As far as I can tell, no there is not.

I mean, depending on how you define "better", you can probably do better by paying more. but I'm not sure there's any other way.

Kastking has pretty decent braid, not sure about their mono and fluorocarbon lines but good price points.

McCoy line is fantastic. Super limp and strong. I switched from Trilene XL 14lb to McCoy 15lb a few years ago.

I like XL but the McCoy is so much more limp and stronger that I stuck with it. I recommend it. It's way way more easy to manage than Big Game.

Budget wise, you will hard pressed to find a better line than Big Game. I pay a little more and get Original Stren because it's my favorite. I've used Mccoy and XL, both really good limp lines. But Stren seems to be a good balance of limp yet really tough abrasion wise and knot strength.

Another vote for Ande monofilament line. It is a good fishing line but I prefer Berkeley Big Game Mono.

Stren

Sufix Siege, Elite and Promix

Kastking Flourokote

Kastking Superpower braid

Another vote for Mccoy Mean Green. I have had the same line without changing on spinning reels for multiple seasons.

For budget line that can beat their price? No. IMO, they are the clear cut leader in this category. With that being said, I use Izorline in that category. Cost about 60% more, but I feel the line handles much better to justify the cost. Both lines are relatively affordable to me considering I started fishing Sniper flouro heavily over the last few years.

I agree that there are lines out there that handle better than Big Game, and some of them aren't that much money. But the way I think is this: 99% of actually getting the fish in your hands is what happens after the hookset, not before. And that's where Big Game really shines. Timber, pike or musky, rocks and slop. Bring it all on! So yeah, I recognize that Big Game isn't perfect, but when it comes to reliability and utility PER DOLLAR SPENT, there ain't NOTHING that compares. jj

IMO, when people get “technique specific” the line might be the only thing you need to change. Stretch, sink/float, abrasion resistance, visibility & memory all matter more than it seems sometimes.

People buy a $1,200 bow, $150 arrows, $200 sights, $125 rest, $100 stabilizer, and then ask "what's the cheapest good broadhead". Blows my mind.

I buy Red Label off Amazon in big spools almost every year and love it. By far my favorite "budget" line.

I have tried many many mono lines and out there and I ended up right back at Big Game. I was trying to fix something that wasn't broke.

I have used big game and Hi Seas mono. I bought a spool of Ande back country that I am going to try next

I used expensive braid and flourocarbon for a while but came back to Big Game because it's a twentieth of the price and there's just not that much of a difference. @Catt still uses it too. It's good line for the price.

I stocked up on BPS Excel mono at the spring classic. Around 9 bucks for a 1000 yard spool. I got 6, 8 and 10lb. It's a good quality line.
