Questions about Daiwa Coastal TW Casting Reel
Q:
i am confused about left and right handed. I rotate the reel knob by my right hand... is that a right hand then?
Answer: Its refering to what hand you retrieve with. On typical spinning reels you can switch the handle and if you cant you normally cast with the right hand and reel with the left hand.
Answer: I'm right handed and for years I bought right handed bait casting reels. A few years back I started buy left handed bait cast reels, you're used to using a spinning reel with your left hand retrieving, no difference to me. The plus side to using a left handed bait caster is now I don't have to switch hands after casting.
Answer: Yes, if you rotate the handle with your right hand you will use a right hand reel model.
Answer: This is an image of a right handed reel. Why they're displaying it upside down is beyond me.
Answer: I’m right handed but it feels more comfortable reeling with my left
Answer: Yes
Q:
lefty or righty?
Answer: This is right handed
Answer: Hello
Answer: Hey SELLER!!! If you would fix the pics, folks would not be so confused by your offering!!! Dang pics are UP SIDE DOWN!! TURN THEM OVER!!!
Q:
Can't tell by the pic or description, is this a level wind reel?
Answer: Yes , this is a level wind reel.
Answer: Yes it is with a new design. It works very well.
Answer: Yes it is. I love it
Answer: Yes
Q:
If I wanted to reel with my left hand I should get the “one size” ?
Answer: yes same size for left hand
Answer: Then buy the reel with left hand orientation, regardless of size. These reels come both ways. By the way it's a very good reel. No issues with mine thus far and it's over a year old.
Answer: Yes.. also have to think about how your going to apply. I got the right hand only bc I flip mangroves with it and that’s what fits my hand best
Q:
If this is a 2015 model anyway to get the latest version of this reel not the 150
Q:
Will it work/fit on a st croix mojo inshore 7’ hf ??
Answer: I have it on a jigging Travolta Shimano rod I have 200 ft 20 lbs brad
Answer: Yes, I use it on a 7ft falcon lowrider medium heavy fast action.
Q:
this reel has 7.3:1 gear ratio, so , does it have the crank power like lower gear ratio reels like 5.5:1 Lexa to "winch" fish up when bottom fishing?
Answer: This is a high grade finesse baitcaster made for casting, 10 to 20 lb. string. I have done some shallow water rock fishing with it but I would not use it out in the deep for a winch........ this reel is way to small for that. I use mine mainly for surf casting, perch and stripers Montery bay area!
Answer: This reel is awesome - it is my second one! I still fish with my first one I fish for specks, Redfish and Alabama River Spots - it will do what you need and smooth - it is beyond smooth!!!
Answer: This reel will cast a country mile!
Q:
how much 20 or 30 lb test mono line will it hold rh
Answer: I only use 17 lb test
Q:
Does anyone use this with a conventional surf rod? If so, what size (length, power and action)?
Answer: This reel will work well with a 9 or 10 foot medium action surf rod. The Daiwa Coastal TWS reel is a good choice for this application.
Answer: It'll cast but you need more line than it holds for all the surf casting I've ever done.
Answer: I have used this as well with my 8’6 Shakespeare elite.
Q:
What is return policy?
Q:
Body materials graphite or aluminium?
Answer: Daiwa’s new Coastal-TWS 200 Inshore baitcaster has TWS system and all Corrosion resistant ball bearings to help keep the saltwater out. It has high strength gearing material and 100mm Swept Handle with custom EVA handle knobs for more cranking power. The 200 size A7075 aircraft grade aluminum spool has 35% more line capacity than the 100 size. Combine that with Ultimate Tournament Drag with up to 15.4 lbs. of drag max and you have a strong and durable inshore reel.
Answer: Aluminium....nice reel...i use it only in saltwater and holds very good
Answer: Aluminum
Q:
Why isnt there a left handed option? it offer 'right handed' and 'one size' at different prices.
Q:
The description says left hand but answers say right handed - is the one size option a right hand retrieve?
Answer: I've ordered 4 of these and they are right hand retrieve reels.
Answer: When it has the letter L at the end of model number hsL. It’s a left hand retrieve. HS Is a Right Hand
Answer: They make both models, righty and southpaw. Pick your hand. They can't be switched. And it's still a heckuva reel after big redfish and trout and flounders.
Q:
Is this recommended for Saltwater trolling for Salmon? 2lb ball?
Answer: Reel is not designed for heavy weights. Ok for a downrigger, but not a 2lb ball. I use mine for shore casting lures 1/4oz up to 3/4oz.
Q:
Will this work well on a topwater rod for both bass/snakeheads in fresh and trout/reds in salt?
Answer: I use mine (have 4 set ups wiith them) on tops, cranks, soft plastics, salt/fresh... They're so good, I dumped all my old Curados.
Answer: Well, I've not tried it on bass and I never saw a snakehead, but the reel casts beautifully with braid or mono and the drag handled a big 25 lb red last summer near Pawley's Island with Capt. Steve Roff of Barrier Island guide service. We were all amazed at how far it would cast with braid and no backlash. Serious, buttery smooth drag. I've tried all the good ones and its the best to date.
Answer: A little much for Topwater don’t know about snakehead
Answer: Absolutely yes! I use my Daiwa Coastal on my top water outfit, works well and you should no problem.
Answer: Yes.. i love mine . Caught many reds.
Answer: Yes when I’m not using this reel for redfish this is my top water frog setup.
Q:
I'm seriously considering one of these for my spinnerbait fishing hoping to gain 15-20 yards per cast. Is this the reel to go with?
Answer: It’s a good one for sure
Answer: No
Answer: If you’re throwing 1/2oz to 3/4oz spinnerbaits it’ll do good. Wouldn’t cast anything under 1/2oz.
Q:
Is this Japanese or American made?
Answer: Box says it's made in Thailand.
Answer: Made in cypress California
Q:
It says it has a metal spool. What about the frame is it plastic or metal?
Answer: Metal frame with plastic covers. This is one sweet reel.
Answer: Frame is anodized aluminum and stainless. Very durable reel. I'm in my 3rd season of using them and so far, only maintenance has been to clean the outside and lube with CorrosionX. Have 4 of them... all smooth as butter still...
Answer: Metal
Q:
Can someone plz tell me what is a good baitcaster for saltwater fishing thanks.
Answer: The best out there. I have 10 of them. I fish them hard and often with great results. Randy
Answer: I would stay away from the TWS costal. Mine was great for the first few trips, but the worm gear failed out of the blue. Sent it into to DIAWA well within the warranty and diawa said they wanted to charge me over $60 for a faulty gear. Sold both of my Diawa Lexa's that I loved as a result of the horrible customer service.
Answer: I highly recommend the daiwa coastal TWS. Lightweight and corrosion resistant. Has a better line capacity for being a lower profile reel. I love mine so far. Smooth drag.
Q:
What’s the difference in the two real options
Answer: probably right and left hand wind, since one says "one size " and one says right hand. I bet if you order "One Size" you get left hand wind. Other than that, who can say? But it is a really great reel.
Q:
Is the one size a left handed
Answer: Comes in either right or left hand!
Answer: This one is left handed
Q:
you have it with a left hand retrieval?
Answer: Yes I do
Q:
What is the line capacity?
Answer: I was able to put roughly 150 yards of 40lb braid on it.
Q:
Would this reel work on a daiwa proteus® wn rod?
Answer: Yeah as long it’s a casting rod. NOT a spinning rod. I paired it with a phenix M1 inshore 7-11. Works great !
Q:
It says right but description has it listed as left. Whic is it?
Answer: This coastal reel is right handed. That means that you hold the rod in your left hand and reel with the right hand.
Answer: They make both so make sure you order for the hand you want to wind with.
Q:
Is the one size the tws200hsl?
Answer: Don't know. Look at Diana website.
Q:
Would this be good for swimbait fishing
Answer: Should work great for swimbaits depending on rod selection. I use mine with a Dobyns Fury 735C rod for fishing larger swim baits and top water plugs inshore for snook and reds with 30lb braid.
Answer: Yes, this reel works very well for swimbaits.
Answer: Yes. It's fast enough.
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes definitely
Q:
Will you ever sell the left handed version? I would really prefer that
Q:
Are these reels available inleft hand retrieve?
Answer: Yes
Q:
can this be used for salmon
Answer: I'd say yes. The line capacity with braided line is more than sufficient with 20-30 lb test line. Drag system is more than capable and if coupled with a 7-8 Ft MH rod would make a fine rig. I use this reel for inshore fishing and have zero issues with landing large reds, specs, blues, and Snook. With proper care when fishing salt water, it should hold up well. Rinse with fresh water after every use and lubricate regularly. Really impressed with casting distance.
Answer: You sure can. I would spool the reel with 20 lb braid and use 15 lb fluorocarbon leader. I personally use 10 lb test for pier fishing and and a 101/2 foot light rod to catch chinook and coho in the Great Lakes.
Answer: Sí, peces más grandes sin ningún problema podes pescar
Answer: Yes...any kind of fish
Q:
Will this reel sit well on an Okuma Nomad? Looking for a new combo.
Answer: As long it’s a “ bait caster “ rod. NOT a spinning rod.
Q:
Does know if the bait adjustment clicks as well as the brake..i have a zillion hd and love it..everything clicks like a quality watch on this..
Answer: No bait clicker on the 200 coastal. Only a spool tension and brake adjustments. Awesome reel for throwing big lures.
Answer: Absolutely! Sealed great for saltwater usage and with the T-wing backlashes are virtually none existent. Awesome awesome reel.
Q:
gear ratio? line copacity? reel weight? how many ball bearings? the reel looks cool but no specs are desplayed, pls help.
Answer: It says it's the CLTW200HSL which is a 7.3:1 gear ratio. 7CRBB+1RB, reel weight is 8.1oz. Mono 14/164, 17/125, 20/100. Braid 40/190, 55/145.
Answer: Google is your friend...
Q:
What is the line capacity of the LH reel for Mono-filament?
Answer: MONO: 14/165, 17/125, 20/100
Answer: :) that depends on the line size. I would contact Daiwa.....
Answer: 195 yds 12 lb test
Q:
Does it have bait clicker?
Answer: No the only part that click is the star drag. But for it being a 200 class reel a clicker is not needed.
Answer: No, it does not have a bait clicker.
Answer: No bait clicker.
Answer: This Daiwa reel model does not have a bait clicker feature.
Answer: No
Answer: No it doesn’t.
Q:

Answer: no he tenido nigun problema con el reel, anda 10 puntos
Q:
Why is the pic of a left handed reel? Is this reel right handed?
Answer: It is right handed. The picture is of the bottom of the reel
Answer: Mine came right handed
Answer: Mines right handed
Answer: Look closer at the pictures...they're upside down !!! (although, it's still a lefty)
Q:
154lbs Max drag? I’m pretty sure that’s impossible.
Answer: Yes, that’s impossible. It’s 15.4lbs.
Answer: It’s 15.4 not 154
Q:
can you use this for catching muskie and throwing big baits
Answer: Yes, it handles swimbaits up to 6oz so far. Great casting distance and great drag. I don't have musky in Oklahoma but I imagine it would handle them fine. This is a saltwater rated reel. Tight lines!
Answer: I’ve fought little yellow tails here just outside of Long Beach. Great reel
Q:
Why is the reel upside down in the picture... Nice job Daiwa
Answer: This reel he’s been flipped upside down. This reel has the handle on the right side for right hand retrieving.
Answer: Is it Daiwa or Amazons fault? I have one of these, it’s the best saltwater bass reel I’ve ever had!
Q:
How much does this reel weigh?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: It's not very heavy, but it sucks. I wasted my money on this reel. Used it twice in the salt and it's already noisy. I clean and lube my reels after every use. I wish I wouldn't have wasted my money. Buy the new Shimano chronarch mgl. By the way all that garbage about casting far. Well, is the shortest casting reel I own out of over 20.
Answer: Not sure don't have a scale to weigh it but I is a decent reel
Answer: 8.1 OZ
Answer: 8.1 ounces.
Q:
Why does it say max drag is 154 pounds in the description?
Answer: Hello, Thanks for your inquiry. This appears to be a typo, this reel has 15.4 pounds of drag. Thanks for your interest & have a great day!
Answer: That is a typo, this reel has 15.4 pounds of drag.
Answer: It should say 15.4(fifteen point four) pounds.
Q:
Will this work for fresh water bass and pike
Answer: Yes. I use it for striped bass and sea trout. Great reel.
Answer: Yes it should work fine I use it for Calico Bass and Sand Bass fishing out of Oceanside CA
Answer: Of Course. Love it
Q:
Product description is a bit lame at best, no specs posted for line capacity. Typo too, 154lbs of drag!? Nope 15.4 Lame!
Answer: This is a high quality Daiwa product, line capacity is 125 yards of 17 lb test mono and 15 lbs drag. Great reel for swimbaits or light saltwater. I own one now and I am very impressed.
Answer: 12 lb...(0.32mm)....195 yds
Q:
How does this reel hold up against light lures? Planning to use between 1/8th and 1/2oz jigs mainly.
Answer: You are good to go.
Q:
I want a left handed
Answer: Hello
Product reviews of Daiwa Coastal TW Casting Reel
Amazon Customer : Five Stars
excellent service, awesome reel
Scott : Save your money and buy another reel.
Not really worth the price, seems cheaply built, had to clean and grease before first use.
Kenny B. : Best bang for the money!
Love this reel! Casting is far smoother than my Abu Revos and cast even farther with less effort. Wanted a saltwater baitcaster for fishing in the bay for halibut, but I’m gonna get more coastal Tws reels for bass fishing!
Dom : Dope reel
Awesome reel! The blue looks sick.
Alex R. : Love this reel!
What a great reel! Handles very well and has some amazing drag. Took it fishing for the first time and it was a joy to cast.
Very light weight, great tension control and again, drag is incredible for this size reel.
Great value overall.
Edward : Bad bearing
Would've been a 5 star review. Reason is when I had fish on the line reeling it in, it stopped retrieving as if the gears jammed causing the fish ( striper ) still in water had to retrieve by hand to land. And now it has a bad bearing on the spool adjustment side plate same side as the reel handle. Don't know if that caused it.
Jack Heath : Amazing quality from Daiwa
Amazing quality from Daiwa. Reel has an excellent drag and holds plenty of line for some of the bigger inshore fish like Jack Crevalle, Tarpon, and bull Redfish.
Tony sun : Not good reel
I need a new reel my bearing not good
Jose A. Garza : Make sure the crank is on the side you need it to be before you purchase
I love this baitcaster. Very smooth casting. It is a little expensive but worth the money I say especially that it'll hold up in saltwater. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was the description read right handed. I thought the crank would be on the left for right handers and maybe I didn't read it correctly. I have to cast with my right, then switch rod to my left hand to crank it with my right. Maybe I'll buy a second one with the crank on the left lol. S happens.. other than that, I love it!
Lance L. : Five Stars
Great saltwater reel. Smooth and long casts. Best reel I have owned for saltwater.
Michael Bowman : Cast-Ability!!!!!!!!! Minimal Bird's Nests??????
Sweet, smooth reel.
Jacob de leon : Worth every penny
Wow what reel...One of the best reels i have
Wilson Lin : Very Good Reel
I got my from Bass Pro shop at late 2018 to replace old ABU revo SX which I used for years. Very smooth reel for long distant casting. I use it for flounder fishing several time this spring. Even under headwind situation, it never makes me disappointment.
Family : Lefty’s
Nice for lefty’s
Ryan smith : T Wing & Magforce = GameChanger
This is the best casting reel I have ever used. It is basically the same exact reel as far as gears, and internal parts as the Tatula 200. The only difference is the coating or finish of the reel and different handle. I think Diawa misrepresents the line capacity on their reels but all in all great reels with the TWing and Magforce breaking system. Casts light baits really far. The only thing I wish was different is the gear size. This is supposed to be a saltwater reel and the gears are the same size as the Tatula 200. I wish the gears were thicker or beefier with another drag disc. This is just nit picking though it’s a phenomenal reel
Rob west : Good stuff!
Great real use for large swim and crank baits.
Wilson Lin : Very Good Reel

You can call me Sir : It's Hard to Find a Good Saltwater Baitcaster
I fish from shore, and this baitcaster does the job. I have fished this reel 15+ times in chest deep water with 3ft waves. I sure did get hit with a few plus sized waves that put my reel under water (don't tell anyone). I have opened and inspected this reel before writing a review. What I found as a very slightly wet looking surface, which wasn't salt water (weird I know). It is possible that when I rinse the reel after every use, fresh water gets in there, though I dump water on the reel with a cup and do not allow actual faucet pressure to hit the reel, which could push debris into the reel housing. I also found the gears to be a little under greased. No joke, other than adding some grease and oil I found nothing noteworthy. No sand, no saltwater, no rusting. THRILLED WITH THIS PURCHASE!
Family : Lefty’s
Nice for lefty’s
Phil : Great reels and a good buy
Diawa baitcasters have been my go to reels since I bought my procaster back in the late 80‘s. Which by the way I still have and can now designate for freshwater only. I find their magnetic brakeing system to be the easiest to use and Diawa’s overall quality excellent.
Phil : Great reels and a good buy

prodiver : Amazing reel even when compared to many different brands of baitcasters.
There are many reasons why I bought this reel. The ability to handle freshwater and saltwater are a huge plus, along with the T wing system. This reel far exceeded my expectations.
I originally purchased a Shimano Curdao, as I am a die hard Shimano fan. The Curado was defective straight out of the box, so in frustration, I decided to try different brands of reels. I purchased a Revo STX, Diawa Coastal, and a Kast King. I can honestly say that this reel is my favorite out of all of those reels. Once it is dialed in, I do not experience any backlash or issues with casting distance. It just feels right cast after cast and I find myself using this as my main reel. Out of all of the reels that I have purchased, I would buy this one again before any of the others. I just recently purchased a Diawa Zillion SV TW which is considerably more expensive than the Coastal and I still find that the Coastal is still my favorite from casting to retrieve.
RCRVNV : REALLY LIKE IT, used it on the capemay reef
REALLY LIKE IT,used it on the capemay reef, s11.allmost holds 200 yrds of 30 lb brade.very smooth. Salt water reel nice and light.
Daniel : Excelente
Excelente hasta para arreglos ligeros lastima solo hay una relación me gustaría uno más lento
John in FL : At last a salt tolerant left hand casting reel.
I have neen searching for a long time for a salt tolerant left hand retrieve casting reel. They are virtually non existent. This one is beautiful. Casts really smooth with great distance. Very pleased. Thank you Diawa.
Tricia T. : Backlash king!!!!!
I can see why this was a returned item. I bought it at a cheaper price because it was called “reconditioned”
It was impossible to adjust The breaking to find a happy medium between being able to cast and a backlash. Returned right away
William Lau : Great big fish reel
Great reel for salmon and steelhead and bigger fish. Larger capacity and heavier drag. No backlash either
Sara Murphy : Five Stars
One of my husband's favorite lures. It doesn't easily snag, so he uses it often.
Amazon Customer : Four Stars
Just lined her up. Cant wait to try her out
Rob west : Good stuff!
Great real use for large swim and crank baits.
Craig Pennington : One smooth ass reel
One smooth ass reel
Lanny Chisholm : Five Stars
Absolutely love it, buying another one
Amazon Customer : Quality product
This is my first bait casting reel so I have nothing to compare it to but I'm sure its making the learning process easier.
FormerMarine : Very smooth reel!
One of the smoothest reels I’ve ever used. I love the brake system which allows for very long casts.
Family : Lefty’s
Nice for lefty’s
Amazon Customer : Love Diawa but this one is a flop
I hate to write a bad review about a Diawa product, but unfortunately this one let me down. The reel only lasted 3 trips on the kayak before the line guide failed and would not move rendering the reel useless. I liked how the line guide flipped down on this reel when clicked into free spool to prevent birds nesting, however that feature seemed to be too much for the reel. I have multiple Lexa's from Diawa and they have been bullet proof. I got this Costal to throw smaller swimbaits, however it did not have the quality of other Diawa products I own. I always rinsed and serviced the reel it was never dropped or abused. I sent it in for repairs still under warranty obviously as it failed very quickly after purchase. But Diawa said it would be a month till they were able too even look at the reel and see if they would honor the repair, guess a lot of people must be sending their TWS Coastals in.
I had to edit this review down to a 1star a first for me. Diawa said they would not honor the fix under warranty...this is the last DIAWA product I will ever buy. Save your money go with schimano.
Dusty Japp : Horrible
If I cast hard it makes a noise like an animal scream.
HeatSeeker : Superb
Great reel. Beats my Shimano Curado hands down.
JoshH : I like the TWS on Daiwa reels
I like the TWS on Daiwa reels, really enjoy the handle that comes on the Coastal reel. Can’t go wrong with a Daiwa reel.
Road Hard : I like it
Great reel, easy to cast and smooth as glass.
barry jones : Five Stars
GOOD Casting well made reel A+ on the over size crank, will get a second
Tony sun : Not good reel
I need a new reel my bearing not good
Kenny B. : Best bang for the money!
Love this reel! Casting is far smoother than my Abu Revos and cast even farther with less effort. Wanted a saltwater baitcaster for fishing in the bay for halibut, but I’m gonna get more coastal Tws reels for bass fishing!
