Hey Wisconsin Folks! 2024

fishing user avatarshkyhnds reply :

Hey fellow Wisconsinites.  I am new to this forum, however have been bass fishing for 10+ years, mainly with top water and spinners.  Just starting to get into the plastic scene!  I want to catch some bigger bass!

Just wondering what other Wisconsin folks are on here and where are ya all located and fish, now you don't have to give me your honey hole ::)  just a general area!

I'm from the LaCrosse, WI area and do mainly all of my bass fishing on the Mighty Miss.  Mostly backwaters, been thinking of  getting into some of the lakes around the area.  But the bass love to hit topwater on the river.

Hey think warm weather and even warmer nights.  Need to get that water warmed up!

fishing user avatar10_More_Minutes reply :

I'm just north of you in Rice Lake. I fish mostly around my home area (within 60 miles) with a few trips further out. Almost drove down your way this winter for some ice fishing.

Still a couple feet of ice on the lakes up here, it's been a very looong winter.

That's a bit of an under statement!  I really don't know what you would call this winter, but at least it's April.

fishing user avatar10_More_Minutes reply :

Feels like Feb, we got 7" of snow on April 1. On the plus side we need the precip.

fishing user avatarsolman reply :

I'm near Madison and can walk to Lake Mendota (I usually take the truck if I'm launching the boat :) ). The ice is just coming off so I'll probably get the boat out next week but won't be thinking bass for a while (you know when the season opens). I fish Lake Wisconsin regularly and had a boat up in Door county for years (Ephraim). The small mouth fishing there is crazy - I'd get up around 6 and catch a few before breakfast right at the marina. I'm retiring this month and plan to try some new areas. So if you have any tips for the LaCrosse area I'd be interested.

Hey, it's nice to hear from a fellow Wisconsinite!

From Madison area huh?  I hear the water around that area is pretty high.  You folks got alot of snow this year (as we all did).  Glad this long winter is finally coming to an end.....except for the northern part of the state  :)!!!

Yeh, if you are ever planning a trip to the LaCrosse area shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to give you some tips/areas to try out.

Retiring this month....man congrats!  Wish I could say the same!  I have a few years left to go (to say the least).

fishing user avatartipptruck1 reply :

Hey Iam from the Wausau area. For any one south of hwy 64 and 29 season opens may 3rd. But only catch and release intill like june 20th. Any one north of that barbless and artifical only. But Iam glad I only live a few miles from great muskie and bass waters.

fishing user avatarTeamBerettaGold reply :

I am from Manitowoc WI.  Generally fish manitowoc county and sheboygan county lakes, along with lake michigan.  Also travel up north and fish the lakewood/townsend area.  Good to see some fellow wisconsinites on here.

fishing user avatarJ. M. Richardson reply :

I'm from the Waukesha Area and fish some of the lakes throughout Waukesha and Washington counties. I seem to have better success on the less crowded smaller lakes.

I recently pulled a 3.5 lb large (last year) out of only a 14 acre lake (real small, i.e. a rowboat and troller).

fishing user avatarmike bat reply :

im in green bay area .... i mainly do my bass fishing north of here ... however i fish the locals when i cant make it north ...  ;D

fishing user avatarCopen1822 reply :

I'm from SW WI but I'm going to school in Stevens Point. I love the amount of water we have to fish up here.

fishing user avatarFunnyFish reply :

fishing user avatarJ. M. Richardson reply :

Sweet, Another from the SE side of WI. Know of any good inland waters to fish? I'm not a fan of fishing Mighigan

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

Just "enlisted" with bass resource.  From Stratford, near Wausau.  We got a post office!  Cranks, spinners, and soon to see what these senkos are all about.  DO mostly musky, but want to get better at bassin.

fishing user avatarTeamBerettaGold reply :

Looks like great weather for the state wide fishing opener! NOT! Tuff conditions, but none the less excited to get out and do some bassin'!

fishing user avatarJ. M. Richardson reply :

Unfortunately, I don't get home from college until next Friday. Going to miss the season opener  :).

However, I plan on fishing both days the weekend I get  back (that is, of course, after I make a run to Cabela's in richfield).

fishing user avatarFunnyFish reply :

i dont know about inland fishing. sorry :) just go with some friends of mine on a their boat when we have time.

fishing user avatarJ. M. Richardson reply :

That's ok, I don't own a boat either, I mostly fish on my uncle's boat

fishing user avatardr.dock reply :

Watertown checking in here. Grew up Close to many lakes. I fish a local club.   we trek to Rice Lake every july for a weekend and fish on big chetac and red cedar. Those are probably my favorite lakes i have fished in WI.

fishing user avatarshkyhnds reply :

Went around the Goose Island area today and caught 7 largemouth and 1 northern.  All within 4 hours.  Most were small, had a couple nice ones, but released them all.  All were caught with spinners, fishing from the bank.

Hey it's great to hear from some other Wisconsin folks.

fishing user avatarCopen1822 reply :

Got out yesterday afternoon on some WI river backwater. NICE sized smallies were hanging out in 6-8 foot of water close to shallow areas and hitting the football jig good. Caught some smaller fish on a jerkbait then switched to the jig to get the good fish. Felt good to finally catch some fish on a jig!! FUN!!!

fishing user avatarS I G M A reply :

fishing user avatarBigEBassman66MH reply :

Hello fellow Wisconsin friends, its awesome to be able to post and converse with others from my area.  I'm 26 and have been bass fishing heavily since about age 13.  My cousin (fishing partner) and another of our good friends were teaching ourselves bass fishing tactics and buying top end gear while other kids our age didn't understand the concept of rigging a worm.  Anyways, to make a long story short we fish the Waukesha and Racine County area by far the most.  Small ponds to large lakes to even rivers.  I'm a FIRM believer that there is no one way to catch bass.  IMO its all about presentation and working lures in different patterns until you find out what causes strikes.  In the last 3 weekends we have caught over 50 bass between the 3 of us ranging in length of 12" up to 18" and 1 lb to 4 lb in weight.

Our list (honestly) of lure types used have been crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs and top water.  Not bragging by any means and if it appears that way I totally apologize.  I'm just trying so assure fellow Wisconsinites that even thought this is not the lunker bass heavy south, there is still hope.

Still, regardless of water body type or weather, I personally believe  that spinnerbaits and jigs will always prevail.

Wish all you folk the best and great luck fishing.

fishing user avatarJoshawa reply :

Nice to see some people fishing in some lakes I've actually been to, or could day trip to for that matter.

I live in the green bay area and try to get out whenever I can. Most of the time I get out on the pigeon pond or out to the clover leaf lakes (Shawano-Clintonville) but make it up to the Pickerel area on weekends.

I don't own a boat yet so I normally just piggy back with anyone thats going out and am always looking for someone to go with.

fishing user avatargravyfor3 reply :

im polk county... bout an hour from the twin cities but just on the wisconsin side :) i fish deer lake and st. croix river

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

I'm not exaclty sure.  Was visiting my brother up there by Luck/Fredrick area.  It's west/southsest of Fredrick.  We put in on the St. Croix for the afternoon last Saturday.  First time and it was awesome.

fishing user avatargravyfor3 reply :

fishing user avatarRiver Rat 58 reply :

im from stratford WI.  Its smack dab in the middle of the state.  Im related firefight15 though he probably wont admit to it.  Main fish the eau plane river which goes right through our back yard.  Other times i run up to spirit lake fifty miles north of here

fishing user avatarshkyhnds reply :

hey everyone....It's been a while since I checked this forum out.  Went out fishing last Sunday with my old man.  We went down by Blackhawk, just south of the Genoa Lock and Dam.  Man did we ever clean up on the bass!  Using Rat-L-Traps and worms! Caught about 4 dozen Largemouth.

I'm heading north to Fountain City this weekend for a small fishing trip.  Can't wait.

Anyone else noticing an abundance of minows in the water.  The bass don't seem to be hitting top water right now.  Just wondering if it's because of the abundance of minows?

fishing user avatarMIKE1218 reply :

Hey Wisconsinites. I live in Green Bay. New to the forum, pretty new to bass fishing. I don't have a boat, so I'm always looking for somebody to fish with. :)

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Welcome aboard!

8-)

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

Hey Mike. Can't do much for you over there, but if your ever in the Mosinee-Marshfield area I might be able to help. There is a couple here from the Bay area. Give them awhile, they should find you. Goodluck!

shkyhnds-Ended up with some of the Cavitron buzz baits awhile back.  Doing good with them on early morning runs.

fishing user avatarSunDropDaddy reply :

So I found this site a few days back..Originally from Clintonville/Shawano Area...Back in the day I did A LOT of fishing around East Central Area - School Section (iola), Clover Leaf Lakes (shawano), Shawano Lake, Cedar Lake (towards manawa), Wolf River, Embarass River, Legend Lake (Keshena)....Best lakes I think are Clover Leaf Lakes and Legend Lake...Clover is my favorite...3 lakes in one....

I reside in Wausau now and have no clue about the area...all I know is its great for Musky, bass, and Walleye here around Lake Wausau and Wisconsin River...only been out on the River once, no boat so I canoe it...Wife caught a huge smallmouth....

Looking for pointers on FALL fishing as its early october and I don't know what works here in the area....Also looking for other alternate fishing lakes within a 60 mile radius...Fishing to me is like Football is to die hard packer fans. :-X

fishing user avatarSunDropDaddy reply :

I been living out of state 5 years and have only fished this summer here in WI (mostly in Clover Leaf Lakes, shawano area)

Late June and beginning of July were GREAT...easy fishing...Went back down to GA until August...came back up...HORRIBLE.

I couldn't catch a fish to save my life at the end of August...Minnows everywhere...no fish anywhere for me...wife caught 4 in a trip, Caught 0...

Got to Wausau, caught my first fish in a month (about 12-14" walleye off the shore of Wisconsin River North of Lake Wausau)...

You lake wausau and WI River guys...what is the best part of the river?  Is it North or South of the Lake?  I have been fishing North of Lake Wausau with minimal success...

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

Hey SunDropDaddy, I am about 1/2 hr. from you. I might be able to help you out with river fishing up there.  Shoot me a pm.  Later.  ff15

fishing user avatartipptruck1 reply :

I fish lake wausau and the river all the way south to dubay. It seems like you really need a boat or your screwed. But hit lake-link.com. That site will help you.

fishing user avatarkayl. reply :

I live in the Milwaukee area but really haven't found many nice area to fish yet.  I've heard that Estabrook park is good for smallies, but haven't checked it out yet. Most of the other parks I've checked in the area were super shallow mudholes that I couldn't buy a bite out of.  Foxbrook Park in Brookfield is the nicest one I've found, but you have to pay to enter/park.

fishing user avatarBassaholic007 reply :

How did everyone's season go in WI? I was able to fish the Madison chain a couple times this year and did pretty good. What's the typical winning tournament weight out there? Do guys venture into Mendota at all for a big smallie in tournaments? Or is that too big of gamble?

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

Had a blast up here in the central area.  Hit 'em all summer in t he Medford/Riblake area.  Biggest I could find though was a 4#er.  Last weekend was the first time I could see any depth in my favorite lake for a long time being that the water finally turned.  On my retreival with a spinner I see this log coming straight up from the abyss and just smash it out of the water.  Pretty cool.  Not huge, but a 40in musky/15#.  Last fish of the season, unless I can make it out in the next couple of weeks.

anyone else?
