What is your dream combo and do you own it? I figure life is too short and I really love fishing. I've always wanted an nrx and an ito. This past winter I got the combo along with a ton of other stuff (bait monkey is too strong).
I love my NFC HM custom I built. It's made on the same blank as the edge series black widow rods with the same guides, I think, and a carbon fiber handle. It also cost me about 120 dollars less to build it than buy it. If I just had a metanium on it, it would be my dream jig rod. The curado I does just fine though.
I couldn't afford to own my dream combo, but I've good lots of nice stuff that keeps me happy.
If I had an Aldebaran DC I would be.
A jerkbait has been my new favorite thing to fish the last year or so, which makes my jerkbait rod/reel my favorite setup.
Kistler Helium 3 7'0" medium x-fast with a Lew's on there.
Calcutta d and st croix legend. I splurged this year and bought it.
Yep. 5S69MLXF-B with a Stradic 2500MgFB
Some day ill have an aldebaran 51 and a poison adrena...someday
But until then my chronarch ci4 and 13 *** will be just fine! Love that combo!
I've got the rod I'm just working on getting the reel. Dream combo St. Croix Legend Xtreme paired with a Abu Garcia MGXtreme
Yup got my ugly stick and zebco 33, Life is good.
Fishing 3 of my dream combos...
Have the aldebaran hg on the list to go with my expride. This is going to be a fun year of fishing

What reel is that in the center?
Core 51, avail spool, zpi goodies
Yes I am (at least for now). I don't know enough about super high-end reels yet so the bait monkey hasn't been bugging me about upgrading. I've had my spinning combo for a year and it's still my dream. GLX rod and Stradic CI4+ reel. Just bought my dream baitcasting combo this year. NRX rod and Curado I reel. Every time I cast it I just giggle...
I got a Megabass Nautilus this year and paired it with a Shimano Chronarch CI4. I use it primarily for football jigs and the sensitivity is just unreal.
I've got 5 of my dream combo! St. Croix Legend Extremes paired with Pflueger Patriarchs. Three are casting and two are spinning!
The short answer is no. I've got a few decent rigs. Once I own a rod & reel combo, it isn't a dream anymore - so I got to dream up a new one. Just another first world problem . . . .

Contentment is a rare virtue!
Too many dream combos to choose from, can't afford them just yet. However, I'm happy with what I have and in fact I like my new Carbonlite BPS PQ combos. Going to take them with me on my FL trip next week!
I'm close enough. To upgrade from what I have would be to spend a lot of cash for not much gain.

That is my dream rug Matt! Nice "stuff"!
Haha
In a word: nope.
If I had my dream combo I'd just come up with a new dream combo. Lord knows "content" is not a state of being I'm familiar with.
I don't dream about gear, just big fish.
Yep
G Loomis MBR842C with a Daiwa PX68L
St Croix Legend Xtreme 7'1" MHXF with a Core 51Mg7
nope. i like what i have and not sure what my dream combo is but probably an NRX or Lamiglas Infinity paired with a Core 50MG7
My dream combo would be too much money for me to justify spending for one setup. However I'm fishing a combo that I wanted to own so at one time I guess it was a dream combo for me.
Meh, just put a fish on it and I'm happy.
I got 3 my dream combos:
NRX 853C with Core 51Mg
GLX 854C with Chronarch 151 CI4
NRX 852S with Stradic CI4
Im not sure what my dream combo would be.
I don't think I'm willing to fork out money to buy my dream combo (MB Super Leggera) but I do have one that I feel like it will be the best combo I will get a chance to fish. The only problem is......I haven't fish it yet either lol. Ice just melted, bass season is open yet, I just got back from a long vacation. Now itching to use it!
BTW it color matches!!! Let the hating begin.
This is a tough question to answer. I got serious about bait cast fishing again only 3 years ago, so I'm still learning the basics. I own a BPS, Lews, Diawa, Shimano (Core 50 & 100 Mgs, CI4), *** and Abu Garcia reels ranging from $99 to $350+. My rod collection consists of Diawa, St. Croix, ***, Abu Garcia, BPS, and Fenwick. Currently my favorites are my Core and Concept reels mixed and matched with Veritas and *** rods.
I'd love to say my ultimate rig would be a top shelf Dobyns, or custom rod and a Shimano reel made of unobtainium, but reality is my daughter starts college in 3 years and I have this crazy idea of paying off my mortgage within the next ten years, which puts a bass rig that potentially north of $1,000 pretty far down my priority list.
Yeah, I'd just have to say my dream combo would be one mentioned above, just with a 12+ pound LM attached to it.....

Priorities my man, everyone's in a different phase of their lives. I'm just fishing out of a little beat up bass tracker. I can afford a $35k boat right now, but my wife said no boat until the baby. I had to sell all my 12 setups to step it up to high end gears. It's just a tool in the end, but I like my tools a certain way. I don't knock people with starter setups, we all started somewhere. It doesn't help me catch more fish, but I can honestly say I do enjoy my fishing time more with the gears I really want.

Yes, it's as simple as that. My wife and I are both college educated and have great jobs, but reality is that houses in the Boston area start at $350,000 for something livable and a bachelor's degree at a state school is $100,000. If we can give our daughter as big a head start in life as possible, the better off she'll be. The boss, er, wife, and I have our retirement in good order already.
OK, enough hijacking... got to get back to work figuring out which of my dream combos I'm going to catch that 12+ pound LM with!
Thanks for your comment.
I just got my first bait caster and I've been so impressed. It's a cheap combo but the difference between it and the spincasters I've been using the last 30 years is insane. I dont even want to think about how nice a quality setup is but for now, this really is a dream. I've had a blast just practicing out in the driveway and cant wait to get out on the water.
No. well not really.
I have my stradic 1000 ci4 on a Fenwick river runner that I absolutely love to fish with. A better rod would be nice but it's the best I could afford at the moment. Any fish I catch with it is a good time and in the end, that's what matters.
My dream combo is the one that has a DD bass hooked up.
"soon"
I couldn't even afford a combo $300 less than my dream combo...
To be honest, every rod & reel combo I have for each technique would be my "dream" combo for that technique, because if it wasn't, it would be traded in or sold.
At one point in time I drooled over a DX paired with some high end Daiwa or Shimano. I've got that and more, so I guess yes I do own my "dream" combo lol

I don't even fish for big fish anymore, 50# tarpon makes me pretty happy and pretty d**n tired. I was having a ton of fun catching sub 1# mayans the other day, I went to target them. Caught a 3# bass and I was disappointed, lol.
My dream combo would have a 10 pounder on the end of it.
I just fish my fav combo ....a 5'6" pistol grip uglystiik and a 4600c3
