Heeeeeeeees BAAAaaaack 2025

fishing user avatarguest reply :

finally.   After over a year of pain, two surgeries,  and Physical therapy.

Avids in the house

My canoe with the new bass seat worked better than I could have imagined.

Excellent back support and very comfy.

Beautiful day here on Florida's historic Treasure Coast.  High temps in the low 80's.  powder blue skies. and a slight breeze.

Good thing too cause the bite was slow.  I guess the bass are still a little sluggish from the cold front.

Anyway I did manage to land a 3 lber a 2 lber and a few keepers.

Mostly it's just great to be back in the game.

fishing user avatarJimzee reply :

Good to see ya back in da house!  Can I come and live with you?  You had temps in the 80's, we had a high of 52 today.  I hate cold weather!!!  Glad you're back in the game.  :)

fishing user avatarBig_Bass_Rock reply :

That canoe looks like a pretty awesome rig for one guy, maybe two. Me and my friend were looking at some canoes, is there room in one for two people to fish?

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

Hey Avid, I'm glad to hear your back is doing much better :-) Cool boat too ! You shouldn't have any problem landing the biggest bass in your waters from that :-)

Continued healing, and fishing success to you,

Fish

Glad you're back avid! 8-)

fishing user avatarjwo1124 reply :

Hey Avid, I had some questions on fishing out of a canoe. RW said that you customized yours with stabilizers, and it looks like a few more accersories  :)

Just a few questions:

How much did the stabilizers cost? Are they easy to install?

How's that thing hold up to boat wakes?

Do you just load that in the back of your truck bed?

fishing user avatarguest reply :

The stabilizers transform a canoe into a highly stable platform,

I can stand without any fear of tipping,  set the hook with all force etc.

There is no way I would put a pedestal bass seat in a canoe without them.

Cabella's sells the srping creek ones which are what I have.

Their website is down but these castle crafts appear to be identical.

they currently sell for around $200.00 but are absolutely worth the price and more.

No tools needed.  Clamp on securely in 5 minutes.

My canoe will handle two people.  I fish with my 32 year old son sometimes.

He sits on the front bench.

I can't recommend using any canoe in an area where you will have bass boats blowing past you at 65 mph but that being said,  my canoe is more stabile than any riveted jonboat and cuts through the water like a knife.  The canoe itself is an Old Town Osprey.  Not cheap but very strong.

And yes, it fits easily in the back of my tacoma.  the stabilizers slide in and will hug the sides of the canoe.

Trust me.  With my shoulder and back issues, if I can load the canoe, motor, battery, and gear with no problems.  So can you. Just be smart.

at home in the garage the stern of the canoe sits atop a 100 gal. cooler, so I just lift up the nose and slide it stern first into the bed.

Then at the ramp.  I don't launch on the concrete boat launch, I use the grass next to it.  when loading from the ramp, I drag the stern up that little rise you see, and it's only a short lift to the p/u bed.  Of course the motor, battery are out of the canoe when I do this.

The canoe pix are with the digital cannon.  but the bass pix is with the phone cam.  The sun was shining brightly and I remembered to put it behind the camera.  I think it's worthy of Bassin magazine, don't you?  :-X

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Heck yeah! I heard a few years back that Bassin' magazine uses mounted fish in alot of their cover pics, it would be a nice change to see a live bass on one of those covers!
