The last few years I have used Sunline Sniper, it has worked good for me. Have very few breakoffs, wish it was a touch more limp, but that may be the tradeoff for durability. Any other fluorocarbons out there I should look at and why is it better then Sniper (quality or price)? I know my old partner used Invisx, its priced about the same as Sunline and he seemed to have more breakoffs.
This is one of those things I don't have $ to try all the
good/recommended brands. I wanted to try Sniper, but
never could pull the trigger. I've used the old XPS, Red,
and a couple others.
Best so far, IMO, is Gamma Edge. And just for leader, I
don't go full FC for any of it.
i have tried XPS, hated it. Red isn't the quality I want, that stuff is super stiff.
Seems like they're all roughly the same price now, unfortunately. I tried a few new fluoros last year though.
1.) Sunline Assassin in 12lb. I used it for deep cranks and liked it. Very manageable, casted well, decent abrasion resistance. It's a bit cheaper (around $22 for 225 yds).
2.) Cabelas No Vis in 20lb. I used it for bladed jigs and didn't have any issues. Didn't really test its abrasion resistance though. I think it was worth the $9.99.
3.) Sunline Super Fluoro in 14lb and 16lb. I found a couple 600yd spools on sale for $20ea so I gave them a try. The 16lb was great. I used it for football jigs, texas rigged plastics, light jigs, and swing heads. Manageable, no break offs, just a solid line. However, I didn't care for the 14lb. I new it wasn't going to be quite as abrasion resistant simply because it was a lighter line, but I found it to be weaker than expected. It's fine for open water techniques.
I still think Trilene 100% is the strongest fluoro I've used. I really liked Seaguar Red Label for a cheap fluoro, but only in the 17lb and that has been discontinued.
I've tried them all. Sniper is the best bang for your buck out there.
For leaders I think Seaguar InvizX is fine for spinning tackle and AbrazX for baitcasting.
However, for mainline Tatsu is THE BOMB!
i personally like seaguar invizX i have sniper on my cranking rod but invizx and abrazx on the other fluro setups
Sniper is sort of a benchmark as far as "good at a lot, not bad at much" Fluorocarbon goes. Gamma is nice too, but pay attention to the diameters (16lb sniper is the same as "12lb" Gamma, even though Gamma says it breaks at ~17lbs). Gamma is also twice the price per yard as Sniper.
I buy Sniper FC when it's for sale online, and wiped out Sports Authority of all their Seaguar InvisX and Pline CFX when it was 50-75% off. All three work fine for me though some of the lighter InvisX seems to be a tad iffy on hard hooksets (8# and heavier is rock solid).
I really like Trilene 100% fluoro. No issues with break offs and it's still manageable.
I just bought a 1000yd spool of InvizX from Amazon for $81.00, 15lb, .013 diameter (really thin for 15lb Flouro). Do the math, that is a huuuge savings.
I just picked up the Berkley Vanish 10lb Fluorocarbon line today. Hope it's decent
Sniper is the only fluoro I've tried and I have no reason to switch other than cost. But I feel this is one area where you truly do get what you pay for.
sniper fits the bill for me too, aside from invizx it's the only fluoro i believe i have on any reels at the moment. and once that invizx is up, i'll switch that over to sniper too.
Best is in the eye of the user. Tatsu IMO isn't any better than Toray high end FC line, both are the highest price point.
Budget FC is a misnomer, you get what you pay for if you are lucky. Haven't read anything negative or anyone toting superlatives about Assassin, basically a lower price point than Sniper. What # test are you using?

Is that just mono coated with fluoro?
If Sniper "worked good" and have "very few breakoff's" and only wish it was "a touch more limp"
Try useing some Line and Lure the night before any outing.
IMHO, You won't be looking around anymore

My budget fluoro is P-line Ultimate Fluorocarbon in the blue and black box. You get 250 yards vs the common 200 or 125 yard spools. It has always held up well for me. This became my budget go-to after BassPro changed from the old white box XPS fluoro.
You're already using the one I would recommend after trying several different brands and models throughout the years. Best ROI of any I have used yet.
Don't have yrs of experience but tatsu and shooter has treated me well.
That said, I am considering going to braid for everything and swapping out the leaders
I like the Sunline Super Sniper best, personally. I've never used fluoro as a main line. I'm a far too poor to consider trying that. But, I did get some Super Sniper on sale to use for leaders a few years back and I STILL have some left! It's super sensitive, abrasion resistant and doesn't "seem" to have much stretch.
Like I said, I use it as leaders for any bottom presentations for smallies: small worms, tubes, craws, finesse jigs, wacky rigs. It's especially nice to not have my braid get destroyed on the rocky bottoms that are all over here. I'd guess that since I started tying leaders 2 seasons ago, I've saved 90% of the braid I start the season with. When you only need the amount to tie leader knots with, you really don't end up cutting much braid off!
Got some InvizX during the 25 day of xmas sale to test out this year too. While I love the Shooter, at 9.99 it was hard to pass up a spool of the Seaguar. Seaguar is pretty highly regarded so it'll be fun to branch out and see how I like it. The main knock on them is "more stretch" than other fluoros, which is probably a benefit for me when used as a leader for braid.
Seaguar InvizX for me. Used BassPro, & Berkley and I wasn't happy with either. I use InvizX on both spinning (up to 10 ib test) and 12-14 on my baitcasters.
Sunline Sniper is a good fluoro. I like it a tad better than Seaguar InvisX. Tastu is great stuff. I save during the spring and summer and wait on the inevitable 25% sale and buy a bunch.
Try the Sunline Assassin 15#.Strong stuff.

I agree with this, however bang for buck and fluorocarbon shouldn't be used in the same sentence. You get what you pay for here. Tatsu is the bees knees imo.
Shooter is my favorite, but best budget would be P-line 100% fluoro. The P-line runs a little big for it's test rating so you have to go a little lighter in the rating, but all P-line is that way.
Sniper is the best all around flouro , the line is very strong , not to much memory , and minimal stretch . you really can't ask for much more , Sunline makes the two best flourocarbon lines with Sniper & Shooter in my opinion , as i do not like stretchy lines . if you do like lines with a lot of stretch , check out seaguar lines ..
Tatsu or bust imo.
As WRB suggested, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I have used Tatsu fluorocarbon, and it is unquestionably high-grade fluoro (I'll endorse that statement).
Problem is, I was already a devout proponent of braided line so my tolerance for 'line-stretch' was quashed!
I kid you not when I say, before setting the hook with Tatsu fluorocarbon,
I found myself taking a step backwards to compensate for line-stretch (not good)

Red lable is good. Stiff. But good. Trilene 100% is also good. I love tatsu so much I just bought 3000 yards. Should be good for the next 5 years on line

3000 or 300?? 3000 is like 800 dollars worth of line

im willing to say 3000 yds of it is a stretch of the truth.Unless a picture arises
they sell 1000 yard spools for around $200 , he must have bought 3 spools for 600 .

So youre implying ive Shared false information. OK fair I guess some fisherman are pathological liars. Im really not flaunting or flashy. And certainly not fond of others who lie to create a favorable self image. I can only afford rent, and tatsu cause I shop at Ross, and wear 7 dollar out dated hurley shirts that didn't make the cut at dillards hehe.

You should accidentally cut off 15 feet then trip and drop it into an envelope and mail it to me by accident!
