Shimano Aldebaran Bfs..... 2024

fishing user avatarAllTerrainAngler reply :

So i found them online for 355.... And in a moment of weakness ordered one. It's the new model and i'm wondering if anyone has experience with them? Its the BFS LTD not the base model.... It looked so good and at the price compared to most sites i had to order it.

fishing user avatarDiggy reply :

I plan on ordering one when JLS sends me the restock alert, I slept on the last one and they were gone within 1hr. They are under 300 there and shipping isnt pricey. It's not something that I actually need but like you, Im weak. What are you spooling it with, light fluoro or braid for more capacity since the spool is shallow?

fishing user avatarAllTerrainAngler reply :

Sunline shooter 7lb. I'm pretty excited. Hopefully the S/O doesn't notice its new. lol

Write Abu on it with a sharpie, it'll fly under the radar.

Nice reel, I just grabbed one the other day to go with my regular bfs xg.

You picked an awesome reel for you're first shimano, also that's the perfect line choice.

What website did you find it on for that price?

fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

Japanlureshop, jpangler, a few vendors on rakuten. Their prices are based on the exchange rate. Places like JLS and JPAngler have a flat shipping cost for small items of like 12 bucks. Find those websites and bookmark them

fishing user avatarAllTerrainAngler reply :

189.... 189 for teh abse model aldebaran.... Thank you bootytrain. lol

fishing user avatarArv reply :

I got the xg and I love it. It's great with finesse things but can handle much more. I can't imagine the Ltd is going to be anything less than awesome. Very nice looking reel.

fishing user avatarsmallies24/7 reply :

Anyone know if the Aldebaran will still be $189 when its back in stock on japanlureshop?

It will still be that price. Thats not the 2015 model as to why the price was dropped so low but from what i've heard its still a really great reel.

I think they blew out whatever stock they had left now that there discontinued. $189 was an absolute steal for one of the best reels of all time !!

fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

Remember, these prices are based on the dollar to yen exchange rate. So they literally change every other day

Wow.  Nice looking reel.  Too bad it is above my price range.  Also I have enough other reels I use for light lures, that another one would be superfluous.  Unfortunately for me I belong to the group that believes you never have enough reels.  :teeth:

fishing user avatarMaico1 reply :

After spooling it up with some Sufix 21 6lb.,securing it on a PG BFS HardBait Finesse stick and tying on a Megabass Zero Hurry off to the shore of my local lake I went. What a sweet little tool this reel is, I must say I was not let down on how easy it is to reach out with this reel. The shoreline is loaded with weeds so I had to get beyond 15-20 yards to open water which was accomplished with just a flick of the wrist. Granted the Zero Hurry is a 1/4 ounce jig but still is representative of how easy this reel will handle the lighter side of baits . One thing for sure is I look forward to getting up to the lake and getting out in the boat to continue pursuing the lighter side of fishing. I do want to thank Matt (thehooligan) for giving me some very good insight to the lighter side however this slope is getting very slippery fast......

Haha, glad you're liking that combo. Get some pics up, I bet they match perfectly.

I've only had mine out once, I respooled with 4lb hybrid. Hopefully get out for a bit tonight...

I've had the urge to buy a bfs limited aldebaranmg for a while. And then no more rods or reels for a while.what rods do you guys pair with. I'd like to find a usdm rod comparable to a volkey 6 9 ul per se. Just so I can handle a rod before I buy. Pretty big deal for me. Reels not so much. I'm a shimano man through and through they've my trust.

What kind of weight are you going to be throwing?

1/8-1/4oz or lighter if I have the abilities. I'm thinking light jig heads with small grubs 4" senkos. Light drop shots light split shots. Small plugs and cranks. 8# line max

probably 1/4 oz at the most to as light as I can effectively fish. Small jig heads w/grubs splits shots drop shots mini cranks and plugs. Weightless 4 inch senkos...

Whats your price range for a rod?

fishing user avatarclh121787 reply :

After using higher end rods it's hard to go back. I.E. gloomis imx, orochii xx. I've yet to pay over 350 for a rod. So I'd say that would be at the top end for me. I have a 50echronarch and a scorpion 1000xt that I could possibly modify with drilled spool to use for bfs. And then probably still hanker for the bfs aldebaran mg limited and still give in to the bait monkey. Fishing for me is almost like beer for alcoholics. Got to have it.

fishing user avatarJohn G reply :

You could save yourself some money and get the Yumeya Shallow Spool for your XT1000 and you be able to throw lighter weight lures but not as light as the BFS XG. The Avail spools are also better at throwing lighter lures than the Yumeya spool IMHO. A big part of throwing lighter weight lures besides the rod is your spool. The weight of the spool and it's line capacity specifically. The Yumeya spool is not as light and it holds more line than the better shallow spools. I just bought a Major Craft MS-X Limited BFS rod to specifically throw really light hardbaits and to be honest, I am disappointed with it in that role. My Loomis MBR782GLX with it's very soft tip does a better job at throwing Strike King Bitsy Minnows (less than 2.5 grams) using the same Conquest 50 w/Avail spool does. I think that my MS-X will shine with unweighted plastics and very light finesse jigs so that is what it will be doing from now on.

fishing user avatarmasterbass reply :

I have the avail spool in my 51e on a klx finesse jig/worm rod.  I throw 1/8 oz jigheads and 3" grubs on it.  I also use it on a loomis imx cr 721.  Both rods handle the bait well.  I was intrigued in finesse fishing for a while, but quickly discovered that I don't use it nearly as much as I thought so I can't justify spending big bucks.  I'm happy with what I have for now.

fishing user avatarJohn G reply :

Keep in mind there is more than one Avail spool model for you XT1000. Japan Tackle has them for sale and a great description of just about every one of them I think.

Not a lot of USDM choices when it comes to BFS rods. I heard major craft is bringing their corzza line here with some bfs models

Check out the Major Craft Volkey BFS Rods.

fishing user avatarmasterbass reply :

I've heard a lot of good things about the Jackson "wretched" series.  The tackle trap carries them so I'd give Gary a call.  The Long Bait Finesse rod looks promising.

It definitely casts light lures a little better than the standard bfs xg. It's on a volkey 6'9 UL. I plan on getting a trout rod for it.

what are some of your favorite baits to throw on that set up

I've only thrown shimano Cardiff jerk baits designed for trout a couple of times. They were rated at 3.5 and 4.5 grams. To be honest I've not fished it much because I have so many reels it's hard to give attention to just one. I will be using it a lot more come winter and fall for trout.
