So did anyone decide to take the challenge on today out on the lake? We decided to not take the boat out due to the nightmare of traffic on the water the past two years. I think the older I get, the less patience I have with the skiers, tubers, etc. LOL
Looks like it will be a day on the grill and I'll probably burn some food up due to me day dreaming of me being out on the water
If you went, share the 2017 Memorial Day fishing experience
I was out on Norris Lake Friday and it was already pretty bad, there's no way I'd go today.
I fished two lakes Saturday in Northern Wisconsin. The first one, had tons of boat traffic that made fishing difficult. Fortunately, there are hundreds of lakes in that area and we moved to a less congested lake that had minimal traffic and we hammered the smallies and largies.
Fished a little pond by the house for a few hours this morning. My son and I were the only ones there. Ended with a dozen bass - all on Booyah pond magic spinnerbait. Peaceful way to start the day.
The weather is miserable here, I used the morning to throw some new line on though.
The Holiday Boat Traffic Insanity was job security for me of a long time and I was smack dab in the middle of most every one.
However, those days are done. And as a retired human I'll leave the water to those souls who can't be out there all next week.
Like I will be ~
A-Jay
Got 3 days on before and will likely get one day after. Perfectly content to give the fools one day to be on the water. I've already seen enough stupidity to know I didn't want to be out there today.
Was out Saturday and sunday.
Potential storms kept traffic down.
I saw zero boats on saturday...zero. On a very popular lake but we launched deep in a looong no wake zone. Sunday on same lake had some traffic but not as bad as i anticipated
Went out for an hour this morning.Caught one but we have rain coming and it's in the low 50s.Not a good day to fish for me.
The weather up here should be keeping almost everybody off the water and I'd love to be out fishing, but unfortunately a current health issue will be keeping me off the water as well.
I had the kayak on the river yesterday and caught around 20 smallies. I was hoping to get out again today from 6-2 or so, but work up to thunderstorms and decided that sleeping was a better idea.
I was surprised. Not a whole lot of boats out, and the only kayakers were large groups either doing the family thing or drinking their way down the river. I actually ran into the fish commission at the launch and they were pretty shocked to not see a lot of folks on the water anywhere.
Also, yesterday I became a believer in the Ned rig. I fished behind three guys in a boat throwing Senkos for a stretch and the TRD picked up 4 fish after three guys hammered the spot for an hour. The TRD, drifted in current like nymphing for trout, might be my new favorite helgramite imitation.

we went out on Lake Norman early Sunday morning, by 10 it was a mad house. i decided to tie up some loose ends today and skip the insanity.
Went out with my son to an old rock quarry. Caught a bunch of bluegill and a 3lb largemouth
I went on Saturday morning early and by 11am when I was trying to leave, the entire parking lot (125 spots) were full and there were at least 10 large recreational boats just sitting in line at the ramp waiting for someone to leave to have a parking spot. Luckily the weather has been somewhat questionable this holiday weekend. If its warm, sunny, and a major holiday weekend, I refuse to be out there simply because everyone else is.
I went out today, possibly against my better judgement... Only caught a dozen in a few hours amidst a crap load of drunk pleasure boaters. Saw a few drivers so drunk that they were swerving all over the place, I saw one run into a shoreline. I managed to not get dumped or ran over (although I did spear two wake boarder waves), but I'm not sure how someone didn't end up crashing into another boat or completely wrecking there boat on the shore. I think security needs to spend less time enforcing no-wake laws and more time on drunk drivers.
Took my second eldest son out today on Harwood's Mill.
Tough day to fish, snot grass was awful, but for me, Ned
once again saved the day!! 2.5 lbs on the Boga!
My son caught a 1-1.25 lber on a wacky rig. I had another
nice bass, but must never had hold of the hook as it got
off in some thick grass.
As a bonus, got to meet @IgotWood as we were pulling
out, he and another fisherman were putting in.
I braved the lake today and got rewarded

Nice Memorial Day toad. Did you get a weight on her?

No weigh as I caught her at 630 am and wasn't heading in till around 2, so I just got pictures and a length (27 inches). She was released

27" would be in double-digit range, man! Awesome catch!!

I'd guess somewhere between 9 - 10 lbs. I caught a 9 lber there and it was 26 and a quarter inches a few years ago and this fish was bigger
I went and got skunked . It wasnt the boaters , I just made all the wrong decisions . The lake was high and muddy and all caught were a few white bass . It was actually my first real time out this year . I might not get back out for awhile . Health reasons . I have my fingers crossed .

Good luck, thoughts and prayers headed your way!
I'm in private lake and my long time fishing buddy can only fish today so we went out. I don't know it him or I, we never had a good success fishing together, and again today prove it right. We caught nothing, he got two bite but didn't get hook up. There were a lot of water skier on the water which was also suck for us small jon boat.
Anyway it was a fun day for us especially for me since I've been a lone wolf for quite some time.
Went out Sunday afternoon. Water temp was 81. Lot of boats, jet skis, and wind. Caught a few back in a small shallow cove on plastics. Really wanted to fish the points on the main channel, but the traffic chop would have made it difficult.

WOW! With a catch like that, I would probably face any boat traffic LOL! Nice catch man. Really nice.
Well, I said I wasn't going to try but the father-n-law and I said what the heck. So we went out late this afternoon into the early night. We were lucky to have left when we did. Storm came up in a hurry but it was nice. Left the Triton home and took the 18' out for the first time since we gave it an overhaul. The running lights we installed were great! I see more night fishing on the horizon
I sat back and read about the foolishness on the lake from the comfort of my Bark-o-lounger. I saw a grounding and a boat fire by noon via the internet. Weather was iffy as well so I didn't need any more encouragement to stay off the water. It's going to be busy until fall now.
If I fish any of the "busy" holidays...IE Memorial day, fathers day, 4th of July, and Labor day. I get there early, and try to be off the water by noon.
I fished Sat afternoon, and Sunday AM this weekend. Boat traffic was minimal Sat, but by 9:45 Sunday was already getting stupid.
I elected not to go yesterday, but not because of boat traffic, but because fishing has SUCKED bad here the last few weeks. I found better things to do like clean guns, reload ammo, and take a nap.

Took my son and 2 grandsons out for some bank fishing for a couple hours at a local park. Was awesome...hooked three bass...landed one keep. Wore out the bluegill....wore out.....they loved it. Storm came....we left
My family went to a super busy beach town in here in Michigan (boardwalk, shops everywhere, most popular beach for people in my city etc.) and I decided to try my luck in the channel. I was hoping for some smallies, but I ended up with a whole bunch of freshwater drum, a sub 14 inch smallie and a nice largemouth. I had a boat coming in from lake michigan stop to watch me land the LM and another crowd of people watching behind me on the pier. I havent measured a fish in a year or so, but I believe that this is my PB bass.

It is kind of a weird angle. It looks narrower than it really was. It is definitely a drum (we usually call them sheepshead). Maybe they look a little different in great lakes systems. These channels are littered with them, they are a blast to catch and they eat absolutely anything (ie my tube). People even target them up here with little cleos, though they are still considered a junk fish.
Holiday weekends are times to fish out of the way places to avoid the insane amount of boat traffic.
For me it was a matter of getting on the river early. Once there I knew everyone would be going left from the dock so I went right.
I fished a 12 acre lake Friday and Saturday. I was really surprised because I was the only one on it until around 1:00 PM on Saturday. Then I decided to get home before it got too crazy.
Only fished Sunday afternoon and Monday. I expected a real zoo on Sunday, but people must have either limited out or got tired of trying as there were parking spots left at the landing, with some still parked along the road. Had to wait 20+ minutes to put the boat in the water as some holiday warriors cut in front of me only to park in front of the ramp and load everything in the boat. I got the last laugh though as they forgot to put the plug in. Saw a pontoon run through a stump field and smoke one pretty good. My gf was with and we did a little bass fishing and crappie fishing to keep her reeling something in since it's been a while since the last few trips she's had have been tough. It worked out well as we caught a nice dinner of crappies and she hooked into her new personal best largemouth. She was pretty stoked, and I was happy for her!
Sunday afternoon, I went to a little lake that most people don't even know exist. On and off rain and wind made me debate how long I wanted to stay. Managed to get caught in a small thunderstorm that actually hailed on me. It was quick moving though, and passed in about half an hour. I caught a few fish including this sunfish that decided it wanted some of a 7" lizard but nothing special. I did finally get one big girl to come out and play. It was just a half inch shy of tying my pb and made the trip totally worthwhile. All in all a pretty good memorial day weekend.
I went out on the home lake at crack of dawn. Fished until 10:15. Caught 2 on my little spinnerbait, 1 on a ultra vibe speed worm, 1 on a zoom Z- hog, and finished by catching 3 on a speed craw.
Had to work hard for these fish.Summer is here in N Fla.!! Going to start night frog fishing ?.
