...as demonstrated by my five year old son.
I bought this rod/reel for him today at Bass Pro Shops. The old "Spiderman" rig just wasn't cutting it for him anymore. He had a fine day...catching eight bass. Two were in the 2-2.5lb range. All were caught on some BPS "Stikos" that he picked out himself.
Nice job on catching those fish young man. Very nice video, thanks for sharing.
Get 'em hooked when they're young. Awsome! Almost time for a Revo
Mike,
He really put that rod to good use, swore I just saw you at BPS with the kids running around. Love the part where you mention the alligator swimming right at you and your son goes into high alert.

Same! lol
Awesome video, Mike. There's nothing better than getting the kids out catching fish. I bought both of my daughters their first decent rod and reel not long ago at BPS. Like your son, they outgrew the old stuff. Those Princess rods just weren't doing the job for them.

Yeah, Robert. Good seeing you at BPS, today.
My kids love going to BPS. My son already has been stricken by the bait monkey a little bit. I always let him pick out a pack of "bugs" (i.e. soft plastics) at BPS. I get home today and notice I've got FOUR extra packs of soft plastics. He stashed a couple extras in the basket (I did pay for them!). I can't get too mad at him though. I've been known to sneak a few extra baits past the boss myself...

Yeah, he did pretty good for his first time out with a spinning rod. This rod is about a foot longer than the ol "Spiderman" rig...pretty soon he'll be asking for a Dobyns, I'm sure.
The second bass he hooked today was a nice 2.5lb chunk...I look and the rod is pointed straight down at the water and drag is pulling out. I'm telling him to lift the rod and he says..."I can't!" Wish I had got that one on video, but I had to provide a good deal of assistance with that fish.
Here's his "big" one today...
Sounds like another bassin fanatic, Mike. Soon he'll be spending the allowance at the tackle store with his old man. Great stuff.
The part where he really gives it a good pull and gets up on his toes made me lol. Good job getting him started young!
Great job by your son! Well done!
Thanks guys. I'm gonna try and go back out there tonight and see if I can get a 3-4lber on camera. This spot is loaded with 2-4lbers.
Great video Mike. Your son looks like he is hooked for sure.
Awesome video. Be sure to save it, my "Little Guy" is 6'2" and it seamed to happen overnight!
lol hes better than me
fighting that fish must have been like fighting a tuna! this is great, thanks for posting.
That was great!
thats awesome man!
Awesome! Can't wait for my guy to hook his first bass!
A couple more videos of my five year old son, Luke (aka "Little Ike") catching bass on senkos.
That videos priceless
That's really heart warming - way to go DAD!!!
Thanks guys. I call him Little Ike...he's very animated when he gets a fish, has a competitive nature about him and he loves to fish. On this trip he caught about eight fish before I even picked up a rod. After awhile I picked up my jig rod and promptly hung a fat, six-pounder. He was PO'd...didn't talk to me for about a half hour. LOL. I wasn't a great Dad for awhile there...
Awesome, Mike! Boy, I wish my daughters sure enjoyed fishing like that. Good stuff right there.
Very nice videos!
I noticed in the first video, when you mentioned the word "alligator"
Luke back-pedaled slightly from the shoreline (smart boy)
Roger
Great post, great video. Thanks for sharing. I particularly loved it when he said How many fish he had caught that day..."Five"!
Great Video and nice to see him really enjoying
Man, that video made me smile! There's nothing like the excitement of a child. You're doing a great job spending time with him doing something you both enjoy.
Good stuff, he looks like good fisherman.
That is awesome... enjoy the time with your Son... they grow up so fast... and I am serious... my daughters are 18 and 16 now.. it is times like you are doing with your son right now that will leave them with impressions for the rest of their lives... there are things I did with my kids when they were younger that they bring up that I don't even remember but they do... like the time it started raining and I had told the kids we would make smores.. well we couldn't do it outside so I just turned on the burner on the stove and made them smores ... its the little things brother.. and you are doing it right... congrats..
