will say that the one I handled was a low gear ratio and maybe that was the difference.

If they had any in stock, ask to handle one out of the box, display models get handled by alot of people who have messed with the reel in many different ways. I don't think a display model can give an accurate representation on how smooth your own reel will operate. Imho.

They only got 4 reels the same day I was there, they had 2 left and they were in the box behind the counter. I do understand what your saying though.

Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you want to look at it. These reels are getting scooped up before alot of people knew their retailer had them in the first place. LOL..

They are and Shimano is playing the supply and demand game. I am sure once the new wears off they will become readily available.
I've really enjoyed mine, I've got a 6:3:1 and a 7:2:1 LH models. I caught a fish on my second cast with the 6:3:1. They have great smoothness/handling that may not be apparent when holding one in a store but once you put some line on and start casting you'll feel it right away. I really like the new braking system and use the small dial almost exclusively after getting the internal brakes set. I like how its concealed and placed in the same spot as the metanium. I feel like you really can't go wrong for the quality and features you get at that price point. Great reels
I have 3 of them, and in my opinion, they are awesome! These reels have so impressed me that I haven't gotten around to using my still brand new ci4's yet. They were silky smooth right out of the box. Like RoadWarrior says, just set em' and forget em'.

I bought a LH model today on the auction site. I almost don't believe it's true until I get tracking. Hopefully everywhere has them soon because gander now says June 12th for LH models.
I'm going to see how low it can throw tomorrow.

I dropped kicked my steering wheel when I read the email at the light. I yelled WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY ME WHYYYYYYYYYY
I might have to buy a chronarch ci4 or core and NRX to take away the pain

I know the feeling, I too am waiting on the lefties. I'm used to it though because this has always been the way Shimano conducts business, lefties 2 to 3 months after the righties. To tell the truth it hasn't been that hard for me waiting, I have all the gear I could possibly ever need now. In fact I have a Metanium XG that I received for my birthday last Oct that's never been spooled or put on a rod. I'll eventually get around to it, and maybe by then the Curado's will be available.
Good luck in your search to find one of the first available lefties!

If you use the Metanium, you won't want a Curado anymore.
For those looking for the Curado I, Kruegerfarms.com should still have RH models in stock.

RH seem to be rampant now
I think I may have found a lucky break, shall see tomorrow if Im going to be disappointed like when they discontinued the shanghai streetside dumplings from PF Chang's menu
edit

This is far from the case. Although I have more expensive and "better" gear, eg. Calais DC, Calcutta TE DC, Stella FD, Metanium, most of my fishing is done with Citica E's and a Chronarch B. I enjoy fishing with them all equally. I'm very excited to try the new Curado I and add it to my growing list of Curado models which include a 51E, 301E, and 201DHSV. My first Curado was a 201B SF but I stupidly sold it some years ago, really wish I hadn't.

This is pretty true in my case. The curado got put on the shelf after I rediscovered my metanium xg on my expride rod. But I did use the curado the past couple of weekends and couldn't tell the difference casting wise from 38ths up. Now the Metanium is going to stay at home for awhile.
Sfttackle.com had a bunch of right hand I's in stock last week.. Give them a call
Early bird gets the worm. HI's has very few lefties in 6 ratio only
Jeff
I just picked up my 2nd Curado I,over at Ron's Valley Sports. He gave me a heck of a deal on the reel and a Dobyns rod. Now I know why so many of us on here really enjoy doing business with him. I still can't believe how he hooked me up. Thanks Ron!!

Heres the one I have
Been using my 201HG for almost a week now and I'm loving it. Have a second reel that I don't have a rod for yet so it's just sitting pretty for a week or two.
Very pretty!

The Savvy arrived yesterday. Fished with it for a little bit and its exactly what I wanted for finesse and light applications rod. Paired with the TTpro its a very nice setup. I can only begin to imagine how it must feel with a DX. That's out of my range. My 2nd curado is being delivered today. Enjoy your new toys, you are going to really like them.
