Just ordered one of these from BPS and I'm really excited to get it. This will easily be the nicest reel I have ever owned. Before this it has just been round Abu Garcia reels and some cheaper LP reels.
Any users of this reel want to share their opinions on it?
I got mine @ 6mo. ago. Very nice smooth reel, I was actually shocked at how small it is compared to my other baitcasters but it hold enough line and has been very enjoyable to fish. It's my favorite reel now, I've been thinking about getting another while they are on sale.
I've read nothing but good reviews on these reels and am trying to decide if picking one up right now would be in my bet interest, only because then I would need to shell out the cash for a new rod as well. Have read that it is worth the $99 original price, but at $79, I think its a sure thing.
I own 5 of them and there are lots of other satisfied PQ owners on this board. Great reel, great value; at $79 - they're a steal ...
If you search, there have been lots of discussions about the PQ.
See sig.
I love mine. I fish every single day whether it's for an hour or for eight hours and I've had no issues whatsoever with it. I've taken it out saltwater fishing, washed it down thoroughly and it keeps on going. Make sure you treat it like any other reel. Keep it clean, occasionally lube it, and you're set. Very user friendly reel. I'd gladly buy more of them if I need to.
I love my PQ's!
I do love mine too. I got the combo and use it for frogs. I do need to clean it which I'll probably do today. I wanted to go this morning froggin since I'm not working due to rain. I also like the carbon lite combo too.
Cufishin nice avatar!
I think you will be very happy with a PQ. 8-) I have three that I use regularly.
I have two of the Browning Midas reels and just got the limited ed Pro Qualifier Tournament (7 oz). If find the training wheels (DBS) have given me a lot of confidence. My casting has improved greatly this year, to the point that I'm getting better distance and fewer backlashes than with my Chronarch MG.
It's probably due to an improvement in technique, but the DBS seems to have increased my confidence it baitcasting gear.
I think you will enjoy the PQ
Oh well, the bait monkey got me again! I couldn't stand all this talk about the PQ when I only have one of them, so I went to order another while they are on sale and BPS is running that darn 6 month payment thing again. now I have another PQ on the way and another $50 worth of stuff coming with it. I have everything I need for a great fishing trip except gas money >
After retiring, I finally had the time to pursue my life long passion of bass fishing.
One thing I really wanted was to find equipment I could afford and standardize. Nothin' cooler than looking at several set ups laying on the deck all the same.
Well, I found that in the Pro Qualifier.
A friend of mine who fishes with me in my boat frequently has a few $200/$300 shimano's. After buying my first PQ ( I think I paid $79) I would reach down and throw one of his rigs now and then for comparison sake. I guess I'm not sophisticated enough to appreciate the difference 'cause to me there is none.
I've got a dozen and counting. Best value on the market. IMHO.
Honestly the new Pro Qualifier and Carbonlites are very impressive. I own two curado's a Citica and a couple carbonlites. What I love about the BPS reels is the Dual breaking. I'm threw and threw a Centifuage brake man and so I leave the break off on the magnetic most of the time. However with really light baits and when I have wind it's great to just turn up the external brake and be set. My only concern is how well they will hold up over the long haul. I've broken down my shimano's several times and can really tell they are made to last. I used a buddies Citica the other day for a second and I could tell that thing hadn't seen a drop of oil since he bought it yet there it was just a ticking along. I practically begged him to oil it LOL.
I have one. It's impressive. It's outstanding at a sale price of $80. Easily the best bargain in a baitcasting reel period.
I'm really excited to get this real. This is my first order from BPS and i'm a bit disappointed so far though.
I placed the order 3 days ago. I haven't received any email updates from them about it and it's not showing up on the website under My Orders. I've called 4 times between today and yesterday about the order. Two times they said it was all packed up, ready to ship, and should ship today (yesterday). Now they are saying it's still being picked in the warehouse and it could ship today.....

I am a BPS fan. I am a huge fan of the PQ and many of their soft plastics. Most of the stuff I buy is from the local store (3 hours round trip). I have always been satisfied with the service. Buying on-line from them is sometimes necessary, but their shipping costs and delivery times compared to Tackle Warehouse are not very good. I would insist on speaking to a manager and explain the issue to him. I would expect them to do the right thing.

I'm so glad i live about 35 to 40 minutes from mine. 3 hours is a good hike. You must make sure your loaded with cash when go. How's the store there in Illinois?

I ordered another one yesterday afternoon and have already received a confirmation email and an order update email. Unfortunately the last email informs me that my PQ is on back order, at least I locked into the sale price. but, I don't want to wait, I want my toys NOW! :'(
Which model did you order? Maybe mine is on backorder as well. BPS just seems to be giving me the run around.

I ordered the 6.4 :1 right-handed, probably the most popular one.
Oh ok. I ordered the 7.1 righty.
make sure that it is a Pro Qualifier and not a PQ "Limited Edition".
Either way it might be a fine reel but it might have an impact on the "price tag " vs what reel that you are actually getting. We've seen this BPS trick many times on multiple products over the years.
Again no judgement passed but you just might not be getting what you "think" you are paying for.

I ordered the same part# as the one i already have so it had better be the same thing. I talked to them today and was told they don't have an arrival date for this item yet but it should be less than 30 days. has me wondering if I should change to a different gear ratio.

Good point.
BPS has done this in the past with the Johnny Morris line by simply re-hashing old reels and using the JM moniker on it and adding the term "limited edition".
You wound up getting a reel that was 2-3 model years old. :
FINALLY got mine in the mail today. Fedex Smartpost is the worst shipping method ever. From now on I think i'll just make the 2hr drive to Savannah GA.
It's a sweeeeeet reel though. A lot smaller than I expected but it's really nice. Can't wait to hit the water and try it out.

Thats exactly my reaction when I opened up the box, now my other reels just seem big and the PQ is just right.

I recently picked up a limited edition Pro Qualifier in LH. From the specs it appears to be a Carbonlite with a black & sparkle paint job, BUT available in LH. When I looked at the pictures and description, I was careful to make sure that it had DBS and a swept handle. It's a sweet reel.
My PQ(7.1) just showed up today in time for my fish outing tomorrow. I got a Heavy/Fast Bionic Blade to go with it. Love the size, and it seems to be very smooth.
The local BPS has the PQ combos on sale for 140 until June 20. Will probably get another if I like this one.
I still have a PQ bc reel that I bought in 96-97 (round reel) It still gets used for catfishing and when it gets cleaned still operates fairly smooth. $99 with a free BPS rod and balancing kit. The rod is history, but I still pick up this reel and flip jigs every now and then, just for nostalgic reasons. The new PQ gets rave reviews but my newest BPS reel was last years clunn, which has been great so far.
Fantastic reel, best baitcaster for under $100 in existance. Smooth, casts light baits well, and seldom has a serious backlash.

I have to say I am VERY impressed with this reel. I have a Daiwa Viento, Quantum Catalyst PT and Daiwa Rojo and this one blows them away. Casts 50lb spiderwire stealth camo smooth as can be.
I think I'll be picking up another MH/7.1 combo before they go off sale.
