Well, im lookin at burning a little leave (a week or so) and headin out to jasper and fishing in this tourney. I am curious if anyone else from the forum will be there. (im sure catt and fishfordollars will be there). Also, anyone know of any good cabins/hotels that would have vacancies still for that week? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks all.
i am fishing it. hopefully several of my friends will let me stay with them.t
Fishfordollars, did you fish Rayburn last weekend? How'd you do? Do you have any reccommendations on places to stay? I dont really know anyone on the forum who lives in the area well enough. Where exactly will the weigh-ins be? I've read they'll be at cypress bend park, but not sure where that is, or what there is near the ramp for lodging options.

I am fishing it. hopefully Catt and Pat will allow me a place to stay. If not maybe Dan(txfisherman) will let me stay at his place over there. If not I will stay at another buddy's place over on Rayburn. It's good to have friends.

Yes I did. Caught lots of small fish. Lost a possibly money fish Saturday morning at 10:20. Only big fish i stuck in two days.
Jack, my place is open to you, i will be there I believe on Thursday, where i will be working on the tournament friday thru sunday, so let me know. I could possibly put up one more at the house, where I have an air mattress for someone. My place is located 3 miles south of Cypress Bend by water and located by Big Bass Marina. They are 2 launch ramps within 1 mile of the trailer and have power available.

sry wrong post but i will also be fishing mcdonalds coming up
Hope it isnt anything like last year.. 3 days of triple digit temps was a little harsh
I will be fishing all 3 days as well. I would reccomend staying at Harborlight marina.
How crazy is the boat traffic during these tournaments? I'd love to fish the splash but definitely not comfortable enough with my boating skills or boat for that matter. Also how hard is the bend to navigate? Never been on the lake.
You can expect more boats than you ever seen in you life!
Get you a map & start studying it now paying attention to the area where you plan on staying. There are members here willing to offer help if you let us know what kind of boat & your level of experience.
Ramp etiquette is an issue. Lines will be long and congested. If you are not comfortable running in the dark with a GPS just stay back and let the fools go. You will be allowed to trailer. Get to the ramp around 4:00am, get in the water and just relax. They will be out of the way shortly. Do your map study before arriving at the lake. Pick an area, launch as close as possible and be prepared to share. Boaters will come and go, cutting each other off and running too close at times. You won't be the only one that is unsure of the procedures. Just take a deep breath and concentrate on the fishing. Rayburn last weekend was not that bad. I was not cutoff one time, but i was a little leary running before daylight. Not my operating I was concerned with, it was the other ones running on plane in the dark knowing that they were unsure of what was out in front of them.
Nothing wrong with laying back and letting the rest get out in front of you. There will be plenty of unfished water waiting for you to attack.
Good luck.
FYI, all you weekend warriors that will run on the GPS in the dark. All the builtin maps on those units show the original lake outline. There will be plenty of islands, humps, and flooded timber that will show up as open water on your unit.It will all depend on the lake level at the time of tournament. If you have not run a track to and from your fishing spots beforehand with your GPS, just give it time for a little daylight to creep up from the east. Be wise and live to fish another day.
Let me know where you will be fishing and I will try to send you some cordinates that may help you. Just remember you can't run a straight line from the ramp to the locations.
Good luck to all.
Jack
definitely appreciate the heads up all the underwater obstacles. i still have to go get a map for the lake, as it will be first time on the water, but it's definitely not my first rodeo. I look forward to seeing ya'll on the lake. Take care, and if im not back on the forums before the tourney, good luck to ya'll.
It's a good thing I am working that week, I would have been supporting Catt and Jack for another couple of fishing trips. But seriously, a very good point about running at night and relying on electronics that were not checked out in advance. All three of my maps from 10+ years back were
nothing like the current conditions on the lake in regards to the boat lanes, which I found out last April. I have since purchased an updated map, and have been trying to re-learn the boat lanes and started marking way-points and such. There was still green and red main river buoys when i had to take a leave from fishing awhile. It has really been fun searching different areas of the lake this spring. I have been as far north as Bison, and south this past trip to Pirates Cove. Catt, I know you probably don't need a map for the bend, however for us rookies, which map would you recommend now for navigation purposes. Or better yet, you could give me that old marked up map you have tucked away, since you don't need it anymore. !!

You may need to talk to Jack since I do not own a GPS or any kind of electronics that show boat lanes. As for which map (paper) for navigation purposes...NONE!
Oh yea I still carry a map in my boat & have one hanging on the wall in the camp for finding structure.
Even after 39 years I'm still find new structure
I got a map just yesterday, and if the lake is anything like what my map shows (AID lake maps) i'm glad im gonna have two days of pre-fishing to figure out the boating lanes. Looks like a mine-field. I even found a nice place to stay, Driftwood Motel up off of Highway 1215. I do have on more question though.
Catt, I saw your comment about being allowed to trailer, but what about coming in by water for the take-off. Back in '06 at the ABA Championships on Kentucky Lake, we were allowed to ride in by water from where we were staying on the lake in the morning to make launch. Just curious since it looks to be about a 6 mile ride by boat vs. about a 15 mile ride on land, just to put in.

There is no offical take off. You tune in to 105.1 and listen for them to call out the first cast @ 0600. Other than that you can launch from anywhere on the lake, make sure you have life jacket and kill switch on. If you violate any rules you must go into the weigh in site and get cleared by an offical to resume fishing.
Just my two cents. If the Driftwood you are referring to is the same as Ethel's Driftwood, you might want to rethink your choice. It's very old, but under new management. I was there a couple of weeks ago and spoke with the manager. I was told that they did paint the rooms and clean !! The Sabine Inn ( Motel 8 ) on the Texas side is very clean and in a good central location. Rooms-69.00 a night. There is a public launch 400 yds. down the road. A couple of good places to eat next door and back across on the La. Side. Winds and waves permitting you are a 10-15 min. run to 1215 area- north. If you are set on fishing the 1215 area, you probably would be better off launching on the old highway-free. If you launch at the North Toledo Bend state park ( Not sure of the fee )- you still have access to 1215 - idling following the bank, which i did this year if the waves or too bad to run, or go up Sam-Miguel. Of course the Driftwood launch is about the same as North TB state park,- but I was charged 5:00 bucks a couple of weeks ago. I apologize to any of you if I offended you suggesting that It.scrap not patronize a certain hotel or launch, but times or hard, and I know i have to save where i can.
My only problem is everywhere else was booked up. If there were somewhere else closer that still had vacancies, I would. If anyone is aware of any vacancies closer to the weigh-in site, please let me know.
Catt - thanks for the rule page, I had looked over the site and couldn't find it. Guess I'm not as computer-literate as I thought.
