Anyone tried KVD's Line & Lure Conditioner? 2024

fishing user avatarpauldconyers reply :

Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this product? Just hype or does it really work? What exactly does it "do" for your line and your lure?

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Been useing it for years.

A few squirts the night before and makes the line more manageable.

I use it on braid also

Mike

fishing user avatarThe Bassman reply :

I use it a lot. Really don't notice a big effect on braid but it does a great job at freeing up window blind cords.  So it must be for real.

fishing user avatarMjmj reply :

I use it. It works well enough to notice a difference. For braid I use Braid Aid.

fishing user avatarpauldconyers reply :

I guess my question is what does it "do" for the line? Does it soften it and reduce memory or something? Do you spray it on the line when it is on the reel? Just once or every time out? Can it damage the reel?

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Forgot to mention....

Use it while spooling also.

Every dozen or so turns either spray as you spool or wet an old nylon and run the line through.

Useing a non absorbent rag you use a lot less.

Yes it does all that.

Some guys use it on the reel.

and no it does no damage or leave a slick or sticky film as others do.

fishing user avatarpauldconyers reply :

What does it do for your lure?

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I apply Line & Lure conditioner as I spool and then again before EVERY outing.

fishing user avataronenutinthewater reply :

It leaves a trail of fairy dust behind your lure which the fish just love!

Dont know about on lures but it does work well for taming mono.

fishing user avatarpauldconyers reply :

Does this mainly "help" mono? Do much for fluero or hybrid line?

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

It's good stuff.  I have found it works better on mono and better on certain FC lines than others.

For me it makes lines more manageable and it does increase casting distance. I do question how long it lasts.  Sometimes, it may only a few casts.  Sometimes, it's all day.  I think it may have to do with how much sun exposure your line gets through out the day.

fishing user avatarMassYak85 reply :

I use the stuff for non-braided lines but I'm also curious what exactly it does. I've heard it's very safe stuff chemically but that makes me wonder what is actually in it that can interact enough with the line to make a difference.

fishing user avatarpunch reply :

I think line spray is 100% placebo. I've talked with a few FLW pro's "off the record" about the topic and they all say the same thing.. buy quality braid/floro and don't bother with the conditioner spray. It's doesn't do anything significant. If you buy good line, you wont find any advantages with spraying it with any of the various line conditioners.

I've used it & not used it on combos that are very similar with the same line and notice zero difference myself.

The weather may be affecting the line more-so than the spray. Infact that's more likely.

fishing user avatarRuss E reply :

It does work on flourocarbon and copoly line.

one of the huge advantages I see is it reduces line memory.

I use it often for both.

not sure what benefits it would give braid.

KVD is the only conditioner I use. have not seen many benefits from other brands.

all flourocarbon has some memory.

I use it on Tatsu and sunline sniper. it does make a difference.

I spooled several rods all with 16LB FC Sniper, and I used the conditioner on a few of the reels.. a few I didn't. I observed the line memory to be no different between the reels after a weekend of use.

I guess it's YMMV but people in the industry seem to think it's pretty much snake oil.

fishing user avatarmatbellon3 reply :

Helps with line memory on some of the cheaper fluorocarbons but not so much high end fluorocarbon

fishing user avatarLonnieP reply :

I bought a bottle to try a while back, I couldn't see any difference even after soaking the line the night before,  on copoly and fluorocarbon. Maybe it's because I use fairly limp, good handling lines? I doubt I'll ever buy it again.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Yes, I use it.

On all lines but braid.

I actually make sure to use it AFTER every outing so my line is ready to go if I forget to do it the night before.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I think this stuff works it's best when the line is at the end of its life or is just bad from the get go.  If the line you use is soft and limp from the get go, then this stuff maybe pointless.  For me, it works but if I have good quality line and it's new then what's the point.

Also, I have seen this several times with this stuff, guys make two mistakes with it > 1) They don't shake the bottle. 2) They store it above or below room temp (if you store it on a boat or in your car, it seems to break down over time).

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

I find it most useful with non-braided lines that have been sitting on a reel for a while without being used. It helps deal with the initial memory that comes with lines being tightly wrapped on a reel spool. If it's fresh line that you just spooled up, memory shouldn't be that bad to begin with so I don't know how much difference it will make.

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

I use YoZuri Hybrid on my cranking rods and KVD L&L does make a huge difference....definitely NOT a placebo.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Yuge!

:love-093:

fishing user avatarMittenMouth reply :

I saw bass pro had a L&L in their spring catalog- anyone know if this is the same as KVD?  I don’t think I would switch formulas after using KVD and seeing how well it works, especially on FC

fishing user avatarHarold Scoggins reply :

I want to make sure I never run out.

'Snake Oil' would be a good name for line conditioner.

fishing user avatarDogBone_384 reply :

I use it on all my reels. It wirks, plain and simple.

The best snake oil I’ve ever used next to WD40!

fishing user avatarjimmyjoe reply :

I'm not going to say what I think of ANY line conditioner, but I'll tell you what I do.

   1) I put one drop of dishwashing liquid in a cup of hot water, and I spray my line b4 I go fishing.

   Or:

I soak a rag in hot, soapy water and then cast a heavy lure out and run the line through the rag on the retrieve.

   Or:

   2) If I fish in a place that has a parking lot, I attach the end of my line to the car and walk off a distance equal to my longest cast. Then I pull like heck, hold for 10-15 seconds, and wrap the line on the reel.

   3) Hot weather is a killer. In July and August, I watch my line like a hawk, and I re-string at the first sign of surface brittleness. I can do this economically because I use Big Game, and I buy it once a year on sale. Yeah, I know. I'm cheap.

No matter what I do or what I see other fishermen do, it all seems to make a much bigger difference in hot, sunny weather. Nothing I have ever found nor anything I see other people using seems to work in cold weather. Since I fish from ice out to ice up, this is by comparison a lesser percentage of my problems.    jj

Tried it!

All it did was remove the shine off the line which can't be a good thing!

On the other hand it makes a great paper weight ????

fishing user avatarcadman reply :

I use it when I spool line and then the night before. Works fine for me. Keeps my line more manageable.

fishing user avatarLionHeart reply :

Never tried KVD, but "Reel Magic" was a quick way to waste 7 bucks.

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

Reel Magic sucks and seems to just be oil really...i have no idea what is in the KVD stuff but i know when i use it my yozuri hybrid line is more manageable and i have less issues.  Use it when respooling and before each outing.

fishing user avatarKP Duty reply :

Line and lure is quick detailer.  I prefer meguiars or the turtle wax ice quick detailer.  If you like reel magic, you can save money by just buying food grade silicone spray they use on molds.  Also better and cheaper.

fishing user avatarMaggiesmaster reply :

I’ve used KVD and think it works pretty good, especially on mono.

Same experience for me. I first started using Seaguar Red Label and that stuff made me buy KVD line conditioner. I changed to Seaguar InvizX and it didn't need it. Now I use Sunline Sniper and it doesn't need it either
