Any Kansas anglers want to have a Kansas tournament?
This would be a for fun event.
This could be on any lake and any Saturday next year.
Also open to all fishermen bank or boat.
No entry fees no prizes just Bragging rights.
Looks like we have a lake, Bone Creek and a date March 8th.
I'm up 4 it!
I could make an appearance depending on the time and the place.
Well looks like we have three interested kansas fishermen.
I thought we would have more interest in this but oh well.
Lets put our heads together and pick a lake and a weekend.
well i guess since nuclear penguin said he would do it, that means i will too... plus we can use my boat or hopefully he gets something a lil better than mine by that time
Heres a lake that is centrally located in KS. Very user friendly for boaters or bank fishing. Lots of cover and lots of catchable bass
Lyon State Fishing Lake
http://kdwp.state.ks.us/news/fishing/where_to_fish_in_kansas/fishing_locations_public_waters/region_5/lyon_state_fishing_lake
I'd be up for it. Bone Creek, Big Hill, Hillsdale, Lone Star, Coffee Co. or La Cygne would be my choices but wherever I would try to make it.
supposedly bone creek has gone down hill from what i have heard, i fished there for the youth qualifier their a couple years back and loved it... I like bulter county lake but i don't know if that is too far for some of you guys or not
Quotesupposedly bone creek has gone down hill from what i have heard, i fished there for the youth qualifier their a couple years back and loved it... I like bulter county lake but i don't know if that is too far for some of you guys or not
I fished Bone Creek 8 - 10 times this summer and trust me, it has NOT gone downhill much. No, you can't go out and catch 30 or 40 twelve to fourteen inch bass, but you can get quite a few 16 to 18 inchers fairly regularly with an occasional 20+ incher. Butler Co. would be fine too, as well as Winfield Lake.
Bone creek sounds good then, i fish butler all the time. I need to expand my lakes, so i can get better at finding the spots and locating bass since butler is just an easy read. i've never fished winfield but that would be a far drive for the people up north. I'm game for anything to the east of wichita, and since nuclear penguin is in pittsburg i can pick him up if he doesn't have his boat by then.
OHHH!!!! the weather outside is frightful!!!
I can't get this song out of my head, for some reason.
id be up for a meet. i would rather the meet be on a bigger lake that didnt have HP restrictions or be a no-wake lake.
melvern would be a good place to chase both large and smallies.
I don't have a very big boat, and melvern is pretty freakin big. i go to a no wake lake and still run full throttle, it needs to be be like bone creek, alot of good fishing but accessible without a 30 minute jog with atleast my boat
I would be up for it .... depending on what what schedule will be like. I think Bone Creek would be ideal. No HP restrictions, big enough with those with big boats and very fishable for those of us with small boats.
I was out on bone creek today. from bout 830 till 1200 and caught 3 14" bass. All on a lil craw soft plastic, in the creek. if it is raining that lake is relly good.
I'm interested. Any thoughts on when this might happen? I sold my truck about two months ago and probably won't buy a replacement until spring to tow my boat.
Never fished bone creek, but it looks like a great lake for a for-fun tournament.
Early Spring? As soon as the ice melts
QuoteEarly Spring? As soon as the ice melts
Pshhhhh .... I was thinking maybe this weekend ;D ;D ;D
I hear Ya KU! We can all meet up with George Welcome at the Stick Marsh in Florida
I would like to keep this post active. it's very possible lots of guys are without power and unable to post or read mail >:(so if anyone is still interested vote for/ or suggest a location. After the first of the year we can zoom in on dates.
is this lake a fishing only lake? is it no wake?
It is a fishing lake only and it is 550 or so acres. you can run it only takes like 3 mins end to end with a 200 hp. I dont slow down throught the trees I just shut my eyes and go hard.
ABA division 128 runs at Bone Creek and I have read some good reports from there this past year. I have never been there myself. If we meet there does it have a shelter house or an area that we can do a cook-out?
No shelter houses at either ramp but fairly large parking lots. It doesn't matter a bit to me, but those driving Hummers and pulling new Tritons, you have to travel either 3 or 7 miles on gravel roads to get to a ramp
Several years ago when i fished the you state qualifier there it was a very good lake. We ended up just bringing grills etc for the food, i think me and my dad slept in the back of the minivan so i don't remember what the camping was like out there. It was well worth the drive to find that boat ramp, I just remember how clear it was, atleast it was the clearest lake i had fished a tournament which isn't much considering we fish all mud bottom lakes. But i was throwing a spinnerbait across some weed beds and watching the bass come chasing my lure was amazing.

We don't get that very often in KS, do we?
I'm a Missouri guy but I maybe interested, if you will have me. I'm looking to get my first bass boat this winter and I'll be looking to expand my horizons after being shore bound for my entire life
It looks like we have a lake. Bone Creek.
Now we can start on the weekend that works for everyone.

Hammer Bone Creek is just over the horizon so come on over we wont hold being from Mo against you. But watch out for those KU fans You would be more than welcome.
I went to the Mo. get to gether last year and had a ball even though it was close to Columbia. : I've got no problem with someone coming from Mo., Ok., or wherever. The entry fee over there was a couple of lures, with the winner taking all. If we get enough, maybe we could pay two or three places. Just a suggestion because it's just for fun, anyway. One question though, we might have to check with KDWP about a permit. Don't want to get anyone in trouble.
I will contact KDWP next week to check but if I read the regs. right we should not need a bass pass.

id be scared to get caught with something under 18" without being sure.......lol

That's for sure.
I'll have my MU gear on when I show up so you all will know who I am ;D
BTW, got snowed out today trying to go see the boat I want. Its not much, '78 procraft that has been rebuilt from the 'ground' up with a 50 hp merc. Fits my boating experience, I have never had a boat that didn't have sails

Your not as crazy as me then. I went last weekend in the snow 16 hours round trip for a 78 Ranger with a 50 merc. Did find that My Tacoma had no problem pulling it in the worst weather.
78 Procraft sounds like a good boat and already rebuilt too.
Hope Y'all had a Merry Christmas.
To the Top!
And a Happy New Year!
Bone Creek it is!
Date--
any suggestions?
Here it is!
Saturday March 8 at Bone Creek !
PM me or post on here if interested and we can get this ball rollin!!!
If I'm not fishing Fork that weekend, I'll be there wearing my Orange Bowl Champions hat and tee.
All right, here's the best I can do:
1. Get to 69 Hwy. You're on your own here.
2. From the north; go about 13 miles south of Ft. Scott to 680th Ave., go west on 680th 2 miles to 200th St., turn north on 200. 200St. IS the boat ramp a little over a mile from 680th Av.
2b. From the south; go about 4 miles north of Arma to 680th Ave. then do the same.
Warning, the last three miles is on gravel roads but the boat ramp is double, concrete, and has a small dock.
Bone Creek is a lot like Lake Fork with it's cover, so DO NOT run on plane outside the boat lanes and main lake.
Your closest motels will be in Ft. Scott, about 20 minutes north of the ramp or Pittsburg, about 20 minutes south of the ramp.
The better food and adult beverages are located in Pittsburg.
There is another ramp at the west end of the lake, but that means five more miles of gravel roads and it is more difficult to find.
Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
Thank You
ring fry
Thanks also Ring Fry -Found it on Google Earth!
Looks nice!
have we decided on entry fees? also i read on the KDPW web page that 13"-18" fish can be kept....i think. we might also make sure theres no other tournaments that weekend or the weekend before, a lake that small wont take all the pressure. i know my clubs first tourny is the same weekend.

The more we have the better it will be! Lookin to have a good time meetin and greetin new friends around the area.
I'm looking pretty good but I have to maintain bubble status until we get closer :-[
I am hoping things fall into place for me, I would love to put some names with faces, etc. Plus I have never fished Bone Creek and have heard a lot of good things about it!
I plan on being there
Looks like we have are a go at Bone Creek.
Today I talked to Gary Smith the contact person at Bone Creek.
Nothing else on that date so we are a go.
They are even looking forward to having us.
Hi guys. I just found this site last week. I love it, very helpful. But anyway, I've been reading about your Kansas tournament and it sounds like you guys are gonna have a lot of fun. I've never fished Bone Creek, and unfortunately I won't be able to join you guys (I work weekends.) I'm from Edwardsville, don't know if anyone knows where that's at, but it's just east of Kansas City, a little north of Olathe. I live a few minutes from Wyandotte County Lake, and I fish La Cygne quite a bit. I spend a lot of time at the smaller lakes around here too, like Gardner and Tonganoxie. Well, I've rambled a little more than i wanted. I just wanna say good luck to you guys, and I can't wait to hear how it goes. It's great to see there are some people from my neck of the woods here. And I'd love to talk fishing with you guys. Well, good luck and have fun.
Welcome Kansasbass.
Sorry to hear you can't make it, everyone is welcome to join us.
With this weather we are having I'm sooo looking forward to fishing.
Welcome Kansasbass X2
Come on in The waters fine!
Welcome kansasbass. A friend of mine just moved from that area to Tyler and fished alot at Wyandotte as well. He only lived about 5 miles from there and had an aluminum Skeeter.
Hi everyone
Snow Snow and more SNOW....... :-[
Sure hope this passes before March 8th
What snow? We got no stinkin' snow down here! ;D
QuoteWhat snow? We got no stinkin' snow down here! ;D
Must be nice.......I must have got the stuff that you didn't, thought I got a double dose ;D
Hey Ring Fry I can bring you some of this stinkin snow if you like!
Plenty here to go around
Who's up for the meet?
I'll be there and have room for two or three in my boat if there is anybody out there who might feel left out by not having one. PM me and we can hook up.
I'll bring Brats and buns for lunch
I cannot make it boys. While I must admit I am more than a little diapointed =- - don't feel too bad for me. The force has pulled me to Lake Amistad !
I will try to make the next trip, thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to pull this deal together!
Good luck!

Quotemight be fishing in some very cold water. its not going to be easy getting over 50 degrees in a few weeks.
I'm starting to think the same thing. This weather just seems to be hanging in there.
We be fishin slowwwww!
I'm not telling where I put out that stock tank heater this weekend. ;D
I've never done real well at cold weather tournaments or cold weather period. Hopefully rays777 knows what he's doin, so i might be able to catch some fish.

ye have little faith ;D we all know im a good luck charm!!
ya only if isaacs on the boat
I'm planning on bring a grill with Brats and buns for lunch.
Can we get anyone to commit to plates , drinks, chips, etc or whatever you want to bring just post here so others will know whats already comin.
Would like to know some numbers, so if you will be or might be at the the meet PM me please.
If anything we can use the brats for handwarmers
Is that a brat in your pocket?
I know me and nuclearpenguin will be there, I can bring some plates and pop of some type
Yeah if Alex is bringing plates and pop, I'll bring a case of water and a few bags of chips.
With the way this KS weather is playing out, we probably won't need a cooler or ice. ;D
I haven't had a chance to make it out and see the conditions at bone. I went strip pit hoppin yesterday and pretty much every body of water has ice covering a majority of it (out of 8 spots we checked out, only 2 were fishable). I'll try to make it to bone by next weekend to see what's in store. 8-)
This Sat. looks like a decent day to check it out. I'll probably give it a shot, but the water is going to be really cold. I fished in west Texas the last few days and the water was between 45 and 53 down there.
Inquiring minds would like to know!
Let us know ! Thanks
ya jay, i know u don't do anything in college, so what does bone look like?
Bone Creek here we come
