I’m looking for a new baitcasting reel that will go on a 7’ mh fast action rod, the setup will be an all purpose probably the only rod if I’d have to only take one. The reels that I was thinking are the lew’s custom speed spool, Daiwa tatula sv tw, and the Shimano Curado k if you have any experience with the reels, what are the pros and cons? What would each reel be good for? And which reel would you think is the best?
Thanks
I only have experience with the Daiwa, and it has performed superbly since I've had it, about two years now. Silent on the cast, takes very little adjustment, smooth and quiet on the retrieve, drag seems very smooth.
I have found no cons.
I have a couple recent Daiwa spin reels and they are exceptional too.
Stick with daiwa and Shimano. If you intend to throw lighter baits the Daiwa will be better. If you know you won’t go under 3/8 oz then the Curado will be best.

How is the distance with the Daiwa is it substantial less or not ?
Casts fine, I don't recognize an advantage or disadvantage compared to other reels. But they are not all set up the same either. Certainly not substantially less than any other setup.

I have a handful of Curados and Tatulas. You really can't go wrong with either. Both are great. Get a Curado K or Tatula CT in 6.2/6.3 gear ratio and you'll be set for all around setup.
Everyone is gonna make you think if it's not shimano or daiwa its garbage. I have a cple of the lews tournament pro lfs reels and they're fantastic for the 140 they can be had for. The curado k is a nice reel as well. The tatula sv didnt impress me like it apparently has a lot of people. I'd go handle them all and see which feels better in your hand.
Welcome aboard!
If I were in the market for a new BC, I'd take a long hard look at
Daiwa's offerings. I have experience with the Lexa and really liked
it. Son 2 of 4 is using it now as his own. I use a Chronarch 50e, used
to have two, but downsized since I use spinning more than casting.
As suggested above, Diawa or Shimano. Not that others don't make
fine reels, but these two make some darn fine reels.
Both are great reels. I have fished a Tatula SW TW and I own the Curado K and DC. If I had to choose, I would go with the DC or the K. I like the Tatula but I like the breaking systems on the K and especially the DC better. The Curados are also slightly smoother but its really is a personal preference. Casting is best with the DC but the Tatula is slightly better than the K. I don't think you could go wrong either way.

Do you fish the newer tournament pro or the older pro g ?

How much better is the dc unit ? Is the dc unit worth the extra money or not?
I've got 2 of the newest ones and have one of the pro g. Both are fine reels. The newer ones feel a lil smoother and better built but time will tell. Fished some of the ones before the g for several years and all still worked like new when I sold them. Still regret it

were you finding the newer ones for $140? Where?
Thanks

Is it worth it? I would say yes but it takes some getting use to. It is somehow slightly smoother than the K. I had heard of some people not having that great of luck with theirs but mine has been flawless. I have paired it with a St. Croix Legend Glass 7' M Mod and it will cast just about any crankbait a country mile without backlashing. I have been using it since the beginning of the year just about every weekend and it just keeps getting better.
Also, I was able to pick mine up from DSG online for $199.
I caught this one last weekend on this combo with a Megabass Deep X.

Looking for the 6.8 to 1 though

Helps to know that at the start. Right or left hand? Seek and ye shall find. Try a Search. Sometimes you have to wait for the deal you are looking for. Example: Walmart can have some very good deals, but you have to watch daily as the price fluctuates. One day you might get an item at 10% off and the next week 40% off. ebay prices vary as well.
Sportsmans outfitters has all 3 ratios for 139. Both of mine came from there. Have bought a bunch from them over the years

Sorry, I do not. Tatula CT 103 SV I think it is. But IMO, all Daiwa reels are very fine quality. I'm not bad-mouthing others, but I have recent experience only with Shimano and Daiwa.
So I’ve kinda narrowed it down to the Daiwa ct type r and the Shimano Curado k...
How does the Shimano preform with lures under 1/2 ounce?
Lol kinda where i knew that was going. Either of those reels will exceed your expectations

I was in the exact same position as you. I went the with the Tatula and my dad got the K a few weeks later. They both perform great but the K doesn’t do as well with baits under 3/8 oz, it also doesn’t skip baits as well. The K outcasts the Tatula but not by much. After a year of pretty hard use with both the K is still smooth as the day I got it, whilst the Tatula isn’t nearly as smooth. If I had to buy one again I’d definitely go with the K.

Okay thanks that really helped I’m probably going to get both I just realized I need to either get a new reel or attempt to fix it

How does the Curado k compare to the tournament pro ?

Couldnt tell you but I've been fishing with baitcasters 35 years and the tournament pro imho is better than any other reel I've used.

How did the tournament pro hold up?
Im not trying to be a smart Alec or anything but what do you think makes the tournament pro the best
I bought a new Lews tournament pro and a Daiwa SV zillion this year. I cant speak on longevity yet but the tournament pro has exceeded my expectations so far. It holds up well against the zillion! It doesnt feel or act like it's over 100 dollars cheaper than the zillion.

Does the tournament pro do well with both lighter and heavier baits ?

Haven't really tried anything too light yet. I'm primarily using it on my chatterbait setup. Tuning is easy and there have been times when I probably should have backlashed and didn't. Daiwa tatula/zillion SV is great with lightweight stuff though.

- I have the Lew's Tournament Pro, Curado K, and the Tatula SV. The Tatula excels at finesse baits but I am a little worried that the twing system will have a short lifespan. It is also very sexy riding the Tatula Elite Finesse rod its paired with. The Curado is the best built and feels solid. The Lews casts the furthest, but feels the cheapest. All 3 are excellent reels and you cant go wrong with any of them. They all setup easily and keep their contols where you set them. Lews also has a pretty cool hook keeper built in which I really like. i have a Curado DC coming this weekend. Hopefully it doesn't blow e away because I cant afford to switch everything out to the DC.
How much farther does the lew’s cast than the Curado k ?
And if you had to pick between the Shimano or the lew’s which would you pick ?
Maybe 5-8% when I really chuck it but that brake setting is 1 click from a birdnest so with any kind of wind, I would add more brake. I would recommend the Shimano for sure for its reputation and build quality! The lews was only $99 when I bought and I wanted to try all the high end reels (for my budget). Id like to check out a 13 fishing reel one of these days as well. For launching finesse tackle I would choose the Tatula. I should have included in my OP that all 3 fit my size XXL paws perfectly but if you have smaller hands, I think the Tatula would be the most comfortable. Lews is the only one that isn't dead silent. This is not an issue for me, but it sure is for most people. I am looking forware to the whine of the DC. As far as smoothness goes, if I were blindfolded and deaf, I wouldn't be able to tell which reel was which. Get the one that is the cheapest. If the K is less than $15 more get the K.
I have a tatula ct, tatula sv, lews tournament mb and a lews lfs. The tatula ct is my jigging and frogging reel. The sv does a little bit of everything.
The lfs is my oldest real and has been my reliable workhorse and has at one time done about every duty you can think of from weightless flukes to throwing 1.5 oz swimbaits.
The tournament mb is new to me and it just feels like a more refined, more controlled lfs and its very very small.
Up until about last year nothing could touch the lfs for its price. And even at $100 if someone asked if they should buy one I sure as heck wouldn't tell them no.

I have the lew’s laser pro that I got for $100 and I think that too is pretty good for the price....today tho the reel started to grind when I casted it today ☹️
I use the Lews Tourni Pro LFS w/ 50lb braid and it just casts light frogs like a dream.
Have a Curado 200K w/ 20lb Flouro that I use for 3/8oz & 1/2oz T-Rigs & Jigs, also cast like a dream.
Have a Tatula 150 w/ 15lb Flouro I use for swimjigs & chatterbaits.
I bought the Daiwa and Shimano because they were cool so I wanted to use them... all my other reels are Lews, and let’s just say I wish I had more Curado K’s. I’m putting together a new flipping setup and putting another Lews Tourni Pro LFS on it JUST because of the 20lb drag and I like how it handles braid on my frog set up, but I want to put a Curado K on it pretty bad. The Curado is so smooth and just feels great in your hand. It also feels like a more expensive reel than the Tournament Pro.

I have two. Fantastic reels in every way. Nice shape frame to palm it, very smooth retrieve, great easy to adjust casting, and a really nice spool. Also there are some on eBay right now for $129.00
