Spinnerbait/crankbait Combo 2025

fishing user avatarBaconStealer303 reply :

I have a decent spinning setup, and then a powell endurance 7'2"mh w/ a lews tourney pro 7:1. I tried to throw some spinnerbaits and cranks and realized the 7:1 is not very easy to use. So i think i just need one more combo to cover most techniques? I was thinking an endurance crank rod and lews 5:1. What do you think? Nothing too expensive though, any suggestions?

fishing user avatarbmlum415 reply :

Possibly a dobyns 704cb, I have one and love it for any reaction bait. I have it paired with a revo winch. But all my other setups have lews reels on them

fishing user avatarmjseverson24 reply :

for a spinnerbait/crankbait combo I would suggest the W&M Skeet reese spinnerbait rod for $90 or a st croix triumph 7' M or MH for $70 or a berkley lightning shock rod 7' M or MH for $50. for the reel I would suggest an abu black max for $50. theese combos cost $100-140.

fishing user avatarBaconStealer303 reply :

I'll take a look at those, thanks

fishing user avatarMatt Jungblut reply :

Abu Garcia Vendetta2 Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy  best cheap rod around for spinnerbaits and cranks

I also always use a slow speed reel for my crankin and spinnerbait  easier to reel faster then it is to reel slower

fishing user avatarToledoEF reply :

I use dobyns 705 cb and love it

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

For affordable, a 7' BPS Crankin Stick, Medium Action, and a BPS 5.2:1 Pro Qualifier reel is the best combo for under $200 around.

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

Everybody had good suggestions but I think you are on thr rright track.

Some like spinnerbaits on fast reels, but i do not. I like them on a 6:1

I actually use the Powell 723Enurance for spinnerbaits, but my. Lews TP reel is a 6:1.

But alot of guys are using mod action rods for spinner baits, a Powell Endurance 723cb, 724cb, or a Max 704cb (crankbait series) would all be good cranking / spinnerbait rods.

That rod could cover spinnersbaits, chatterbaits, crankbaits, lipless cranks...

If you dont plan on using really deep diving crankbaits or hard pulling lures, you could get away with a Lews 6:1. But a 5:1 is also a good choice.

I like my Tourney Pro reels, but a Lews BB1 is a good choice.

fishing user avatarBlues19 reply :

I agree with the Bass pro Crankin Stick. I would go with a medium gear ratio since you are fishing spinnerbaits as well. I would just look at a nice solid reel that feels good. Personally I would probably get a Revo S to go along with it. I dont see the need for a reel with a gear ratio in the 5s unless you plan on doing alot of deep cranking. In that case I like the Revo Winch. A 5:2.1 or lower just seems like it would be a pain in the butt to burn a spinnerbait back, and that is how I catch most of my spinnerbait fish

EXACTLY !!

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

Fish ranger still has all Powell Endurance and Max rods for 109.99 (60bucks off the endurance, 30bucks off the max)

Lews TP can be had for 129.00 on ebay. (Retails for 199.99)

240.00+/- for an Endurance/ Lews Tourney pro combo that retails for 370.00 total is a no brainer.

fishing user avatarBaconStealer303 reply :

Thanks guys! Thats an awesome deal for the endurance, wish i knew about it about it a couple weeks ago! But i'll look into all those rods, and i definitely want a tourney pro because i know i can consistently get them for 120-140 on ebay.

fishing user avatarretiredbosn reply :

Yeah, whatever u do stay away from the black max, really the entire max line of reels from Abu. I like Abu reels, but would not have a max or similar reel if u gave it to me they have a graphite frame and will flex. IMO all baitcasting reels should have at minimum an aluminum frame, anything else and you are wasting your money.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

I'll second the Berkley Lightning Rod shock, the 7' MH is a very versatile rod. I used it for many things last year, including spinnerbaits, and shallow/mid depth cranks. I would advise against a 5:1 reel for "general purpose" work, just as I would a 7:1 reel. A 6:1, IMHO would be a better choice, and most all but the deepest diving cranks and/or spinner baits with huge blades will pull easy on a modern 6:1 reel.

Baconstealer, I have a deal for you, since you are looking for a good set up.

I have an almost brand new Shimano Curado 200E5 in the box.....fished maybe a couple of hours.  It's pretty near perfect.  And I have a Powell Diesel 7'2" Medium Heavy rod, with about 2 hours on it,  and a St. Croix Mojo Bass 6'8" Medium, with about one hour fishing on it,  and a 13 Black *** 7'3" medium, with about 2 hours on it.

My offer, which is valid only for you and till Tuesday nite April 23, midnite, is $200 TYD for the reel and ONE of those rods of your choice.  I'll even kick in a "surprise" bait which I know you will really like!

I don't really like to sell stuff and have a lot of it......and don't like to be bothered.  So, I'm just throwing this out there for you for a couple of days.

Thought I might have a little fun!  The clock is ticking!!

I get most of my spinnerbait fish with a slower retrieve in deeper water, that's why I prefer the slower reel. When you have clearer water and shad based forage, burning seems to work better than when it's bluegill and crayfish forage, which are what my lakes are, even our clear ones.

If that is the case, I would probably go with the 5.2:1 gear ratio

Better jump on this deal.  You will be getting approximately $300 worth of gear for $200, and it will be in like new condition.  Silas takes good care of his gear. Great offer, Silas.  Tick Tock Tick Tock

thanks for the kudos, Dale!

Now why don't YOU join in with me since you are the man with the "good stuff" and make him an offer he can't refuse!!  Good Karma comes back around, you know!

fishing user avatarBaconStealer303 reply :

Man i've been thinking about this for the last couple days, and it's an awesome deal. I really want it, but i also need a pair of glasses. I'll decide in the next couple hours because i can only get one, but this is really cool and i really really appreciate the offer. What an awesome thing to do though Silas i'll let you know in a bit.

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

Dude, get the combo, and next pay check get some 25 dollar calcuttas or strike king glasses to hold you over.

I don't want you to feel bad about turning me down.  I won't be offended.  I do understand the "either/or" conundrum.  I'll be good with whatever you decide.

Great stuff comes up on the flea market all the time, and you may have some different equipment in mind.  You need to get exactly what you want, for sure.

fishing user avatarBaconStealer303 reply :

Sorry the reply is so late but i have to decline the offer. Again it is really awesome for you to do that and it's too bad we couldn't make the deal. I'm just not one to rush into decisions, and that's probably a good thing haha. Thanks again though.

-Austin

fishing user avatarSilas reply :

That's fine, Austin!   I agree that one shouldn't rush into such decisions.  I think you really need to look around a bit more and come to a conclusion on your own as to what you really want.

I'm up late spoolng a "just arrived today"  Ebay Shimano Twinpower 2500 spinning reel with SX-1 braid.  As it is now, I tend to "fool around" with my stuff more than I fish with it!  Lol!

   Good luck in your hunt!!
